Universal has a released a 60-second TV Spot for R.I.P.D., starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, Mary-Louise Parker, Marisa Miller, Mike O’Malley, James Hong, Robert Knepper, and Tobias Segal.
In theaters July 19, “Nick is dead — at least, that’s how he remembers it — and teams up with another deceased detective, a gunslinger from the Old West (played by Jeff Bridges), to work for the elite task force, the Rest In Peace Department (hence the title), to track down the dead on Earth. (Due to overpopulation, some unsettled spirits haven’t gone where they’re supposed to, and are hiding out). Technically, R.I.P.D. officers (who are overseen by Mary-Louise Parker) aren’t allowed to kill anyone living, and aren’t supposed to interact with anyone from their previous lives, but Nick is haunted by the fact that he was murdered by another cop (played by Kevin Bacon), and can’t let it go.” READ MORE
After the ugly first poster, Universal has a released a better, more comicbook-y one-sheet for R.I.P.D., starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, Mary-Louise Parker, Marisa Miller, Mike O’Malley, James Hong, Robert Knepper, Tobias Segal.

Universal Pictures’ R.I.P.D. is aiming for a July 19th release and it has been a long time coming. The film seemingly shot forever and, according to screenwriters Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, it was all in service of making this Dark Horse adaptation a bigger experience for the fans.
The pair explained the added scenes to Collider with Manfredi elaborating, “A lot of the core scenes from our early drafts are still there. They’ve remained through every version of the script. I think where it changed a little bit from the first draft to the last draft is that it just got bigger and bigger in scope. And so, the finale was a smaller set piece in our first draft and it developed. We were in a meeting recently, and we were like, “do you remember when this ended on a farm, like Witness?””
Hay adds, “…But in the movie, it’s a lot of two guys driving around in a car together and driving each other insane. That’s what this movie is and what’s it’s always been. I think that Jeff and Ryan do incredibly well together.”
Robert Schwentke directs the film starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, Mary-Louise Parker, Marisa Miller, Mike O’Malley, James Hong, Robert Knepper and Tobias Segal.
Universal Pictures’ R.I.P.D. is aiming for a July 19th release and has started their hype machine. The official trailer just hit, and I’m sort of confused as to how I feel about it. I expected something that felt a little bit Men In Black, but I didn’t expect it to feel THIS much like it! I also don’t know how I feel about Jeff Bridges reprising the Rooster Cogburn accent from True Grit.

Out of the CinemaCon starting tomorrow in Las Vegas comes teaser logo posters for a trio of upcoming genre films.
The Insidious Chapter 2 looks like the film’s first logo, only with the letter “S” forming a “2″. In theaters September 13, Oscar-nominated Barbara Hershey will play the role of Lorraine Lambert, the mother to Patrick Wilson’s Josh Lambert and the grandmother to the demon-possessed boy Dalton. Directed by James Wan, who was recently attached to the next Fast & Furious installment, the pic also stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Andrew Astor, Jocelin Donahue, and Danielle Bisutti.
I quite enjoy FilmDistrict’s Oldboy tease, which scratches out the number of days before the protag. is released from prison. In theaters October 11, the film stars Josh Bolin as an advertising executive who is kidnapped and imprisoned for 20 years without explanation. He is abruptly released and sets out to discover the who and why of his captivity, running across a social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson and James Ransone.
Just added is also a look at the poster for Uni’s R.I.P.D., Robert Schwentke’s troubles comic adaptation in theaters July 19. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak and Mary-Louise Parker, it follows a recently slain cop joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department and tries to find the man who murdered him. Universal Pictures’ R.I.P.D. is aiming for a July 19th release, and they’re down to the wire. This film has been in the works for longer than I have even been working here (one of my first news posts was a set pic) and could possibly even still be shooting (they were a month ago). This leaves very little time to lock picture and postconvert to 3D, but I hold out hope.
Anyway, EW scored the first pic from the film. It looks aight. Jeff Bridges definitely has some cool mustache stuff going on and I did his golden gun. Let’s just hope this isn’t wht Wild Wild West of the undead.

I still haven’t gotten past the pilot of “The Following”, but apparently a lot of you have! Per Variety, “Warner Bros. TV’s “The Following” bowed strongly in January in the Monday 9 p.m. timeslot, and sees benefits from Live+7 ratings (particularly DVR use), which places the frosh drama in the No. 2 broadcast drama spot this season in 18-49. Fox ordered 15 episodes for its second season, the same order as its first run.”
The FBI estimates there are currently over 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances across the country? What if one brilliant psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a following? Welcome to “The Following”, the terrifying new thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the Scream franchise) and director Marcos Siega (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dexter”).
“The Following” airs Monday nights on Fox at 9/8c.
Universal Pictures’ R.I.P.D. is getting post-converted to 3-D for its July 19 release. What’s even more interesting is that they’ve been filming additional scenes for months, which begs the question, are they shooting the new scenes in 3-D? I doubt it. Aussie actress Sarah Snook (star of Lionsgate’s Ghosts, directed by Saw 3D’s Kevin Greutert; pictured above) has just landed the lead female role opposite Ethan Hawke in Predestination, a time-travelling sci-fi thriller that reteams Hawke with his Daybreakers writer-directors Peter and Michael Spierig, reports Deadline. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions acquired domestic and some international rights in Cannes to the pic, in which Hawke plays a Temporal Agent who on his final assignment pursues a criminal who has long eluded him. Blacklab Entertainment’s Tim McGahan and Wolfhound Pictures’ Patrick McDonald produce the movie, which is based on a short story by Robert A. Heinlein. Shooting begins April 8 in Melbourne.
Lastly, it was confirmed today long standing news that Harry Potter, Horns and The Woman in Black‘s Daniel Radcliffe, pictured, is in final negotiations to star as Igor in the classic tale Frankenstein for 20th Century Fox and Davis Entertainment, says Variety. Paul McGuigan is on board to direct the gothic feature from a script by Max Landis (Chronicle). Based on Mary Shelley’s 19th century novel, “Frankenstein” is expected to shoot in the fall. READ MORE
This is made for people like me who missed the last four episodes of “The Following” and want to catch up. Actually, come to think of it, I missed the last four episodes because I strongly disliked the pilot. But who knows? Maybe the show got better and this is all I need to catch up and enjoy episode 6 on, “The Fall”, on Monday?

I’m not saying I won’t give “The Following” a shot. I will. I’m just saying that, right here and right now, it looks incredibly stupid. So it’ll probably be a success. Anyway there’s a new promo for it that plays up the organizational aspects of this league of serial killers.

We’ve been covering the Kevin Bacon starring serial killer “The Following” on the site for a while now, so this feels like it’s worth mentioning. The thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the Scream franchise) and director Marcos Siega (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dexter”) has been the target of scrutiny at this week’s TCA Conference.
I honestly don’t believe fictional violence and real life violence are at all linked, but apparently some people out there either feel differently or want to self righteously exploit tragedy. Per Deadline, “critics peppered Williamson with questions about whether television shows like this one may be part of the problem.” Williamson responded, “I think we all worry about (the violence issue)… Who wasn’t affected by Sandy Hook? We say in the writers room after that and were all traumatized by it. I know that when I put pen to paper, it affects me, but I’m not sure how We don’t sit around (in the writers room) and think of ways to kill people. I’m sitting and thinking of the drama. It’s meant to be a thriller and a provocative story.”
To quote Clueless, “Until mankind is peaceful enough not to have violence on the news, there’s no point in taking it out of shows that need it for entertainment value.”

In a quick TV news roundup to kickstart the week, it has been just 10 days since NBC passed on its “Munsters” reboot “Mockingbird Lane,” which had been in the works at NBC for two years under two regimes. But the network is not closing the door to bringing the family of monsters from the classic sitcom back, reports Deadline. “I won’t say we won’t do another version of The Muensters again,” NBC chief Robert Greenblatt said after the network’s executive session at TCA. He addressed the reasons for the decision not to proceed with Bryan Fuller’s “Mockingbird Lane” despite the pilot, which carried a reported $10-million price tag, doing decent ratings business when it aired as a Halloween special in October. “We just decided that it didn’t hold together well enough to yield a series,” Greenblatt said. “It looked beautiful and original and creative, but it just all ultimately didn’t come together…, it just didn’t ultimately creatively all work.” The pilot featured a cast led by Jerry O’Connell as family patriarch Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as his wife Lily, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa, and Charity Wakefield as cousin Marilyn. “We felt great about that cast,” Greenblatt said. “But we tried to make it not just a sitcom. We tried to make it an hour, which ultimately has more dramatic weight than a half-hour. It’s hard to calibrate how much weirdness vs. supernatural vs. family story. I just think we didn’t get the mix right.”
Greenblatt talked with TVGuide about “Hannibal,” the forthcoming small screen prequel to The Silence of the Lambs. Greenblatt said Hannibal could make it on the schedule before the end of the season if other midseason offerings fizzled. But he also said it could be held for summer, where it might be competitive against high-quality cable dramas. Added NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke: “It’s very unique. It’s like a procedural you’ve never seen before.” Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne star. The pilot is directed by 30 Days of Night‘s David Slade.

You’ll also find a behind-the-scenes video to go with the dozens of images! The pic, also starring Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Jonas Armstrong, Tony Way, Kick Gurry, Franz Drameh, Dragomir Mrsic and Charlotte Riley, centers on a soldier (Cruise) in a near-future war against aliens who relives his last day over and over after being killed. Now we’ve got the full trailer. It looks fairly interesting, but I kind of doubt it will push my buttons in the way that my favorite shows do. Tonally I’m getting a heavy procedural vibe even if the show ends up bucking that structure. What do you think?

Universal Pictures is sending Robert Schwentke back behind cameras this weekend for some additional shooting on R.I.P.D., the feature film adaptation of the Dark Horse comic that stars Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Bacon, Bloody Disgusting has discovered.

Next up is a clip from the first episode of Season 3 of AMC’s “The Walking Dead“ which kicks off October 14. This one features our gang trying to figure out some sh*t on a map. Not one of the show’s most compelling moments, but you know you like it all.
Last but not least (ok, kind of least since we haven’t seen the show yet – fingers crossed) are some cool new character posters (via EW) from “The Following”, the new Kevin Williamson created, Kevin Bacon starring, serial killer show from Fox. It starts airing this January.

Universal Pictures has bumped back the release of Robert Schwentke’s comic book adaptation R.I.P.D. by a few weeks.
The film, originally slated to open June 28, will now hit theaters July 19, 2013, one week after Warners releases Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, Mary-Louise Parker and Marisa Miller, the pic follows the crew of the “Rest In Peace Department”.
“Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department–the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement “patrolling the deadbeat. . . reporting to one boss.” Yep–THAT boss. Nick Cruz died an untimely death, at the height of his personal and professional life. Why did he join the R.I.P.D.? Well, not knowing the identity of his killer has left his soul a bit. . . restless. Now he hunts some of the most fiendish creatures, hoping for the chance to find out who set him up so he can get into heaven.“
