Listen To An Unreleased 1968 Jimi Hendrix Track “Somewhere”

On March 5th, a new Jimi Hendrix album entitled People, Hell, And Angels, will be released. Featuring 12 never-before-heard tracks, the songs were during Hendrix’s “new and experimental” writing phase, music that he wanted to stand apart from The Experience. The songs were supposed to appear on the Electric Ladyland follow up First Rays Of The New Rising Sun. The album is produced by Eddie Kramer, who has worked on several Hendrix releases and helped build Electric Lady Studios.

Now, a new track entitled “Somewhere” is available for streaming. You can hear it below. READ MORE

[Random Cool] Can You Guess All The Guitarists?

Artist Maxim Dalton painted a poster of 35 of the greatest guitar players ever. While it doesn’t include some famous axe wielders (I don’t see Dimebag Darrell on there), it is a pretty comprehensive painting of guitarists who have shaped and influenced their genres. The painting was released as a limited edition poster but sold out long ago.

But what I want to know is can you identify them all! So head on below to test yourself on your guitar player knowledge! READ MORE

New Jimi Hendrix Album To Be Released Next Year

According to Rolling Stone, a new album from famed guitarist Jimi Hendrix, who passed away in 1970, will be coming out on March 5th, 2013. Entitled People, Hell, And Angels, the 12-track collection features completely unreleased tracks during Jimi’s “new and experimental” writings apart from The Experience. Hendrix apparently decided to go into new directions, toying with horns, keyboards, and percussion as well as layering guitars with a second track. Supposedly, these tracks were supposed to be included on the double album follow up to Electric Ladyland, First Rays Of The New Rising Sun. You can check out the cover art below.

I’ll fully admit that I was never that into Hendrix. I will never say that his work didn’t influence the very shape of modern music but it’s just not something I really got into. However, I’m feeling a stirring that I need to give it another shot. Maybe a few years will make all the difference? READ MORE

Anthrax Discusses ‘Among The Living’ With Google Play

Anthrax caught up with Google Play to put together an audiobiography telling the story of their 1986 Gold-certified album Among The Living. Guitarist Scott Ian and singer Joey Belladonna went over the history of the album, from the recording process with famed producer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix) to mixing in the Bahamas and the sold-out tour that followed the release. It’s a pretty damn cool interview and well worth checking out here.

Among The Living came out during what might be considered the best year in thrash metal history. Metallica‘s Master Of Puppets, Slayer‘s Reign In Blood, and Megadeth‘s Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying were all released that year.

Anthrax will be hitting the road to co-headline the third leg of the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel tour. All dates can be seen below. READ MORE

Album Review: Dir En Grey ‘Dum Spiro Spero’

With their eighth studio album, Dum Spiro Spero, Dir en grey are preparing to hit the music world like never before. Word is that there will be a massive American blitz to introduce those who were unlucky enough to never have heard of these guys before to the aural insanity that Dir en grey puts forth. Having seen these guys at the Family Values tour in 2006, I can safely say that they put on one of the most intense shows I’ve ever seen. But has that insanity held and intensity held strong through the years and made it onto Dum Spiro Spero? Find out after the jump!
