Jocko Sims (pictured; Crash, White Space, Something Is Killing Tate) has joined the cast of Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, opposite Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Kodi-Smit McPhee and Gary Oldman, Variety reports.
Fox has set the film for release on May 23, 2014. Matt Reeves replaced Rupert Wyatt, who had directed 2011’s franchise reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes, in October.
Produced by Chernin Entertainment, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set in an apocalyptic future more than a decade after Rise of the Planet of the Apes, in which the ape population far exceeds humans. Script is penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

Twentieth Century Fox announced that principal photography is underway on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Here’s the first official synopsis: “A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. Andy Serkis, celebrated for his performance in the last film, reprises his role as Caesar. We’ve got our first behind the scenes look at Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to Twentieth Century Fox’s 2011′s hit franchise reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Matt Reeves is currently directing the sequel, which has already enlisted Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, and Gary Oldman playing some human characters with Judy Greer and Andy Serkis (and many others) playing the chimps. These photos from the Daily Mail cropped up after a shoot in the woods that presumably features both humans and chimps, since Russell and Clarke look normal and Serkis is wearing the mo-cap dots.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, in theaters May 23, 2014, continues the story of how ultra-intelligent simian Caesar (Andy Serkis) presides over the fall of human civilization. After the apes break out of their facility, a virus breaks out that causes the collapse of human society. The new project is taking the story to the next level, with the apes on the path to emerge as society’s new rulers.

It looks a little heavy on the CG to me, but at least the pace seems brisk. I’m reserving final judgement until I see the film, but I think DePalma is safe on his throne.

MGM and Screen Gems’ Carrie doesn’t come out until the 4th quarter of this year, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a steady trickle of news regarding it between now and then. Case in point? This new still that was released to Empire magazine (Scan via Comic Book Movie). It’s a variation on the previous blood drenched look we got, only the blood here is drying a bit. The vibe is a bit more “scabby.”

Hell Baby didn’t seem to “wow” anyone at this past January’s Sundance, but we’re all hoping that Jacob Vaughan’s horror comedy Milo plays this coming March’s SXSW Film Festival like gangbusters.
In the film, “A man discovers that his chronic stomach problems are due to the fact that he has a demon baby living in his colon.”
Ken Marino plays said man, and we’ve scored the film’s first ever image that displays Marino losing his mind over “something.” Peter Stormare, Gillian Jacobs, Stephen Root and Patrick Warburton also star. READ MORE

Even though NECA has yet to unveil all of their surprise announcements, the doors are officially open on the New York Toy Fair, and the toy company has already shared quite a few “first Looks.”
With new Prometheus figures to be unveiled in the next few days, the company has released prototypes of their new Aliens line, which includes Hudson, Hicks, and a slew of Aliens (such as the Xenomorph Warrior). There also appears to be an “Exploding Alien,” which is incredible.
They’ve also shared their Carrie figure, featuring a normal and varient version of Chloe Moretz as the title character, one of which is covered in pig’s blood. While the movie is in theaters this October, the toys will be in stores this August. A quick update also included a look at 3 Jaeger’s from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, in theaters this July.
Then there’s the reveal of a ED-209 (Enforcement Droid Series 209) from Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 RoboCop. Says wiki, the ED-209, created by Omni Consumer Products, serves as a heavily-armed obstacle and foil for the series’ titular character, as well as a source of comic relief due to its lack of intelligence and tendency towards clumsy malfunctions.
Lastly, for now, come a sneak peak at new Predator and Predators, as well as a major gift to fans collecting the toys. Says NECA, “The Predator Trophy Wall”(!) is “a reward for those who collected them all. If you got everything you have all the skulls except the BIG dino one.” The Predator line consists of two versions of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch, as well as an invisible Predator.

Director Jose Padilha reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman as the title character, Gary Oldman as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson as media mogul Pat Novak. Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Kenneth Williams, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Michael Keaton and Aimee Garcia also star. Peter Weller played the character in the original and the 1990 sequel.
Lastly, we’ve added a Russian teaser for Renny Harlin’s The Dyatlov Pass Incident, and it looks awesome. While we don’t get too much from the Russian-language tease, the true story is off-the-charts freaky and is sure to deliver quite a punch in theaters. “It follows a group of students on a trek to investigate the true life mystery of nine Russian skiers who befell an unexplained death while skiing in the Russian mountains in 1959. A really cool Carrie poster began to circulate early yesterday morning. It featured Julianne Moore as young Carrie’s mother with blood red eyes, and a crucifix around her neck. Evan Dickson quickly checked with Sony, who told us that it was fan made. Hence, we didn’t report on it. But alas, a day later and sites are reporting that it’s legit without even providing any sources; therefore we’re here to share the “fan made” one-sheet that’s tricked the Web.

On March 15 Sony and MGM will burn theaters down with their modern adaptation of Stephen King’s classic Carrie, this time dropping the pig’s blood on poor Chloe Moretz’s head with the help of director Kimberly Peirce.
Typically when a classic is remade we all immediately wonder what the original’s director thinks. Typically.
Fangoria caught up with Brian De Palma, who helmed the 1976 film version that earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.
“I know Kimberly Pierce, I’ve known her for twelve years,” De Palma told the magazine. “She’s a bright, talented person. I tried to encourage her to make a movie very quickly after the success of Boys [Don't Cry] and it took her years to find right material…but anyway, she contacted me when she decided to do Carrie. We discussed the right way to approach it, who she was going to cast and we had a few discussions about it and basically I gave her my blessing. She’s a very talented girl and I’m really excited to see what she does. It will be more like the book, I think, which is Sue Snell’s testimony which puts Carrie in kind of brackets…”
Really? I mean, REALLY?!?!
I’m sorry but the only person who has the right to “give their blessing” is the great Stephen King.
