Review: ‘Constantine’ #1

An exciting new chapter, Constantine #1 begins a new supernatural adventure for the occult con artist. Not too hard to follow, this new series doesn’t start off where the “Hellblazer” run ended. The chain-smoking British anti-hero has set his sights on New York City, where he can continue playing his particular brand of black magic and crooked deals. READ MORE

[Editorial] Who Will Constantine Be In The DCU?

With the release of the new Constantine series tomorrow, this the perfect opportunity to look back at how it all started. Introduced in “The Saga of The Swamp Thing” #39, Alan Moore presented readers with John Constantine, the foul-mouthed, chain-smoking British occult detective. Since then, Constantine has had a long journey dealing with the dark arts, magic, and sorcery. With the concluding issue of “Hellblazer”, Johnny boy is about to enter a new chapter in his life in the DC Universe. So, who will the infamous Constantine be this time around? READ MORE

Review: ‘Green Arrow’ #18

Last month, writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino were tasked with trying to mold Green Arrow into something worth the paper it was printed on. To say that the book has been sub-par since the New 52 re-launch is an understatement, as its been plagued with countless creative changes and was a shining example of a book that wasn’t working.

For their first issue, Lemire and Sorrentino simply swept everything that had come before under the rug and started the book with a clean slate. The first issue showed a lot of promise and gave reader’s hope that something could be done to help bail out the sinking ship that “Green Arrow” had become. Now with issue #18 we’re starting to get ease into the deep end of the run where Lemire and Sorrentino will either sink or swim on the strength of their work. READ MORE

The DC Comics: New 52 panel was jam packed with creators including David Finch, Scott Snyder, Jeff Lemire, James Tynion, Ray Fawkes, Ethan Van Sciver, Gail Simone, Matt Kindt, and James Robinson. They dove into the books quickly, chatting about all things in the New 52. The biggest news to come is that Ray Fawkes will be penning a brand new series starring the mysterious Pandora, who has been appearing throughout the DCU since the relaunch.

Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes also spoke at length about the new Constantine and what his story will be about in New York City. For you Batman hounds, Gail Simone is bringing The Ventriloquist back into Gotham in “Batgirl”. For a whole load of other details coming up at DC, head inside. READ MORE

So Long, ‘Sweet Tooth’

When Jeff Lemire’s Sweet Tooth first started in 2009 from Vertigo Comics, it was easy to draw parallels between it and titles like “The Walking Dead” and “Y: The Last Man”. It offered another post-apocalyptic settings with a strong character driven narrative. But once Lemire established his premise, it was clear he was telling a different type of end-of-the-world story. After setting up the desolate American landscape and exposing the central characters, “Sweet Tooth” became more than a story of survival and morality. It transformed into a bona fide mystery laced with themes of family, loss, and fatherhood. “Sweet Tooth” comes to an end on January 9th with issue #40, and it marks the end of one of the most charmingly original series of the past decade. What’s Jeff Lemire Cooking Up Now?

Over the past few days Jeff Lemire has been tweeting various classic comics without any further word. Could he be slyly telling us, he’s working on a new series? He tweeted pictures of “Red Tornado”, “Kamandi”, “Jemm Son Of Saturn”, and “Spectre” (I’d probably die if he wrote a “Spectre” book). Or perhaps he’s planning to bring some of them into “Justice League Dark” or “Green Arrow”? Hopefully we’ll here some news soon. READ MORE

[BEST & WORST '12] George Shunick’s List of the Best Comics 2012!

So, I’m ashamed to say 2012 was not a terribly adventurous year for me when it comes to comics. For better or worse, I ended up sticking with relatively mainstream comics. That said, there were a number of excellent offerings from both DC and Marvel, and these comics are absolutely capable of competing with more creator-friendly work, as long as they’re in the right hands. At any rate, there was some serious competition this year for the number one spot, but ultimately there can only be one! Curious to find out if what you’ve been reading is the epitome of the medium or crap not worth even a momentary glance? Read on, and see for yourself… READ MORE

Valiant Reveals Jeff Lemire Variant Cover For ‘Harbinger’ #8

We’ve been very vocal about our love of Jeff Lemiere’s work. His run on “Animal man” is one of the best things to come out of the DC New 52, he’s killing it on “Justice League Dark”, and his new OGN, “The Underwater Welder”, will be remembered as one of the most critically acclaimed graphic novels of the year.

The folks over at Valiant Comics have been putting out loads of new books since their re-launch earlier this year. Leading the pack is writer Joshua Dysart and artist Khari Evans with their work on “Harbinger”. Every month the creative team have been knocking this book out of the park.

How are these two topics related? It’s really just a match made in heaven, as Valiant recruited Jeff Lemiere to create a variant cover for “Harbinger” #8. Check it below. READ MORE

Review: Jeff Lemire’s ‘The Underwater Welder’

Jeff Lemire has made the transition from critical darling on the independent scene to one of the top writers leading the pack of DC’s New 52. Very few writers can make that transition from the Indie world to mainstream superheroes, but Lemire consistently turns out top notch writing, “Animal Man” and “Justice League Dark” being two of the best things DC is publishing today.

Despite having some of the biggest success of his comic book career at DC Comics, Lemire has remained committed to producing creator owned work. Lemire continues to write and draw “Sweet Tooth”, his long running Vertigo series, as it builds towards its epic conclusion in the coming months. Recently Lemire brought Matt Kindt on board for a three issue stint on “Sweet Tooth” to handle the art duties while he concentrated on finishing his new original graphic novel The Underwater Welder. “The Underwater Welder” is perhaps Lemire’s best work to date with stunning artwork and masterful storytelling. I smell awards coming his way. READ MORE

[Random Cool] The Artwork Of Jeff Lemire

Jeff Lemire is one of the hottest young talents at DC Comics right now, with his incredible work on titles such as “Animal Man”, “Justice League Dark”, and “Frankenstein”. Although he’s a forerunner in the superhero genre, he’s received much praise for his more dramatic works such as “Essex County”, “The Nobody”, and his Vertigo ongoing series, “Sweet Tooth”. Lemire is known for his deeply character driven stories, and his instantly recognizable, uniquely sketchy art style. Lemire is a busy man over at DC Comics, but he somehow finds the time to frequent comic cons, and as a result he’s up built a portfolio of incredible charter sketches. We’ve put together a small collection of Lemire’s illustrations, showcasing horror comic book icons. READ MORE
