Jug Face

The pit has spoken. Dawai, the potter of a backwoods community, has crafted a face on a ceramic jug of the person that the pit wants sacrificed. Ada, pregnant with her brother’s child, has seen her face on the jug and hides it in the woods, determined to save the life of her unborn. If she does not sacrifice herself however, the creature from the pit will kill everyone in the village until she does.

Beneath (2013)

The story will follow six kids stranded on a rowboat who are attacked by a man-eating fish. The horror takes a page out of Hitchock’s book as, in order to survive, the kids one-by-one vote each other off the boat.

In ‘You’re Next’ the Davison family comes under attack from a terrifying group of sadistic murderers during a family reunion getaway. However, the masked killers didn’t count on Erin (Vinson), the young girlfriend of the eldest Davison son whose mysterious past has made her very difficult to kill.

Official: One of the smartest and most terrifying films in years, the film reinvents the genre by putting a fresh twist on home-invasion horror. When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped…until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.

Another Viral ‘You’re Next’ Image Haunts Some ‘Peeples’!

We’ve got yet another awesome viral image (via Collider) from the amazing You’re Next (review here), in theaters August 23.

After popping up at a Wedding and on a Temptation Bus Ad, another one of the film’s masked killers has popped up on a poster for Peeples in New York City, defacing yet another perfectly good Lionsgate poster.

Another ‘You’re Next’ Animal Invades Los Angeles Bus Shelter Ad!!

Back on Sunday we told you about the coolest viral campaign we’ve seen all year – Lionsgate had printed bus stop ads for The Big Wedding, only they were invaded by one of the “animals” from their forthcoming slasher You’re Next (review here), in theaters August 23.

While the ads had previously been reported across the New York area, an eagle-eyed reader in Culver City, California confirmed that Los Angeles is also being stalked by the killers from Adam Wingard’s You’re Next! Inside we have an insanely cool bus shelter ad for Tyler Perry’s Temptation that reflects yet another “animal” from the film. It’s unclear how old the Temptation photo is as the movie came out end of March, but these ads must have been up for a while. Lionsgate would not return our calls to comment. Special thanks to Bloody reader “Justin K.” for the the image and news tip!

This ‘You’re Next’ Viral Is The Coolest Thing I’ve Seen All Year!!

Update: Another bus shelter ad was spotted in Los Angeles! Lionsgate has just won the year with their absolutely ingenious viral campaign for Adam Wingard’s You’re Next (review), which opens in theaters August 23.

While we’re unaware of how many cities partook, Los Angeles and New York bus stops reportedly carry displays for Lionsgate’s upcoming comedy, The Big Wedding, which reflect one of the “animals” from the hotly anticipated slasher You’re Next!!

Looking at the following image, I can’t tell of there’s an actual reflection or if Lionsgate “printed” the animal on the top layer of the Big Wedding poster; either way, what you’ll see inside is pretty haunting and beyond eye-catching. Take a look and marvel at the brilliance behind Lionsgate’s marketing department. What do ya’ think?

2013 is primed to be one of the best years in horror – and thanks to Lionsgate we’ll be heading into the Halloween season with the beloved festival slasher You’re Next (read our review), which takes an ax to theaters on August 23. The Toronto International Film Festival smash hit blew the minds of the Midnight Madness audience, as well as this month’s SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Good luck finding a negative review.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, the duo best known for A Horrible Way to Die, V/H/S and the forthcoming V/H/S/2, “You’re Next is one of the smartest and most terrifying films in years, one that reinvents the genre by putting a fresh twist on home-invasion horror. When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped…until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.

Bloody Disgusting is excited to exclusively premiere one of three You’re Next teaser posters. [SXSW '13 Interview] Director Adam Wingard On Making ‘You’re Next’ And His Plans For ‘The Guest’ And ‘Dead Spy Running’!

Lionsgate’s You’re Next screened over the weekend to a packed crowd at this year’s SXSW Festival and, after 18 months of praise, everyone seemed to agree that the film lived up to the hype. One of the reasons behind the film’s creative success is Adam Wingard‘s incredibly assured hand as a director. I’ve always been fond of his work, but You’re Next is unlike anything else currently on his resume – a taut, crowd-pleasing horror film that has a uniquely addictive energy. I sat down with him after the screening to talk about the film’s violence and his approach towards making it feel huge.

[SXSW '13 Interview] Sharni Vinson On The Late Nights Of ‘You’re Next’!

Lionsgate’s You’re Next screened over the weekend to a packed crowd at this year’s SXSW Festival. While it was my third time seeing the film (which gets better with every viewing), it was the first time I’d seen it with a big audience and I wasn’t anticipating just how much of a crowd pleaser it would actually be. One of the most important components to that success is the performance Sharni Vinson delivers as Erin, the highly capable protagonist. I sat down with her the morning after the screening to talk about her role and the fact that she flourished during a shoot that many found exhausting.

[Slamdance '13 Review] Cultish Thriller ‘Jug Face’ A Biazzare And Creepy Slow-Burn

Under the radar and premiering at the Slamdance Film Festival is a new Lucky McKee production. The director fo May produces Chad Crawford Kinkle’s indie thriller about a backwoods community who worship “The Pit.” Starring The Woman‘s Lauren Ashley Carter and Sean Bridgers, the latest Moderncine production delivers yet again.

If anything, Jug Face fits into the world of May,” I state in my review. “Although someone else directs the pic, it feels much like a Lucky McKee film. Knowing this, fans should expect an insanely bizarre and creepy slow-burn with a lot of good ideas, and precise execution. It also harbors the lesson: don’t fuck with the pit…

[BD Review] Cultish Thriller ‘Jug Face’ A Creepy Slow-Burn

Moderncine is a company that should receive more praise than it gets. They’ve become the model for consistency, delivering a flurry of well made independent films over the past few years (including The Woman, Offspring and Ghoul). The 2013 Slamdance Film Festival played host to the world premiere of Jug Face, a cultish thriller from producer Lucky McKee and director Chad Crawford Kinkle.

The pic, which re-teams The Woman stars Lauren Ashley Carter and Sean Bridgers, follows a large backwoods community who live their lives by worshipping a pit. The pit is their God, and apparently one that is very real. There’s a treaty in place, where a semi-shaman, played by Bridgers, is given a vision to sculpt the “next” sacrifice on a jug. Said face is to be executed to the pit. Failure to comply makes the put angry, and hell ensues. You get the idea.

Jug Face feels really small, in a good way, and captures the essence of this tiny group of worshippers. It’s aesthetically similar to other Moderncine movies; it’s a look that gives the film quality and technical shows expertise. Although, it’s carried by strong performances, and a few explicate shots of gore.

If anything, Jug Face fits into the world of May. Although someone else directs the pic, it feels much like a Lucky McKee film. Knowing this, fans should expect an insanely bizarre and creepy slow-burn with a lot of good ideas, and precise execution. It also harbors the lesson: don’t fuck with the pit…

Lionsgate Schedules Hotly Anticipated ‘You’re Next’ For August 2013

Well, that took awhile. After scooping up the film at the 2011 TIFF, Lionsgate has been sitting on You’re Next, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett’s incredible home invasion slasher that stars Sharni Vinson, Nick Tucci, Wendy Glenn, AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Margaret Laney, Amy Seimetz, Ti West, Calvin Reeder, Larry Fessenden, Kate Lyn Sheil, Barbara Crampton and Rob Moran. Presumably, the issue of releasing arose when Lionsgate acquired Summit, leaving few slots for their upcoming horror releases.
