As Above, So Below
No plot details were given but sources say it would follow two archaeologists in search of a lost treasure in the catacombs below Paris.
Paradise Lost
Written in 1667, Milton’s epic poem revolves around the fall of man and the classic battle of good vs. evil, telling along the way the story of Satan/Lucifer, the angel who tries to overthrow God, and the temptation of Adam and Eve and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.
The project tells the story of the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer, and will be crafted as an action vehicle that will include aerial warfare, possibly shot in 3D.

The Lost Patrol
Plot details are still being kept under wraps though it is described as a supernatural action thriller set against the backdrop of World War II.
The Mountain
The story follows a small-town sheriff, newly arrived from the inner city, who assembles a search party to investigate the disappearance of hikers in the Cascade Mountains. The sheriff and the locals discover that the beautiful, remote wilderness can be just as menacing as any urban environment.
Here There Be Monsters
A movie about Revolutionary War naval hero John Paul Jones — except with sea monsters.
Cooper would play real-life Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones, albeit a much-younger Jones, well before he had famously “not yet begun to fight” the Brits. After he’s stripped of his British naval commission, Jones is hired by a shipping magnate to investigate the disappearance of merchant ships in the North Atlantic, which are used as toothpicks by a giant squid.”
Spectral
The premise of the project is centered on a modern-day, militaristic and gritty approach to fighting the supernatural. Sources say the pitch, which sold for six figures, has been described as a darker and more serious take on a Ghostbusters-like story, with a plot that revolves around a special ops group formed to bring down evil ghosts that have taken over Manhattan. Locations and details might change over the course of the writing, however.
Godzilla (2014)
Making his first appearance in 1954 (Gojira) Godzilla is a giant monster that lives in the sea that comes from the ocean to feed on mankind.
New ‘Pacific Rim’ Trailer Has More Monster Action Than Ever Before!!
This is what I’m talking about. Warner Bros. have just released what they’re calling the “main trailer” for Pacific Rim and it’s f*cking monstrous! This – even more than the awesome Wondercon Trailer – has my dying to see the film. I love the color, I love the imagery and I love those damn Kaiju.
In theaters July 12 from director Guillermo del Toro, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.”
Legendary Pictures Goes Smaller With ‘Quarantine’ Filmmakers In ‘As Above, So Below’
John Dowdle and Drew Dowdle (The Poughkeepsie Tapes, Quarantine, Devil) will co-write As Above, So Below for Legendary Pictures in what amounts to that studio’s first “microbudget” film. John will direct the film and Drew will produce.
Per Variety, “No plot details were given but sources say it would follow two archaeologists in search of a lost treasure in the catacombs below Paris.”
It’ll definitely be interesting to see what they come up with here and how Legendary plays in a smaller sandbox. The budget is pegged at between $5 and $10 million, which isn’t “micro” at all. It’s just not “big.”
No, There’s Not Going To Be A ‘Godzilla’ ‘Pacific Rim’ Crossover
Honestly, who would even care? I know it’s in fashion to say such things would be even remotely exciting but that’s really just fanboy wheel-spinning. Wishing for things that make no sense instead of wishing for decent movies. Anyway, no, the new Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla will not be crossing over with Legendary Pictures’ Pacific Rim – despite the fact that they’re both the property of the same studio and they both have giant monsters.
Del Toto, while on the subject of Pacific Rim 2, told Collider, “So far with the sequel, what we’re writing, what we’re creating, is very different, so there are no plans. Hypothetically, I would love the fuck out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain. But I don’t think there are plans on that. I don’t even know what direction they’re taking Godzilla in. I know somewhat that it’s grounded differently. Pacific Rim, my aspiration was, the color, the saturation of color, was almost an acid-drip version of the Heavy Metal coloring that I loved when Richard Corben was working there, when [Jean-Claude] Forest was working there. Super bright, super saturated, the crazy color and aesthetic. And Godzilla is more realistic, somewhat. That’s my thinking. That’s what I’ve heard. I don’t even know which way they’re going.”
That’s not Del Toro considering it. That’s him saying “no”, then thinking about what parts might work, then saying “no” again. If both film are huge hits, maybe the studio will try it at some point – but don’t expect one in theaters for at least 10 years.
Juliette Binoche To Meet ‘Godzilla’ In Real Life
Pack another good actor on to the pile for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla. Per Variety, Juliette Binoche (pictured above; Dan In Real Life, Cosmopolis) is in negotiations to star in the film to be directed by Monsters helmer Gareth Edwards. As always, character descriptions are being kept under wraps.
While Legendary awaits Frank Darabont’s polish on the script, it’s worth noting that apparently none of the talent will be officially signed until he turns in a draft. This includes Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene, Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”) and Aaron Johnson (Kick Ass).
Pic will bow May 16, 2014, with production expected to start next month. I’ll still believe it when I see it re: that production start date. READ MORE
Guillermo Del Toro Officially Directing ‘Crimson Peak’ Haunter Next!
Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, Pacific Rim) has officially announced that Crimson Peak will be his next feature venture behind the camera. The film is set to start shooting in early 2014, allowing him to finish post-production on Pacific Rim and direct his TV Pilot for “The Strain” (based on the vampire books he co-authored with Chuck Hogan). Legendary Pictures will produce with the expectation it will release through its deal with Warner Bros. In the meantime he’ll be doing a new draft of the script with Lucinda Coxon (Wild Target).
What is Crimson Peak? It sounds like a big-budget tackling of the terrain staked out by many of our favorite Haunted House movies, from classics such as The Haunting all the way up to Kubrick’s version of The Shining, which Del Toro seems to have a particular affinity for. Speaking of that film he told Deadline, “[it's] another Mount Everest of the haunted house movie. I loved the way that Kubrick had such control over the big sets he used, and how much big production value there was. I think people are getting used to horror subjects done as found footage or B-value budgets. I wanted this to feel like a throwback.”
The closest he would get to describing Crimson Peak is this, “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.”
Does this mean his adaptation of HP Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness is dead? Nope! He hopes to bring Legendary Pictures – who I’m assuming are very happy with Pacific Rim to have gone in on this project – onto that one in the future as well.
‘The Great Wall’ Being Built To Keep Supernatural Forces Out
Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) has joined Henry Cavill (Superman: Man Of Steel) and Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) in The Great Wall, to be directed by Ed Zwick (About Last Night, Blood Diamond). While the news of Walker’s casting comes hand in hand with the info that production on the film (to be shot in China and New Zealand) will be postponed due to weather, it also came with a new description of the film that may pique your interest.
“Set in 15th century China, The Great Wall is about British warriors who happen upon the hurried construction of the massive wall. As night falls, the warriors realize that the haste in building the wall isn’t just to keep out the Mongols — there is something inhuman and more dangerous.”
Reminds me a bit of the North wall in “Game Of Thrones”, but that’s not a bad thing. What do you think?
