[Random Cool] Watch Helen Hunt And Gwyneth Paltrow Vie For Laura Dern’s Role In ‘Jurassic Park’!

While Universal is banging the drum for the Jurassic Park 3D re-release – in theaters this Friday, April 5th – they’re having the talent involved with the film reminisce to major outlets about its’ 20th Anniversary. Here’s an interview Laura Dern and Sam Neill did for “The Today Show”, and there’s a cool look at what might have been! Still think Dern was the right choice for the role though.

It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s a nice little look at what could have been. I like Paltrow, but she was way too young and soft at the time to play Dr. Ellie Sattler. Head inside to check it out! READ MORE

[News Bites] Insurge Stalks ‘Equinox’; “Under the Dome” Casting; “Dexter” Gains A Hitman; ‘Jurassic Park 3D’ Poster

It’s been another massive news day, so here’s a few evening briefs to send you off until tomorrow. It begins with THR reporting that Paramount’s low-budget genre Insurge label is going sci-fi with Equinox, which is being written by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes. Project details are being kept secret but it is being described as “Dead Calm in space,” according to sources. Calm, released in 1989, was an enclosed thriller set on a boat which pitted a married couple against a murderer. Mason and Boyes are Brits who previously wrote NSFW, and collaborated on The Devil’s Chair and other random indie thrillers that Mason directed.

The site also reports that Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Cloverfield alum Mike Vogel, pictured above, has been tapped to join the cast of the network’s sci-fi drama “Under the Dome.” Based on the book by Stephen King, the summer series “Follows residents in the community of Chester’s Mill as they deal with the postapocalyptic conditions that ensue when a strange dome mysteriously encapsulates the town.” Vogel will play Barbie, an Army veteran who is in Chester’s Mill on a mysterious mission during which he might have killed a man. He’s not a bad guy but, at the same time, not someone to be messed with. He’s as baffled by the dome as everyone and befriended by an investigative journalist named Julia, though his shadowy past will complicate his relationship with the married woman. Director Niels Arden Oplev (Sweden’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) will direct the first episode.

TVLine managed to get a few details about Nick Gomez‘s (“The Walking Dead”) upcoming guest spot on “Dexter.” The site reports that Gomez will play hit man Javier Guzman on the Showtime drama. The character — who goes by the nickname El Sapo — will find himself frustrated when Debra gets in between him and his target, which probably isn’t great news for Dexter’s sis.

Lastly, Cine1 has a really crappy new poster for Jurassic Park 3D, the 3D re-release of the 1993 Steven Spielberg classic making its IMAX 3D debut on April 9th. The CG work looks better than anything in “Aliens: Colonial Marines,” at least… READ MORE

Trailer For Uni’s 3-D ‘Jurassic Park’ Release

Steven Spielberg’s epic Jurassic Park gets the 3-D treatment April 5, 2013. We’ve updated with the trailer for the re-release.

While the post-converted garbage is just a way to pull in some extra cash, it could also tell the studio we want more dino action.

Sam Neill and Laura Dern star in the 1993 adaptation that begins during a preview tour of a new theme park, which suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok.

Thus far the film has grossed $914,691,118 worldwide, could the re-release push it over a billion? Who cares…I just want more movies, toys and JP t-shirts. READ MORE

Universal Wants Kennedy and Spielberg To Open New ‘Jurassic Park’ Location ASAP?

On October 9 Steven Spielberg’s classic E.T. arrives on Blu-ray for the first time ever. To build press for the day, producer Kathleen Kennedy talked to various outlets about the new release. Collider snuck in a question about the long gestated Jurassic Park IV.

So, what is the status of the fourth Jurassic Park?

Writing, writing, writing,” emphasizes Kennedy. “It’s really hard to keep these things going when there’s an expectation and a desire by the public and the audience to keep certain franchises going. As filmmakers, we often sit there constantly saying, ‘Okay. We have to answer the question, ‘Why do another one?” If you can’t answer that question, you shouldn’t be doing it. It’s tough. We’re trying to come up with a story that makes sense and isn’t going to disappoint people and is, hopefully, going to get people excited and reinvigorate the franchise. We’ve got to start with a script and the story.

When asked what is the conversation with the studio is like, Kennedy explained: “They’re just like, “When?” They don’t care about the agony we’re going through.

I think the real question that should have been asked is: Jurassic Park IV or Jurassic Park 3D? The entire franchise has pulled in $1.9 billion worldwide thus far. READ MORE
