Composer Kevin Riepl Streams 5 Tracks From Alien: Colonial Marines

Although it’s being labelled as disappointing by many critics around the world, our very own Adam Dodd quite enjoyed Sega’s Alien: Colonial Marines. One of the aspects that he truly enjoyed was the music, which was composed by Kevin Riepl (Gears Of War, HENRi, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge). Taking inspiration from the original James Horner score but giving unique and original twists, it seems that the music is the one thing that most critics can agree upon being a shining point in the game.

And now Kevin Riepl has uploaded five tracks from the game’s score for your listening pleasure. Head on below to get your taste. READ MORE

[Interview] Kevin Riepl On Scoring ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ And Living Up To The Legacy Of The Films

I recently had the opportunity to chat with composer Kevin Riepl, the man behind the soundtrack of the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines. Riepl’s work can also be heard in games like Gears of War and Unreal Tournament, as well as several horror films, including Silent Night and Cabin Fever: Patient Zero. Colonial Marines is a different beast in that its considered a sequel to Aliens, which obviously has a massive, devoted fan base, so there’s a definite bar to live up to. Kevin and I discuss those expectations and more after the break.

On Oct. 12th, at the New York Comic Con, there will be a panel that I’m quite upset I won’t be able to attend. Titled “Maestros Of Horror & Sci-Fi Music”, the panel will feature video game composers Jason Graves (Dead Space), Kevin Riepl (Gears Of War, Aliens: Colonial Marines), Sascha Dikiciyan (Mass Effect 3), Cris Velasco (Mass Effect 3), Sam Hulick (Mass Effect trilogy), Tom Salta (Halo: Combat Evolved), and Nile Rodgers (Halo soundtracks album producer).

The panel will be discussing composing for the horror and sci-fi genres as well as the art of scoring for blockbuster videogames. The panel will be held at the Javits Center in Room 1A01 from 12:15pm to 1:15pm.
