2012 has been a snoozer of a year for horror for the most part. I can’t think of another year that I’ve been with the site when I’ve been more indifferent, bored, disappointed, and otherwise unamused by most of what I watched. Not like it should come as a huge shock to anyone that went to the theatre this year, but most of what I’ve included on my Worst Of list are studio films that feel like they were distributed and made by people who just don’t care. Marketing and brand loyalty made some of these movies money, not the actual quality of what was on screen – talk about depressing.
This year, one film stands above all others as the worst thing I had the displeasure of sitting through, regardless of genre, and everything else on my list might as well be second place; they’re all equally shallow and uninspired. As always, here’s to looking forward to next year, which will no doubt have a surprise or two, along with Stoker, Antiviral (hopefully), and You’re Next. READ MORE

Let’s face it – you’re not about to watch Piranha 3DD because you think it is going to be a fantastic exercise in thrilling horror. When the slogan of the film includes the line, “Double the D’s” (and they’re not talking about dinosaurs or dwarves), you should know what to expect. And while there are certainly a fair amount of “d’s” in this picture, Piranha 3DD mostly ends up failing in creating both a campy and entertaining experience.
A year after the events in Piranha 3D, a nearby lake becomes the new home to these deadly fish. Maddy (Danielle Panabaker), a marine biology major, comes home for the summer to work at the water park she co-owns with her creepy stepfather Chet (David Koechner). For clever marketing purposes (and an attempt to bring more revenue to the park), Chet has turned this once family friendly water park into a haven for strippers. He also hired David Hasselhoff (as himself) to be a guest lifeguard on opening day (so expect a lot of jokes relating to his career). READ MORE
Anchor Bay Entertainment and Dimension Films will release the 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD of the campy comedy-horror film, Piranha 3DD, September 4th (tomorrow). A sequel to Piranha 3D – the 2010 reboot of the fan-favorite franchise from the ‘70s – Piranha 3DD stars Danielle Panabaker (The Crazies, Friday the 13th), Katrina Bowden (TV’s “30 Rock”), David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Get Smart), David Hasselhoff (TV’s “Baywatch,” “Knight Rider”), Christopher Lloyd (Piranha 3D, Back to the Future), and Gary Busey (Lethal Weapon, The Buddy Holly Story). Directed by John Gulager (Feast) and written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (the writing team behind four Saw, three Feast titles and the director/writer of The Collector and The Collection).
I recently hopped on the phone with Dunstan and Melton to discuss the challenges of topping the original on a diminished budget, David Hasselhoff’s cut introduction and working with religious water park owners on the raunchy sequel. We also get a tiny (almost no CGI) tidbit on The Collection. Head inside to check it out! READ MORE
After the terror unleashed on Lake Victoria, the pre-historic school of blood thirsty piranhas are back. This time, no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of summer’s best attraction, The Big Wet Water Park. Christopher Lloyd reprises his role as the eccentric piranha expert with survivor Paul Scheer and a partially devoured Ving Rhames back for more fish frenzy. David Hasselhoff trades in the sandy beaches of “Baywatch” to be a celebrity lifeguard at the racy water park. Prepare for double the terror, double the action and double the Ds.
Piranha 3DD arrives on VOD and in limited theaters June 1 from Dimension Films. In anticipation of the film’s release I sat down with director John Gulager (Feast) to talk about bringing an 80′s vibe to the project, filming in 3D and working with his co-conspirators Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan once again. As you’ll see below, Gulager also brought a special guest to the interview…
“There’s something in the water… again. And this time no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of the best summer attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.” It promises twice the terror and double the D’s.
Reteaming Gulager with Feast writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, the bloody sequel is jam-packed with stars including Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and even David Hasselhoff.

The John Gulager-directed sequel Piranha 3DD arrives on VOD and in limited theaters June 1 from Dimension Films. Today, Maxim has an EPK style video on the film with some clips from the movie and some anecdotes about dead cows farting from John Gulager along with a few glimpses of the carnage that takes place in the film’s 3rd act. It’s worth a look.

Opening simultaneously on VOD and in limited theaters in Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD, the John Gulager-directed sequel to Alex Aja’s bloody remake that reteams him with Feast writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. What’s interesting is that there’s this perception that Dimension is somehow dumping the film, but they’ve released numerous trailers, stills, and posters. Maybe they’re just super confident in the film and want to use it to break in this new mixed distribution plan? Anyway, another poster hit today. And it’s about what you’d expect. Busty.

*Just kidding. I’m not sure there was ever any doubt what Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD would be rated. I suppose there was slight a chance there’d be an ‘unrated’ version, but I just imagined that was what the eventual DVD/Blu cut would be. Dimension, like any other distributor, needs to get paid. And the only way to do that is with an “R” (a “PG13″ would be the antithesis of this franchise).
Piranha 3DD has been rated R for “Sequences of strong bloody horror violence and gore, graphic nudity, sexual content, language and some drug use.”
The John Gulagar-directed sequel was penned by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and David Hasselhoff all star.

‘Nothing333′ just tipped us off to the red band NSFW trailer for Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD, the John Gulagar-directed sequel swimming into theaters and VOD June 1. The footage is similar to the leaked international trailer, but there’s a bit more nudity, and a great one-liner from the Hoff!
The sequel, penned by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, continues down the path of “ridiculous” as the piranha this time make their way into swimming pools, pipes, plumping and such at a newly opened waterpark named “Wilderness Waters”! The race is on to save the town from these flesh-eating creatures that are leaving a bloodbath in their wake.

We’ve just now landed the full official trailer for Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD that I personally think is better than Alex Aja’s 2010 remake. The footage is over-the-top insane, and gives multiple homage to some of our favorite horror classics (including the infamous bathtub scene in A Nightmare On Elm Street). It looks absolutely amazing. Thanks to BD reader ‘DJblack1313′ for tipping us off.

Update: Having spoke with people involved with the film, Dimension U.S. fully owns Piranha 3DD and will be the first to release it (potentially spring 2012) worldwide. Other markets will follow. Thus, the following story is bunk.
According to the British Video Association, Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD, the sequel to the remake that reteams Feast director John Gulager with writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, has been pulled from its UK theatrical slot and instead will be dumped direct-to-disc on March 9, 2012. While the news is being downplayed on other websites, this definitely has repercussions here in the States. In other words, if Dimension Films is to release Stateside, it’ll need to be in theaters before March 9.
This sounds a bit fishy. More news as it comes in; until then, inside you’ll find the UK synopsis for the flick starring Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer, and even David Hasselhoff. The best part about films casting a bunch of oddball ex-stars is that they’ll talk to any press about their roles without conscious. Meaning, they’ll reveal everything if you ask nicely. Such the case with Gary Busey, who stars in Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD. Re-teaming Feast director John Gulager with writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, we were expecting awesomeness on this level:
“I play a farmer,” Busey tells Empire Magazine. “A cow explodes because of its farting ability and out of it come hundreds of piranha, raining down on me. You’ll see how I treat one of them.”
If that’s just a tease of how weird things get in Piranha 3DD it makes me think they took the sequel in the correct direction. Piranha 3D took itself way too serious. Point: David Hasselhoff stars in this one…. READ MORE

On November 23, there’s something in the water… again. And this time no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of the best summer attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.
With FX bringing the team back for more “League” this fall (10:30 p.m. Oct. 6 on FX), Star News Online caught up with “Human Giant” comedian Paul Scheer who revealed that he’s become BFFs with Ving Rhames in Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD, which was directed by John Gulagar for release Thanksgiving weekend.
In Alex Aja’s Piranha 3D, Scheer played sleazy photographer Drew Cunningham who apparently did survive last year’s campy 3D gore-fest, and, amazingly, so did Deputy Fallon, played by Ving Rhames.
According to the story, “Scheer did film a death scene for the original, but it was left on the cutting room floor, so his character’s fate was unresolved. But everyone can be forgiven for thinking Rhames’ character, who went down in a outboard motor-swinging blaze of glory, was fish food.
But, Scheer says, somehow both characters are back. And somehow they’ve become friends in between movies, likely bonding over their ordeal, which has left the good deputy terrified of H2O.
“I’m trying to get him back into the water,” Scheer said, which is how the two characters end up at a water park (played in the film by Jungle Rapids) where “things go wrong.”
Scheer said he and Rhames crammed six scenes into their busy day of filming, and that he and Rhames don’t spend much time with the film’s other stars, which include Danielle Panabaker, David Hasselhoff and Katrina Bowden.
“It’s almost like short film throughout the movie,” Scheer said of his scenes with Rhames. “It’s our little journey. We don’t interact with any of the other main characters – just us on this crazy journey during a piranha attack.”
The Big Wet Water Park gets INSANE on November 23.

Grab a drink and a cheeseburger because David Hasselhoff is heading back to the water in this year’s Piranha 3DD. He joins the previously announced cast which includes Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka and David Koechner.
Trading in the sandy beaches of “Baywatch” for terror at The Big Wet Water Park, Hasselhoff will face off with the flesh eating fish of Piranha 3DD on November 23, 2011.
Writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan reteam with Feast director John Gulgar for this wet and wild bloodfest.

Bloody Disgusting received breaking news that Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction) and Paul Scheer (“The League,” “Human Giant”) have signed on to join the cast of Piranha 3DD after surviving last year’s feast.
