In the spoof trailer and the upcoming feature, a loving father dons a clown outfit, wig, bulbous nose and pancake makeup to entertain at his son’s sixth birthday after the clown-for-hire is a no-show. Unable to take off the clown garb, dad’s personality changes in horrific fashion. He and his family race to break the curse of the evil outfit before he undergoes a complete transformation into a homicidal killer with over-sized shoes.
Christian DiStefano will star in the Eli Roth-produced Clown, says the Niagara Falls Review.
The seven-year-old Niagara Falls actor is currently in Ottawa filming the spook flick, produced by the Hostel and Cabin Fever director. Distefano stars as Jack, the son of a man who tries on a clown suit for a birthday party and becomes possessed by the spirit which inhabits it.
The film co-stars Elizabeth Whitmere (Being Erica) and Matthew Stefiuk.
Jon Watts is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Christopher D. Ford. It became an internet “thing” when a spoof trailer circulated back in 2011. In it, “A loving father dons a clown outfit, wig, bulbous nose and pancake makeup to entertain at his son’s sixth birthday after the clown-for-hire is a no-show. Unable to take off the clown garb, dad’s personality changes in horrific fashion. He and his family race to break the curse of the evil outfit before he undergoes a complete transformation into a homicidal killer with over-sized shoes.”
Clown is scheduled for release next year.
Bloody Disgusting reader Erik Yates tipped us off to an interview over at Behind the Thrills with writer-director-producer-actor Eli Roth, who is making press rounds to promote his Vegas attraction, “The Goretorium,” opening this September.
Hiding at the end of the chat, Roth reveals that there may finally be some turkey-f*cking in the future. He tells the site that Thanksgiving, the feature version of his faux trailer from the 2007 Grindhouse, is definitely happening.
“It’s gonna happen. I’m working with the Clowns writers on it,” he tells the site referring to Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford (Robot & Frank), the duo who came into Roth’s world after making their own faux trailer back in November 2010. “[We] have a called scheduled for tomorrow afternoon,” he adds stating that they will co-write the script with Roth and his writing partner Jeff Rendell. “We finally cracked the story and figured out how to make it really, really scary, and a reason to do it. Before John starts shooting Clown he has a window.” He expects to have a draft soon, but it’s unclear who will direct, if not Roth.
