Bone Tomahawk

The brutally violent, character-driven “Bone Tomahawk” follows a sheriff (Russell), a gunslinger, a befuddled oldster (Jenkins) and a cowboy (Sarsgaard) as they attempt to rescue a group of captives (including Carpenter) from a band of cannibalistic troglodytes.

Where The Devil Hides

There’s a prophecy in the small village of New Bethlehem that on the eve of every girl’s 18th birthday, the devil might inhabit her soul. Now as that day approaches, six girls, all born on the sixth day of the sixth month begin to mysteriously disappear one by one. Could this be the hands of a crazed serial killer, a village elder or the horrific prophecy come true…the work of the devil?

[TV] 3 Minutes Of New Footage In Trailer For Season 8 Of “Dexter”

We’ve got a new full length trailer for Season 8 of Showtime’s “Dexter” that quickly catches us up on the events of the previous seasons before launching in to some new footage. As disappointed as I’ve been in the show recently, I might as well check out this new stretch seeing as its the final one.

“Dexter” returns June 30 to Showtime (including Yvonne Strahovski reprising her role on the show) followed by the premiere of “Ray Donovan.”

[Blu-ray Review] ‘Dexter: The Seventh Season’ Blu-ray at Least Looks and Sounds Great

Reviewed by Patrick Cooper

Since the Trinity Killer arc wrapped up in season 4, Dexter has gotten progressively worse. Before the announcement of the 8th being the final season, it seemed like the show’s goal was to just stay on the air as long as possible, rather than tell the best story possible. Aside from the gruesome Doomsday Killer story, which was at least bonkers enough to be slightly entertaining, there hasn’t been that much interesting stuff going on. READ MORE

[TV] “Dexter” Spot Introduces A New Adversary, The Psychopath Whisperer

We have a new TV Spot from Season 8 of Showtime’s “Dexter” (well it’s 35 seconds of “Dexter” and 10 seconds of “Ray Donovan”) that introduces Dr. Evelyn Vogel (played by Charlotte Rampling) aka “The Psychopath Whisperer.” We also get some new footage from the season, including what looks to ba a few more violent acts on the part of Deb.

[TV] New “Dexter” TV Spots, Is Killing In Deb’s Blood?

We have a couple of new TV Spots from Season 8 of Showtime’s “Dexter” and these are actually my favorite yet. Actually the second one is more of the same, with Michael C. Hall lamenting that his mask has been slipping etc… but the first one is an interesting look at Jennifer Carpenter’s nature, Is Deb actually a killer or a victim of circumstance?

[TV] Julian Sands To Probably Be Bad Guy Who Dies In Season 8 Of “Dexter”

Season 8 of Showtime’s “Dexter” (aka The Final Season) has just cast Julian Sands (The Killing Fields, Warlock) as “Miles Foster, a wealthy international businessman“, according to TVLine. Let’s face it, he’ll be playing a bad guy and Dexter will kill him. Not a spoiler, just a guess based on the character description and predictability of the show.

UNLESS, all bets are off. It is the Final Season after all, so maybe they break the mold. Maybe he’s in town to offer Dexter some sort of inheritance.

[TV] Jazzy Video Compilation Of Old “Dexter” Kills

With Season 8 of Showtime’s “Dexter” just around the corner, Showtime has put together a jazzy compilation of the show’s old kills. It’s actually striking to see the Michael C. Hall serial killer back in 2006. Keep in mind, this isn’t every kill, more like a greatest hits.

[TV] UPDATE: New Teaser For Season 8 Shows “Dexter” Back To His Old Ways

Update: We’ve added an even newer teaser that adds a few flickers of new footage to what amounts to a “Dexter” and “Donovan” combo spot. Not a bad way for a network to utilize 45 seconds, but not as interesting as the earlier spot.

We have a new TV Spot from Season 8 of Showtime’s “Dexter,” that shows Michael C. Hall back to his “vetting, stalking, killing” pattern (is it me or does this show need less of that pattern these days) and Jennifer Carpenter feeling more than a little guilty.

[TV] Could “Dexter” Spinoff Into “Deb”?!

Season 8 of Showtime’s “Dexter” will now most certainly be its last. But could characters from the show be spun-off into their own program? Showtime President David Nevins recently spoke to THR about the end of the show and he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a spin-off.

Now, before you cry “SPOILER” please know that this is only a rumor. No one has confirmed that anyone will live or die past the end of this season. The only reason Jennifer Carpenter’s Deb would be rumored for such a show is because… well, you’re not gonna make a show about about Quinn or Batista are you?

THR asked about a Deb-related spinoff, to which Nevins replied, “This is a core franchise to us and all options are on the table as to where it could go after this. There’s nothing actively happening but you never know what the future holds. We need to get through this season and see how the dust settles and then see where we go from there. I won’t rule it out but I’m not actively planning anything.

[TV] “Dexter” Officially Ending At Season 8! Extended Clip!

We have a new clip from Season 8 of Showtime’s “Dexter,” that confirms two things. 1. This is indeed the final season, as teased by the opening graphic. 2. Deb and Dex aren’t exactly getting along following the death of LaGuerta in the final moments of Season 7.

As for the show ending, PHEW! Maybe now they can go into overdrive and make a really compelling ending, they were all out of “Act 2″ stuff as far as I’m concerned. Here’s hoping they go out with a bang!

Nowhere To Hide In ‘Where The Devil Hides’ Poster

We’ve now got a high-rez teaser poster for the oft-retitled Where The Devil Hides (first it was The Occult, then The Devil’s Rapture). I like the sparseness of it, somehow it evokes The Omen for me.

The Christian Christiansen-directed pic will be released by LD Entertainment, who brought you The Collection. No word on a date yet. The film stars Rufus Sewell, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colm Meaney and “Dexter’s” Jennifer Carpenter.

There’s a prophecy in the small village of New Bethlehem that on the eve of every girl’s 18th birthday, the devil might inhabit her soul. Third Title’s The Charm For ‘Where The Devil Hides’

First it was The Occult. Then it was The Devil’s Rapture. Now the film starring Rufus Sewell, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colm Meaney and “Dexter’s” Jennifer Carpenter, has been retitled again to Where The Devil Hides.

The Christian Christiansen-directed pic is now slated for release on October 11, 2013 from LD Entertainment, who brought you The Collection.

Something very strange happened in the small village of New Bethlehem, a devout community kept under the tight reins of the town’s vigilant Elders. Six girls born on the same day to different mothers. Perhaps a coincidence or as most believe a chilling omen of something yet to come. Now, on the eve of their 18th birthday, the young women are mysteriously disappearing one by one and feared dead. Terror has overtaken this quiet community. Could this be the work of a serial killer, one of the village elders or a horrific prophecy come true, born of the supernatural, The Occult?

Yvonne Strahovski

[TV] Yvonne Strahovski Returning To “Dexter” For Season 8

The 8th Season of “Dexter” will premiere on Sunday, June 30th, and while I await word – final confirmation -double final confirmation that this upcoming season will be its’ last, we do have some news that’s sure to please fans of Yvonne Strahovski. That’s right, she’s reprising her role as serial killer Hannah in the show.

Per EW, “The actress is set to reprise her role in a multi-episode arc this summer as Hannah McKay, the gorgeous killer florist. Last season, the Hannah became Dexter’s twisted love interest and a major thorn in his side. When we last saw her in the seventh season finale, Hannah had escaped from prison, and Dex was seemingly lucky to get away from her.

I think Strahovski is great, but she’s not enough to bring me back. READ MORE

[TV] New “Dexter” Promo Has Me Wondering “Why Bother?”

The 8th Season of “Dexter” will premiere on Sunday, June 30th. Today Showtime issued a new promo entitled “The Full Picture” – and I made it about 5 seconds in. I love Michael C. Hall (and I used to even like this show), but I just can’t do it anymore. The endless pontificating, I just want Dexter to shut up. Let me know when the last 3 episodes are on so I can watch him and Deb go down in flames. At least that would be something different.

[TV] Les Moonves’ Offhand Comments About “Dexter” Convince Some That Season 8 Is The End

The 8th Season of “Dexter” will premiere on Sunday, June 30th. And while there has always been speculation – even strong wording – that this season will be its last, it’s never been confirmed. Today a few people are taking recent comments by CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves without the grain of salt normally called for in these situations. See, Moonves told some analyst who asked about Showtime’s slate, ““We have Ray Donovan coming on with Liev Schreiber, which comes on with Dexter’s last season starting in June and then we have Masters of Sex.” Nevermind that this is a totally offhand comment made on the fly in the form of one sentence that somehow addresses three shows.

Also nevermind the fact that the plan all along has been to see how Season 8 performs in the ratings first. What’s interesting is that at least one of the sites who picked up this story from The Hollywood Reporter actually included the following sentence in the body of their article, “A spokesperson for the network told The Hollywood Reporter late Monday that there was “nothing confirmed” about if the series could and would continue beyond season eight.

I only point this out to clarify to you guys – nothing actually seems to be decided yet. Any articles you’re reading that have something to the effect of “Showtime Confirms Season 8 As The Last” as the headline actually include an official statement made after that which negates the whole point of the article.

The Factory

An obsessed cop is on the trail of a serial killer prowling the streets of Buffalo, N.Y. but when his teenage daughter disappears, he drops any professional restraint to get the killer.

[BD Review] ‘The Factory’ is Flawed but Worth a Watch

The Factory was filmed in 2008 and is finally being released on DVD this week. Since it has been five years since filming completed, and the release was delayed since 2011, there has to be obvious reasons why. Upon initial assessment, it’s simple: the set up of The Factory is solid, but the execution is somewhat flawed…until the ending. READ MORE

[TV] Slow Down Buddy! There’s A “Dexter” Season 8 Promo Already?

The 8th Season of “Dexter” will premiere on Sunday, June 30th. That’s a full three months earlier than last year’s premiere (Season 7 premiered at the end of September) and now we’ve got a teaser that touts your abbreviated wait time. I should note that there is absolutely no new footage in this teaser and for 1 second it makes you think that Liev Schreiber has joined the program.

Just a reminder that I’m starting to personally doubt this will be the last season. The show is still performing well in the ratings and even Showtime President David Nevins is hedging his bets by saying stuff like, “[Season 8] is the likely endpoint, but I’m leaving open the possibility that plans could change [...] I think there’s a very clear trajectory now of where they’re going. I think it’s going to help to write with that endgame in mind. I’ve been pushing to shake up the formula a little bit. I think there should be fundamentally different dynamics now.” and “ “Dexter” for Showtime is what Batman is to Warner Bros., it is a cornerstone franchise.

[TV] The Hunt Is Already On For New “Dexter” Blood!

With Season 7 of “Dexter” recently wrapped, the hunt is on fore new cast members to join the show for its 8th (and hopefully last) season. I’m with Mr. Disgusting on the fact that we just need to send Deb and Dex on a Bonnie and Clyde rampage and be done with it.

Per TV Line, “The Showtime thriller will introduce two major recurring characters in its upcoming eighth season… First up is Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a formidable and whip smart neuro-psychiatrist in her late 50s who assists the law in profiling criminals (like, perhaps, the one who murdered LaGuerta?). The show is also on the hunt for a 40ish actor to play Jacob Elroy, a handsome and straightforward former cop who now owns his own private eye business. Our guess: Angel (or maybe Tom?) hires him to find out who killed his ex-wife.

Not a lot to go on there, but if you’re a “Dexter” completist hopefully this helps you achieve happiness!

[TV] Let’s All Gather Together And Hope That “Dexter” Season 9 Never Happens

I tried to keep up with this season of “Dexter”, but it lost me a few episodes in when it began to stray from what should have been its main focus – Deb and Dex figuring out how to be together in this crazy world of ours that hates incest and serial killers. I know a lot of you have enjoyed the season so I’m not here to rain on your parade, and I plan on checking out the season finale to see if the ending (which I spoiled myself on) is totally glorious or just kinda dumb.

One thing I will say is that what I saw of Season 7 was most certainly a step up from Season 6 (which I unfortunately watched in its entirety). The reason for the uptick in quality? The endgame was in sight. The show was (more or less) set to wrap up at the end of next year’s Season 8, which meant the writers could minimize their wheel-spinning somewhat and move the pieces on the board closer to where they need to be for their intended finale, the nature and circumstances of which they claim are set in stone. But now there’s the vague threat of a Season 9 – which would mean that Season 8 could very well become an entire 12 episode cycle of nothing interesting happening at all. Combine that with the heavily fatigued premise, and we might have the very worst season of the show ever on our hands (this is “Dexter”, so that’s saying something).

Showrunner Scott Buck told Vulture, “It might be the last. That hasn’t been announced yet. We’ve been picked up for one more season, but whether that is the last one or not has not yet been determined.” He goes on to say that they have planned Season 8 to be the final season, but all that will change if Showtime decides to pony up for another one (a real risk since this thing still pulls in good ratings). I liked the first couple seasons of “Dexter”, so I’m hoping they’re able to go out with a bang. Stretching it out another year could potentially kill any chance of that happening.
