Del Toro and Matthew Robbins penned the adaptation of a 1973 ABC telepic, penned by Nigel McKeand. Directed by Troy Nixey, when a little girl (Bailee Madison) is sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the old mansion they are renovating, she unwittingly unleashes malevolent creatures bent on destroying all of them.

Alternate: The pic follows Sally (Bailee Madison), a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. Having stumbled upon the mansion’s hidden basement, Sally starts hearing voices calling out from the bolted ash pit, imploring her to open it. FilmDistrict continues to unload clip after clip from Troy Nixey’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (review) that’s sure to combine into the entire film by the time it hits theaters on August 26.

The latest piece of footage from the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror traps Sally in the bathtub when the creatures play MacGyver with a light switch. Don’t tell Sally, but all she has to do is turn the light back ON to scare away the little creatons.

While I think the treatment of the font is beautiful, the new poster for FilmDistrict’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (review) is one of the worst sales pitches in recent memory. It literally features the title font, and a bunch of names that mean absolutely nothing to the general public other than Katie Holmes, who is simply known as the chick who married Tom Cruise. I’m sorry, but this poster gets a firm F-

Last night the LA Film Festival hosted the world premiere of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, the Troy Nixey directed, Guillermo del Toro produced remake of the 1973 telepic that will eventually hit theaters on August 26. FilmDistrict hit the jackpot with James Wan’s Insidious, can they repeat?

FilmDistrict’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, the Guillermo del Toro-produced redo of the 1973 made for TV flick, is closing the Los Angeles Film Festival this coming Sunday before arriving in theaters August 26. While both posters were remarkable, and the pair of trailers released induced chills down my spine, I find the hi-res images release beyond lackluster. There’s nothing like a film that actually deserves a remake. The original 1973 made for TV version of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark is pretty dated, and cheesy. So for Guillermo del Toro to produce a modern redo, it only made sense.

The original teaser for the Troy Nixey-directed nightmare was absolutely incredible, and with an August 26 release in the cards, an even more insane full-length trailer has made its way online. There’s a lot more whispering…
