Legendary Pictures Goes Smaller With ‘Quarantine’ Filmmakers In ‘As Above, So Below’

John Dowdle and Drew Dowdle (The Poughkeepsie Tapes, Quarantine, Devil) will co-write As Above, So Below for Legendary Pictures in what amounts to that studio’s first “microbudget” film. John will direct the film and Drew will produce.

Per Variety, “No plot details were given but sources say it would follow two archaeologists in search of a lost treasure in the catacombs below Paris.

It’ll definitely be interesting to see what they come up with here and how Legendary plays in a smaller sandbox. The budget is pegged at between $5 and $10 million, which isn’t “micro” at all. It’s just not “big.”

‘Quarantine,’ ‘Devil’ Directors Overthrow ‘The Coup’

We got exclusive word that John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle – the duo behind The Poughkeepsie Tapes, the REC redo, Quarantine, and M. Night Shyamalan’s Devil – are finally getting their overseas thriller The Coup off the ground (first mentioned back in July 2008). Bloody Disgusting learned that Lionsgate is producing the pic that will center on an American family that moves to Cambodia for work just as a rebel mob takes over and starts killing all Americans. The Dowdle brothers will both be directing the thriller from a screenplay penned by John. No word on when shooting gets underway, but word has it Lionsgate is working quickly.
