International Trailer For ‘Dark Shadows’ Has A Look At Alice Cooper

2darkshadowsgallery031512 International Trailer For Dark Shadows Has A Look At Alice Cooper

The trailer for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows hit late last week and today we have a look at the international version. It’s pretty much identical, but if you’re an Alice Cooper fan you’ll be pleased to find that it introduces him near the end and shows a bit of his performance of “No More Mr. Nice Guy”.

I actually didn’t mind the trailer last week, it looks like the film will at least be better than Alice In Wonderland. But the Alice Cooper joke here falls super flat.

The original Gothic soap opera was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.

In theaters May 11 “The story focuses on Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp), who was transformed into a vampire by a jilted lover (Eva Green’s witch Angelique) way back in the 1700s and buried. He’s just been dug up, and attempts to reintegrate with his descendants, led by Michelle Pfeiffer’s Elizabeth and Jonny Lee Miller’s Roger – despite the fact that Angelique is still around and still not in a forgiving mood.

Tim Burton’s vampire version of Austin Powers?

With the HD version of the trailer arriving this afternoon being uploaded as we speak (still), right now international press has landed 30 hi-res images from Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, which can all be enjoyed by clicking any pictorial on display.

We’ve also just added the official one-sheet and proper version of the trailer, both of which are a bit hokey. I’m nervous that the film is trickling into “pop culture” territory with their (near) modern-day comedy. This could go very badly…

“The Ellen Show”, yup, that’s the audience Warner Bros. is selling Dark Shadows to. Not us. The women who watch “Ellen.” Originally a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies, Tim Burton has put his spin on the tale featuring his typical cast of misfits including Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. With a release set for May 11, I’m starting to think we’re going to be highly disappointed with this film.

If Youre Really Hard Up Heres Like 4 Seconds Of Dark Shadows

We’re all patiently waiting for the trailer for Dark Shadows, the Tim Burton-directed adaptation of the highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.

Or maybe not so patiently. After all, the film is less than 2 months away and we have yet to see any footage. That changes on Thursday, when the full trailer premieres on “The Ellen Show”. Of course, it could change today if you choose to watch the on-air teaser for the trailer.

The story focuses on Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp), who was transformed into a vampire by a jilted lover (Eva Green’s witch Angelique) way back in the 1700s and buried. Make Your Own Trailer With These Cool New ‘Dark Shadows’ Pics!

*Update: Images removed at the request of Warner Bros. Pictures.

Even more images from Dark Shadows have emerged, and I have to say these are some of my favorites. It’s nice getting a better look at Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green and Chloe Grace Moretz. What we still don’t have? A trailer that indicates if this film has the campy lilt in its step that’s been missing from Burton’s recent work.

Directed by Tim Burton, the adaptation of the TV soap hits theaters May 11, 2012. That really does make it seriously weird that there isn’t a trailer yet. Though we do have almost enough images to cut our own!

New Look At ‘Dark Shadows’ Cast Includes Alice Cooper

DarkLandscape330312 New Look At Dark Shadows Cast Includes Alice Cooper

More images from the set of Dark Shadows have emerged, and this time we get a look at Alice Cooper with some of the film’s cast. I kind of expected Tim Burton to do something new with his look, which this photo certainly does not reflect. Then again, these look more like snapshots of the cast hanging out, so perhaps he’s not in character at all. These snapshots also include original cast members from the old TV show, David Selby, Lara Parker, Jonathan Frid, and Kathryn Leigh Scott.

The story focuses on Collins, who was transformed into a vampire by his jilted lover, Angelique, way back in the 1700s and buried. He’s just been dug up, and attempts to reintegrate with his descendants, led by Michelle Pfeiffer’s Elizabeth and Jonny Lee Miller’s Roger – despite the fact that Angelique is still around and still not in a forgiving mood.

Directed by Tim Burton, the adaptation of the TV soap hits theaters May 11, 2012. That makes for the odd situation of being a major release that’s only two months away and doesn’t have a trailer yet.

Edgar Wright To Bring Depp To Life As Kolchak ‘The Night Stalker’!

Edgar Wright To Bring Depp To Life As Kolchak The Night Stalker!

Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright is going big time as Disney has set the British filmmaker to get behind the camera for the long-gestured The Night Stalker, the remake of the ABC telepic and series that the studio is developing as a potential star vehicle for Johnny Depp (Dark Shadows, A Nightmare on Elm Street) to play intrepid tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak, reports Deadline.

Wright comes aboard before the studio has set a writer, and he will oversee and shape the project with Depp and Dembrowski from the ground floor.

The film took root at the studio last summer, borne out of Depp and Dembrowski’s fond memories of the original ’70s movie and series that starred Darren McGavin. He covered crime for a tabloid and his cases always led to supernatural perpetrators that included zombies, vampires, werewolves and aliens. Of course, neither his editor nor anyone else would believe him or allow him to run what seemed like outrageous stories. But Kolchak would put himself in grave danger each episode.

The subject matter will be tailored to fit Disney’s family film mandate and likely get a PG-13 rating. READ MORE

Johnny Depp’s Barnabas Collins Wants You To Be Patient In New ‘Dark Shadows’ Pic!

BarnabusLandscape11912 Johnny Depps Barnabas Collins Wants You To Be Patient In New Dark Shadows Pic!

Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows could either be a glorious return to form or an even deeper retreat into his hermetically sealed safety zone. I haven’t been a fan of much of his recent work, but sometimes people needs to crank out a few duds before they remember why they loved making films in the first place.

So while the emerging imagery of Depp as Collins looks pretty cool, it also looks like standard Burton. Aesthetically, we know that’s what this movie will be. Let’s just hope the storytelling portion of his skill set is reinvigorated.

Rumor Confirmed: Alice Cooper Appearing In ‘Dark Shadows’!

Cooper110211 Rumor Confirmed: Alice Cooper Appearing In Dark Shadows!

Back in June we reported on a rumor that Alice Cooper may be taking a cameo in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows. Now it seems that rumor has been confirmed by the man himself.

Per the LA Times, “Cooper was equally impressed walking through the huge, elaborate sets of “Dark Shadows,” the Warner Bros. film that stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green and Helena Bonham Carter and reaches theaters in May 2012. ‘They should take that set and make it a haunted house next year,’ Cooper said of the Pinewood Studios constructs that include a sprawling gothic mansion and a harbor city complete with pier and boats floating in an artificial ocean. Cooper plays himself in the film, which is set in 1972 – Depp’s character, the recently revived vampire Barnabas Collins, hires the rock star to play a private ball at his seaside home in Maine.

‘The Lone Ranger’ Was to Meet The Wolf Man?

There’s a big story developing in Hollyweird that has secretly affected us genre fans. Maybe you heard about Disney’s epic The Lone Ranger, which was to be directed by the great Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean), and star acting sensation Johnny Depp. Deadline broke the news August 12 that Disney had shut down production after the ballooning budget reached nearly $250 million. While they’ve since updated the story that it could be resurrected in the coming week, word on the street is that it’s DEAD.

The importance to genre fans is that, apparently, The Lone Ranger was to be a $250 million dollar werewolf movie. Yes, you read that correctly. An updated article over at Hollywood-Elsewhere writes that the reason Ranger‘s budget was so astronomically high that Disney execs decided to shut it down was because it’s an effects-heavy CG thing due to being a kind of an Indian-spirituality werewolf movie — a.k.a., The Lone Ranger Meets the Wolfman. Further adding that a 3.29.09 draft of Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio’s script makes it clear it was going to be at least partly about some kind of Native American wolfbeast tearing victims apart and leaving a bloody mess.

Word had it that it was going to be a Tonto show – Tonto as the top dog and more dominant than the Lone Ranger. Tonto and the Indian spirits like Obi Wan Kenobi and the force. The driving engine was going to be Native American occult aspects worked in with werewolves and special effects. But flavored with doses of Native American spirituality in a serious way.

More speculation is that Disney got cold feet after Universal’s Cowboys & Aliens performed poorly, which is interestingly timed with the death of Ron Howard’s epic The Dark Tower adaptation. FEAR is nothing new in Hollywood…

The Lone Ranger was scheduled to be released Dec. 21, 2012, smack up against The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which opens Dec. 14, and the Brad Pitt-starrer World War Z, which was just slated for Dec. 21.

Johnny Depp Hunts Creatures of the Night as ‘The Night Stalker’!

Disney and Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil are teaming up on a feature version of the crazy awesome ’70s TV movie The Night Stalker. Depp is the potential star of the film, reports Deadline.

Like many, Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski and Depp had fond memories of the ABC telepic and series “The Night Stalker,” and they got Disney’s Rich Ross and Sean Bailey sparked on a pitch for Depp to potentially play tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak. Originated by Darren McGavin, Kolchak was the dogged journalist first seen in the 1972 telepic (where he hunted a killer who was draining the blood of beautiful girls on the Las Vegas strip) and later in the ABC series “Kolchak: The Night Stalker.” Kolchak’s investigations always seemed to lead him to the doorstep of vampires, zombies, werewolves and aliens. For its time, it was pretty scary stuff.

Depp is currently at work on feature version of the ’70s British telesoap Dark Shadows for Tim Burton.

Tim Burton Slams Right Into ‘Dark Shadows’

After years of gestation, artist-turned-director Tim Burton is finally behind the camera for his adaptation of the British soap opera Dark Shadows, which heads a mighty cast. During an interview with TheWrap he explained that they’ve already begun filming some intensive footage while also really delving into the film’s “tone.”

It’s been hard to kind of come here because I’m just starting, and it’s a weird tone and it’s a lot of actors and, you know, we’re not starting with the simple stuff; we’re sort of getting right in there. You like to kind of sneak up on it a little bit, but this one we just kind of slammed right into it, he explains also talking a bit about the soap opera qualities. “Yes, I don’t know. I’m early into it because it’s a funny tone, and that’s part of what the vibe of the show is, and there’s something about it that we want to get. But when you look at it, it’s pretty bad. I’m hoping that it will be — it’s early days, let’s put it — I’m very intrigued by the tone. It’s a real ethereal tone we’re trying to go for and I don’t know yet.

He also confirms that Warners pic starring Johnny Depp, Jackie Earle Haley, Bella Heathcote, Cloe Moretz, Eva Green and Michelle Pfeiffer is NOT being shot in 3-D for its May 11, 2012 release.

Michelle Pfeiffer Working with Tim Burton Again on ‘Dark Shadows’!

It’s rare when Tim Burton works outside of his comfort zone, which is why it comes as no surprise that Michelle Pfeiffer is in negotiations to reteam with Tim Burton for Dark Shadows, Warner Bros’ big-screen take on the 1960s gothic vampire TV soap opera starring Johnny Depp. Helena Bonham Carter is also in talks (there’s a shocker).

The movie has an April start and has been casting up, with Jackie Earle Haley, Eva Green and Bella Heatcote already on board.

Depp will portray Barnabas Collins, a self-loathing vampire living in a Maine manor who is searching for his lost love.

Pfeiffer would play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the reclusive matriarch of the Collins family which runs the Maine town. The character has not left the mansion since the disappearance of her husband a decade earlier. The last time she worked with Burton was in 1992′s Batman Returns where she memorably played Catwoman.
