Another “The Walking Dead Theme Goes Metal” Video For You

Apparently there is something about Bear McCreary’s theme for The Walking Dead that brings out the metal in people. Below is YouTube user Bryce Goertzen‘s rockin’ cover of the now infamous theme. Give it a watch and lemme know what you think!

Personally, I think it’s a bit too shredtastic and in-your-face but I’ll give the guy a few things: 1) Those are some seriously practiced guitar faces/poses. I think he’s got one of those ballet studio mirrors that spans a whole wall in his room just so he can see how metal he looks. 2) Anyone that has a Jeff Loomis Schecter guitar is okay in my book. I’ve always wanted one of those guitars but that could be because I think it’ll magically transform me into a songwriter of Nevermore caliber. Delusions of grandeur, I know, but one can hope. Prong’s Tommy Victor Gets Schecter Signature Guitar

Tommy Victor, axe-master and vocalist for metal band Prong, has officially announced that he has teamed up with Schecter Guitars for a signature guitar. He will be showing it off at NAMM on Saturday, Jan. 26th alongside Exodus, Jeff Loomis, and Chris Poland.

Victor comments, “I am so happy to finally have my own signature model being released! And to have it done through Schecter is an honor and a highlight in my career. We put our minds together to design an intense model that we know guitar players and collectors of all sorts are going to appreciate. I’m personally impressed with the outcome. It’s amazing!

“To help celebrate Schecter’s dominance in new designs and innovation and quality all around, along with the release of the Tommy Victor signature model, PRONG will be supporting Exodus at the Schecter NAMM Party Saturday Jan 26th at the Grove in Anaheim. Also performing is my old friend Chris Poland and his band Ohm, and one of the world’s top shredders Jeff Loomis. The incredible Gary Holt with the rest of us will be doing a signing at the new upstairs Schecter booth at NAMM (which will have my new model on display) Friday Jan. 25 at 1pm. See you at NAMM!”

Ex-Nevermore Guitarist Jeff Loomis Unveils New Song “A Liar’s Chain”

Jeff Loomis (who is easily one of my favorite guitarists playing today) has put out a stream of a new song entitled “A Liar’s Chain”. The song was recorded with his current touring line up of Joe Nurre (guitar and vocals), Anup Sastry (drums) and Greg Macklin (bass). You can check out the song below.

Loomis writes, “A Liar’s Chain is the first of three songs that I recorded with my band to officially debut online. We started playing it live on our last US run and it seemed to go over really well with fans. I had so much fun recording ‘Surrender’ with Ihsahn on vocals for my last solo album that I wanted to do more songs like that. Joe Nurre, who has been playing guitar in my band for the last year or so, has a pretty killer death metal voice, so I thought it would be perfect to do some more stuff like this with him as well as the rest of the guys.

I’m really looking forward to getting over to Europe again. I have so much fun there. The Euroblast tour and festival has some amazing musicians on it, which is going to be really special for me as well, as I love watching and hearing great bands play. We’re going to be playing ‘A Liar’s Chain’ as well as one other new song with Joe singing. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Jeff Loomis will be touring Europe on the Euroblast 2012 tour with labelmates Monuments, Vidhjarta, and Stealing Axion. Check below for the tour dates. READ MORE

The New Monuments Video For “97% Static” Must Have Been Directed By J.J. Abrams

The latest video for “97% Static” from Monuments looks like it was directed by J.J. Abrams. Know why? Lens flares EVERYWHERE! And if lens flares everywhere wasn’t enough, they also added in a kaleidoscope effect to ensure that you got multiple lens flares throughout. The end result? I’m blind. Check out the video below for a dazzling array of light stripes.

“97% Static” comes from Monuments latest album Gnosis (Amazon), which comes out in the US this Tuesday. The band will be touring Europe with Jeff Loomis, Vildhjarta, and Stealing Axion. Tour dates are also below. READ MORE

Album Review: I Declare War ‘Malevolence’

‘Malevolence’, the third full length release by Seattle, Washington Tech-Death metal band I Declare War, is a solid release with 11-tracks of blistering, down-tuned heaviness. The lyrics are just as in-your-face as the music (should you be able to understand them) and if you’re feeling particularly pissed-off at the government, religion, etc…, this may just be the album you need to get some of that aggression out.
