OMFG of the Day: Make Your Own ‘Super 8′ Videos, Two New Stills

I feel bad barraging you with Super 8 news, but I’m just so damn excited!

The latest offerings from Paramount Pictures are a pair of new hi-res stills from the J.J. Abrams-directed sci-fi genre pic that’s produced by Mr. Steven Spielberg. In addition, the studio has revealed a pretty rad iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch application: a full-featured video recorder that emulates a vintage Super 8 camera! OMFG anyone?

The app, which is distributed by Paramount Digital Entertainment and was created by app-development newcomer QMx Interactive and Bad Robot Interactive, allows users to create vintage movies on their Apple mobile devices. Super 8 comes with seven photorealistic lenses sporting such effects as infrared, chromatic and x-ray. Users can overlay additional filter effects – like light leaks and vignettes – and “age” their film with a random scratch-and-dirt filter. There’s even a frame-shake effect to top off the old-school feel of Super 8-made movies. A+

Super 8 arrives in theaters June 10.

Third ‘Super 8′ Clip, More To Come Tonight

Last night Fox premiered another new clip from J.J. Abrams’ Super 8, which is a continuation of the previously released snippets that can be seen after the break. Even better, they’re premiering the final one tonight at 8 PM, which means it’ll play sometime during American Idol.

“In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.”

Update: A Movie Within a Movie in First ‘Super 8′ Clip; New Clue!

Update #2: Second clip inside.

Update: A new clue has surfaced in one of the various TV spots. As displayed in the poster, the water tower is the focal point as a ball of light emanates from behind it. In the newer TV spots it’s implied that whatever “it” is can be found IN said water tower as it’s literally covered in metal from objects around the town (you can see all of the objects being pulled upwards in various spots).

Moviefone has premiered the first official clip from Paramount Pictures’ Super 8 that teams director J.J. Abrams with producers Steven Spielberg.

Valve Creates Interactive ‘Super 8′ Trailer As ‘Portal 2′ Extra

With legions of fans waiting to jump back into Chell’s spring heels and pick up an Aperture portal gun, Valve has delivered the goods once again with Portal 2, giving players the level design, puzzles and top-notch script they craved. But Valve went one step further, delivering an interactive trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 as an extra on the PC version. I couldn’t find it on my PS3 copy (… yet) so I’m not sure if it’s packed in with console ports or not (the PS3 version comes with a code for a PC/MAC download of the game through Steam for “cloud” integration for save files, so there’s that). The short “game” places you on a train as a passenger and allows you to witness the crash from the theatrical trailer. Kotaku posted a play-through with a commentary which you can check out beyond the break.

As part of their summer preview, Paramount Pictures has provided Bloody Disgusting with the first official still from Super 8, a Bad Robot/Amblin Entertainment Production that teams writer/director J.J. Abrams with the legendary Steven Spielberg.

Below you’ll find the first ever image featuring (from left to right) Elle Fanning as “Alice Dainard” and Joel Courtney as “Joe”. The poor kid in the background doesn’t get a credit. I’d also like to note that there’s “something” in the lens. Can anyone make out what it is?

Stunning ‘Super 8′ IMAX Trailer Shifts Tone

Shifting away from the “scary” elements of the teaser and Super Bowl TV Spot, the brand new IMAX trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 bleeds Steven Spielberg films such as Goonies, E.T. and War of the Worlds, focusing on the kids more than the apparent creature. Something interesting to note is the references to “magnetism,” which also kind of reminds me of Joe Dante’s classic The Explorers. I honestly believe we have have a “true” Amblin production on our hands…

Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills, AJ Michalka all star in the Paramount pic that begins “In the summer of 1979, when a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

The footage will be re-spooled on June 10th.

You Will See the Return of ‘Cloverfield’!

Thanks to B-D reader ‘Avery’ for the heads up on a new article over at Total Film who scored some massive news regarding the long-gestured Cloverfield sequel. Since the release back in 2008, Matt Reeves has been busy with Let Me In, while producer J.J. Abrams has been working furiously on Star Trek and Super 8. Getting the two in the same room focusing on a sequel hasn’t been an easy task, and both have repeatedly stated that they want to make sure they have a super cool new idea.

Finally there appears to be a breakthrough…

Well, you are going to see it – we just don’t know when,” laughs Reeves, officially acknowledging a sequel WILL happen for the first time ever.

Website Detectives Discover ‘Super 8′ Creature Origin?

We don’t give enough credit to the people who make viral discoveries (wink, wink), so without further adieu a big thumbs up to Latino Review who observed some interesting footage hiding within s8editingroom.com, the Super 8 viral site that’s been online for over a week now.

Doing some serious detective work, the site writes: “it’s not an alien, monster or creature.

It may be an energized living object similar to the 1997′s “Flubber” with Robin Williams. We’re not saying it is a rubber-like super-bouncy substance, but it is an object.

The evidence is prevalent in the hidden images, and trailer, that can be dissected over at Latino Review. Go check it out and then return here to comment. Did they stumble onto something?

Second ‘Super 8′ Trailer’s Soul Bleeds Steven Spielberg!

Update: Hidden within the trailer was a link to this newly unlocked website called “the editing” room that carries a slew of new cryptic images.

Paramount Pictures has launched the official Twitter page for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8. While they spent the morning blowing up my phone with unnecessary retweets (I wouldn’t recommend following them if my life depended on it), they did use the social networking platform to release the second full trailer for the sci-fi horror film.

The trailer screams ’80s Steven Spielberg (as it was produced by his Amblin company) and looks to once again carry some hidden clues. What do you see?

Just yesterday we were supplied with the following synopsis for the flick arriving in theaters June 10: “In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

I’m sincerely curious as to what you guys think so far. Am I the only one who is over-the-top excited?

‘Super 8′ Super Bowl TV Spot Pieces Fall Into Place!

We’ve spent weeks attempting to assemble the pieces of footage hiding within each updated Super Bowl TV Spot for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8. I guess, just like old NES games, the fun is the gameplay and not the conclusion.

The latest update to the trailer has revealed said imagery in full — no more connecting the three dots. Inside you’ll see exactly what was hiding within the frames of one of this summer’s biggest movies. Does any of it mean anything to you? Post your theories inside.

In theaters June 10, the Steven Spileberg/J.J. Abrams collaboration follows a bunch of kids in the ’70s who are shooting a zombie movie with a Super 8. When they develop the film, they notice that there’s an alien creature in the frame.

The images have 3 dots that help aid the connection of said pictures. Inside you’ll find every clue thus far, including the 5 new screen grabs.

OMFG of the Day: The Pieces Come Together in ‘Super 8′ Viral – UPDATED!

I have a feeling some of you guys are going to want to boycott Paramount’s Super 8 by the time it’s all said and done, but in all honesty this is some brilliant stuff. Over the past few months we here at Bloody Disgusting have been keeping a close eye on all virals surrounding the J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration. In fact, there’s so much stuff you haven’t seen that most of you would probably thank me for not stirring the pot (hidden maps, actual referenced locations, and hidden database files).

Yesterday we accidentally stumbled onto one of the coolest viral games ever initiated, and many loyal Super 8 followers have already (sorta) deciphered the code – yet they still missed a few beats (we’ll help you out). Per our report, Apple.com has been constantly changing the HD files for the Super Bowl TV Spot. What does this mean? Each trailer appears to be the same, but it’s completely different. Dates appear and vanish, images appear and vanish; this has been going on for 24 hours now. Inside you’ll find a collection of the puzzle pieces, but I’d like to make this important additional note: the pieces are connected by the three dots on each image, therefore some of these aren’t connected correctly.

Keep your eyes peeled (so will we) and feel free to e-mail us with any major discoveries that we’ve missed.

‘Super 8′ Creature, Date Appears…Before Vanishing!

It’s no secret that J.J. Abrams likes secrets, hence the reason why I originally panned frame by frame through the Super Bowl Super 8 trailer. I came across the date September/November/December 19, 1962 (on November 19 Fidel Castro accepts removal of Soviet weapons), while also dwelling on a frame that may or may not have been a reflection of the film’s alien creature.

Well, I decided to revisit the trailer on Apple only to discover that the Super Bowl spot has been replaced!!! The new trailer has the date, the billboard of “Lost” references, and what looks like the monster’s jaw all removed. Did we catch on quicker than they expected? Go watch the new trailer and see if you can’t find any fresh clues. Journey beyond the break to see all of the early freeze-framed stills. Paramount will release on June 10.

J.J. Abrams Finally Opens Up and Talks ‘Super 8′!

Ready for a third story featuring Paramount Pictures’ Super 8? No? What’s wrong with you (or maybe it’s just me?)

The LA Times caught up with director J.J. Abrams who finally gives us an idea of what we’ll see in theaters on June 10. This is the first time anyone involved has gone on record.

All we’ve heard, via Vulture, was that the Abrams/Steven Spielberg-Amblin collaboration is that it is said to follow a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera in the seventies or eighties – and when they develop the film they notice that there’s an alien creature in the frame. Want to know more? Sure you do! Read on for the skinny, and to re-watch the Super Bowl TV spot (again), because you know you love it.

Update: FULL Mind Blowing ‘Super 8′ Super Bowl TV Spot!

UPDATE: Watch the FULL TV Spot below featuring the first ever footage from ‘Super 8′!! Tell me it doesn’t look like classic Spielberg? Also, did anyone else see the date December 19, 1962 flash?

Excited for the Super Bowl? Some of you might actually care about the game, while the rest of America will chow down on chips, pizza, and wings just to watch three hours of commercials (and that’s a bit sad, don’t ya think?) Hours before kickoff, Bloody Disgusting already has a look at the “Superbowl TV Spot” for Paramount Pictures’ Super 8, the J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration that is said to follow a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera in the seventies or eighties – and when they develop the film they notice that there’s an alien creature in the frame.

So far all that we’ve seen is this teaser trailer (that carried quite a few viral images hidden in individual frames) and a few behind-the-scenes videos of tanks trolling through suburbia. I wonder if there’s anything hiding within this brief tease? June 10th where are you?!

Matt Reeves ‘Cloverfield 2′ Update: It May Never Happen

While fans of the first Cloverfield are understandably drooling for the day Cloverfield 2 finally makes its way to the big screen, in an interview with B-D reporter Chris Eggertsen earlier today director Matt Reeves (talking about the Feb. 1st DVD/Blu-ray release of Let Me In) claimed that producer J.J. Abrams, screenwriter Drew Goddard, and himself just haven’t had a chance to meet yet to hash out a story – and that if they don’t figure out something they’re all happy with once they do get together, the project could in fact never happen. In other words: the sequel isn’t dead, but it’s not exactly on the fast-track either.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any [news],” said Reeves. “We’re just…you know, somebody was saying to me that I had said something about, ‘well, we’re gonna try and get the band back together.’ And the band is still not back together, we’re just still talking about getting back together. But we haven’t really had a chance to talk about it. I mean, J.J. is eding ‘Super 8′ right now, he’s got a very, very intense schedule right now that he’s working on. And Drew [Goddard] is writing Steven Spielberg’s next movie, I think, after the Abraham Lincoln film. He’s doing ‘Robopocalypse’. So everybody’s very, very busy. But I’m sure we’ll get together one of these days and sort of bounce it around until we come up with something that we get excited about. And if we don’t, then we won’t make it.

We’ll keep you posted on any future news…hopefully they can find a way to make this one work.
