Guitarist John 5, who is working with Rob Zombie and played with Marilyn Manson, is the victim of a house burglary. John 5 comments, “Unfortunately our house was robbed today, we accidentally didn’t put the alarm on, so some assholes got lucky! Whoever did this will get caught hopefully one day!”

Guitarist/composer John 5 recently spoke about his work for the upcoming Rob Zombie film The Lords Of Salem, which hits theaters on Apr. 26th. John 5 also gave some information about the upcoming Zombie album Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor, which hits streets Apr. 23rd (pre-order here).
Talking about the film score, John 5 states, “This was a huge challenge for me. It was like 10 times the intensity of writing a record. It took months and months as the timing is key to each scene. The music was very challenging and sometimes there was no key signature or time signature for this music, which is all orchestral and acoustic with the exception of one death metal song. You had to be able to follow the story and create emotions for each scene with the music. I cannot wait for people to see and hear this movie. It is incredible!”
About the new Zombie album, 5 adds, “I can only describe this album as an aggressive, live-sounding and totally unique album. This album has a little bit for everybody. The guitar tones are not traditional. There is also an instrumental track called ‘The Theme For The Rat Regeneration Vendor’ which is all played aggressively with an electric sitar.”

I’m not the biggest fan of Boss pedals but I can’t deny that they are incredibly popular and are used by pretty much some of the biggest names in the music industry. And now Boss will be adding three more pedals to their already pretty damn extensive lineup. The three pedals, which will make their debut at NAMM 2013, are the TE-2 Tera Echo, the DA-2 Adaptive Distortion, and the MO-2 Multi-Overtone. Below are videos that feature Rob Zombie/ex-Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5 demonstrating their tones.
Actually, let me get an annoyance off my chest if you don’t mind. If a company is going to release a video promoting their new line of guitar FX pedals and want people to hear the sounds they are capable of, how about they DON’T let some wannabe dramatic voiceover guy talk the whole damn video? That too much to ask for? Sheesh… READ MORE

In a recent interview with The Daily Herald, Rob Zombie/ex-Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5 discussed his scoring process for the upcoming Rob Zombie-directed film The Lords Of Salem. One of the things John 5 mentioned was that he wanted to create a very memorable cue, stating, “I wanted the theme of this movie to be very simple, like “Jaws” or “Halloween”“. He continues on to say, “I always say, it’s music that people don’t want to listen to, because you’re watching the movie. It’s tough. It’s gotta be good enough, but it can’t distract you.”
Speaking about the sounds of the film, John 5 explains, “Rob would give me direction, like, ‘I want it to sound like this, or I want it to sound like that.’ It’s very primitive, not your everyday-sounding instruments. I would use a violin bow across an acoustic guitar or clank on things or use other odd musical instruments. Then, of course, you have your bassoons and french horns and everything under the sun for other parts of the score. It’s very unorthodox, if you will, but it really was a lot of fun. It was a lot of work and it was a big challenge. It turned out amazing, though. I’m very proud of it; that’s for sure.”
I’m a little torn by what 5 is saying. Wanting to create music that is both memorable yet something the audience won’t listen to just doesn’t click in my mind. Using his examples of Jaws and Halloween, I can safely say that I paid just as much attention to the music of those films as I did to the visuals. Then again, I love horror movie scores, so I might be in the minority of people that pay attention to the scores while watching a movie. READ MORE

“FRANKENSTEIN VS THE WITCHFINDER! Coming Soon to a theater near you! That is if you live in Salem, MA! This amazing lost classic starring Udo Kier, Clint Howard, Daniel Roebuck and Camille Keaton is being screening at the WIQZ Freak-Fest. Don’t miss it. One night only!” Zombie jokes.
