In the book Simmons supposes that survival from a catastrophic train crash changed author Charles Dickens, plunging him into the depths of London depravity and possibly turning him to murder before he wrote his final novel, “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.”

[Reaction] Why The Support For Tom Gabel Is So Important

Just a few days ago, in an interview with Rolling Stone (the full interview will appear in their June issue), Against Me! singer Tom Gabel announced that she was transgender and was going to undergo hormone treatment and electrolysis. She also announced plans to undertake the name Laura Jane Grace. Her wife Heather, who she has a two-year old daughter with, has committed her full support.

But she’s not the only one who has shown support. As a matter of fact, it seems that no matter which way I turn regarding this story, everyone has nothing but praise and encouragement for Tom and the journey that she is about to undergo. And that fills me with great hope for not only the mentality of our generation but also the mentality of a musical genre. READ MORE

Tom Gabel (Against Me!) Comes Out As A Transgender Woman

Last night I received a text message from BD writer Sammy Key concerning the lead singer of my favorite band Against Me!. When I googled his name it led to me a little article Rolling Stone had written in lieu of their June issue. In short lead singer Tom Gabel has been dealing with gender dysphoria for quite some time and because of this he has finally decided to come out and become a she. She plans on changing her to name to Laura Jane Grace and will begin hormone and electrolysis treatments in the coming months with the support of her wife Heather Gabel.

I will admit this came as a shock but then I reflected on Against Me!’s fourth full length album “New Wave“. The last song “The Ocean” revealed this: “And if I could have chosen, I would have been born a woman. My mother once told me she would have named me Laura. I’d grow up to be strong and beautiful like her.“. Looks Like Tom was giving us clues all long. Along with that Tom also played a song on his recent solo tour called “Transgender Dysphoria Blues” which you can watch past the break. I am very proud of Laura Jane Grace and I look forward to her happier future and the future of Against Me!, best of luck Laura.
