Carrie (2013)

Carrie tells the supernatural tale of a telekinetic teenage girl tormented by her peers. The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine, is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter, Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

Official: A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of Carrie earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

UK ‘Carrie’ Poster Offers A Bloody Variant

The gang over at Empire has a look at the UK poster for MGM and Screen Gems’ Carrie remake. I actually like it a little bit better than the US one, even though it’s nothing new from the campaign really.

In theaters October 18 (in the US, the UK gets is November 29th), the Kimberly Peirce-directed redo is “A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.” Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday also star.

A Brief Clip From Tomorrow’s ‘Carrie’ Trailer Makes Things Move!!

MGM and Screen Gems’ release the full trailer for their Carrie remake tomorrow, but Entertainment Tonight just aired a brief, high quality tease of it. Some of it looks cool, but I’m not sold on the floating books stuff. Maybe once I see it in the context of the whole trailer! Or… maybe once I see it in the context of the whole film! I roll old school sometimes.

[Interview] Talking ’6 Souls’ And Julianne Moore With Screenwriter Michael Cooney

The Julianne Moore starring 6 Souls (formerly Shelter), arrives on VOD Today March 1st before hitting limited theaters April 5. Directed by Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein and co-starring Jonathan Rhys Myers, I found the film to be a fun throwback to those very “adult approved” early 90′s horror/thrillers. That’s not meant as a dig at all, it’s just a very specific type of movie and it does what it does well.

In the film, “After the death of her husband, Dr. Cara Harding’s (Julianne Moore) faith in God has been shaken, but not her belief in science. In an attempt to open her up to accepting unexplainable psychiatric theories, her father introduces her to Adam, a patient with multiple personalities who takes on some of the physical characteristics of his other personalities. But, Cara quickly discovers that Adam’s other personalities are murder victims and the more she finds out about him and his past, the closer she and her loved ones are to becoming murder victims themselves.

I recently interviewed screenwriter Michael Cooney (Identity) and we discussed the genesis of the film, his take on Marlind & Stein’s unique directing process and his next project, In The Dark. Head inside to check it out! READ MORE

This New ‘Carrie’ Pic Is A Bloody Variation!

MGM and Screen Gems’ Carrie doesn’t come out until the 4th quarter of this year, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a steady trickle of news regarding it between now and then. Case in point? This new still that was released to Empire magazine (Scan via Comic Book Movie). It’s a variation on the previous blood drenched look we got, only the blood here is drying a bit. The vibe is a bit more “scabby.”

[Toy Fair '13] NECA Sneaks Looks At ‘Pacific Rim,’ ‘Carrie,’ ‘Aliens,’ ‘RoboCop,’ and ‘Predator’!

UPDATED WITH HI-RES IMAGES!

Even though NECA has yet to unveil all of their surprise announcements, the doors are officially open on the New York Toy Fair, and the toy company has already shared quite a few “first Looks.”

With new Prometheus figures to be unveiled in the next few days, the company has released prototypes of their new Aliens line, which includes Hudson, Hicks, and a slew of Aliens (such as the Xenomorph Warrior). There also appears to be an “Exploding Alien,” which is incredible.

They’ve also shared their Carrie figure, featuring a normal and varient version of Chloe Moretz as the title character, one of which is covered in pig’s blood. While the movie is in theaters this October, the toys will be in stores this August. A quick update also included a look at 3 Jaeger’s from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, in theaters this July.

Then there’s the reveal of a ED-209 (Enforcement Droid Series 209) from Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 RoboCop. Says wiki, the ED-209, created by Omni Consumer Products, serves as a heavily-armed obstacle and foil for the series’ titular character, as well as a source of comic relief due to its lack of intelligence and tendency towards clumsy malfunctions.

Lastly, for now, come a sneak peak at new Predator and Predators, as well as a major gift to fans collecting the toys. Says NECA, “The Predator Trophy Wall”(!) is “a reward for those who collected them all. If you got everything you have all the skulls except the BIG dino one.” The Predator line consists of two versions of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch, as well as an invisible Predator.

More news and hi-res imagery coming in the next few days. READ MORE

[News Bites] ‘Carrie’s’ Gym Report Card; ‘RoboCop’ Armor; Sweet Teaser For ‘Dyatlov Pass Incident’

Here’s a quick news round up to get this evening party started. It begins with a look at one of Carrie’s report cards. Says the Facebook page: “Her gym teacher, Ms. Desjardin, was obviously aware that Carrie was in need of some extra attention. But did she know how much attention was needed?” Check out the report card inside. Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie, which stars Chloe Moretz as the title character alongside Julianne Moore, Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday, was recently moved to October 18 of this year.

Also inside, via Latino Review, you’ll find a picture of an EM-208 Humanoid Drone, which is part of OmniCorp’s product line from MGM’s RoboCop reboot/sequel in theaters February 7, 2014. Director Jose Padilha reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman as the title character, Gary Oldman as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson as media mogul Pat Novak. Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Kenneth Williams, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Michael Keaton and Aimee Garcia also star. Peter Weller played the character in the original and the 1990 sequel.

Lastly, we’ve added a Russian teaser for Renny Harlin’s The Dyatlov Pass Incident, and it looks awesome. While we don’t get too much from the Russian-language tease, the true story is off-the-charts freaky and is sure to deliver quite a punch in theaters. “It follows a group of students on a trek to investigate the true life mystery of nine Russian skiers who befell an unexplained death while skiing in the Russian mountains in 1959. To this day, their deaths have been one of the most bizarre unsolved mysteries of the 20th century.READ MORE

The Fan Made ‘Carrie’ Poster That Tricked The Web

A really cool Carrie poster began to circulate early yesterday morning. It featured Julianne Moore as young Carrie’s mother with blood red eyes, and a crucifix around her neck. Evan Dickson quickly checked with Sony, who told us that it was fan made. Hence, we didn’t report on it. But alas, a day later and sites are reporting that it’s legit without even providing any sources; therefore we’re here to share the “fan made” one-sheet that’s tricked the Web.

Director Kimberly Peirce On The New Ending Of ‘Carrie’!

Sony Screen Gems’ Carrie stars Chloë Grace Moretz as the title character along with Julianne Moore as her overprotective mother Margaret. Obviously quite a few things remain intact from Brian De Palma’s 1976 version of the film, but producer Kevin Misher and director Kimberly Peirce have also been vocal about the fact that they are, first and foremost, basing their adaptation on Stephen King’s book – which had some key differences.
