5 MORE Horror Movies With Amazing Endings!!!

When it comes to endings, sometimes you’ve got to take the advice of Jesus (as played by Jerry Cantrell in Jerry Maguire) and hang your balls out there to be great. So while all of these endings are awesome, most of them aren’t exactly happy. It’s not that I’m against happy endings, but often they clash so harshly with the film’s overall tone and theme that you just know they’re tacked on compromises.

A few months ago I wrote a piece called 5 Horror Films With Amazing Endings and you guys had a lot to say on the matter. So I decided to incorporate some of your suggestions into the sequel, 5 MORE Horror Movies With Amazing Endings (there’s also 5 Horror Movies With Horrible Endings and 5 MORE Horror Movies With Horrible Endings if you’re feeling the hate)!

Head inside to check it out. And submit your comments for which amazing endings should make the next round! READ MORE

[Book Review] ‘Let Me In’ Author Disturbs With Provocative ‘Little Star’

Although some American movie studios are making an increased effort to release features simultaneously across the globe, there’s still a substantial “tape delay” when it comes to book releases. It’s frustrating to read an alleged John Ajvide Lindqvist tweet about turning Let Me In into a book series, while knowing that his well-received 2010 novel Little Star still hasn’t reached American shores. On Tuesday, October 2, Little Star finally gets the American hardcover release it deserves, and with this, his fourth novel, Lindqvist truly establishes himself as a horror heavyweight. Intermittently touching, disturbing, and horrifying, it’s as good a horror novel as I’ve read all year. And don’t get me started on his corker of an ending. The full review follows. READ MORE

We have heard your cries! MANY of you felt that the The Ultimate Horror Challenge wasn’t comprehensive enough! So we included an additional 20 films that round it out a bit more. Many of these are from your suggestions! But this still isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. And it still doesn’t contain every major work of every horror auteur (there’s still no John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left).

The next update will be the Ultimate Horror Challenge: Final Edition – where we take your best new suggestions and use them to get up to 101 films that every horror fan should see! Should we go back and pick up a few more old-school slashers? You’re shaping the Final 20! Discuss and vote and I’ll tally it up!

There are now 81 Films listed below the jump. Each film you’ve seen earns you 1 Point. Count out how many you’ve seen and let us know which category you fall into!

Take The Ultimate Horror Challenge!!! What’s Your Score?

This isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. Nor does it contain every major work of every horror auteur (you’ll notice we didn’t include John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). Rather, this is a compendium of films that we feel – in one way or another – are essential viewing for every horror fan. Some are mainstream (Poltergeist), some aren’t (Cannibal Holocaust). It’s a broad sampling of key films from the genre.

But you don’t have to be a horror die-hard to take the challenge! If you’re comfortable being a “Soccer Mom”, simply clock how many of these you have (or haven’t) seen and let us know! There are 61 Films listed below the jump. Each film you’ve seen earns you 1 Point. Count out how many you’ve seen and let us know which category you fall into. You can give us your specific count in the comments or yell at us for the films we’ve left out!! The categories are:

1-10 Points: Soccer Mom

11-20 Points: Mildly Adventurous

21-30 Points: Casual Fan

31-40 Points: Hardcore

41-50 Points: Unstable

51-60 Points: Psychopath

61 Points: Special Circle Of Hell

INTERVIEW: Marc Andreyko On Penning ‘Let Me In: Crossroads’

It is no easy feat to be able to take a story as lauded and respected amongst horror fans and critics alike such as “LET ME IN” (“LET THE RIGHT ONE IN”), and add your own spin to it. The original novel written by John Ajvide Lindqvist has now been adapted into two highly successful films, and thanks to Dark Horse Comics and writer Marc Andreyko the series has also made the leap from book, to film, to comics with “LET ME IN: CROSSROADS”. The series acts as a prequel to the Americanized remake of the Swedish masterpiece, and this week myself and Johnny_Trouble were fortunate enough to sit down with the series writer and talk to him about the four issue mini-series. REVIEW: ‘Let Me In’ Issue #4

Movie tie-ins always have that unfortunate aspect of having to adhere to the fundamentals of their source while attempting to recreate the experience through an entirely different medium. Let Me In: Crossroads is a four-part prequel to the vampire horror movie of last year which, itself, is an American remake of the Swedish film Let the Right One In. Being a prequel, this last issue of the miniseries is destined not to have quite the climax the movie does, but it provides some decent thrills and a classic horror ending. ‘Let the Right One In’ Author’s ‘Handing the Undead’ Get Big Screen Treatment

Another little gem hiding within a LA Times article reports that John Ajvide Lindqvist, the author of the novel on which vampire hit Let the Right One In was based (itself remade as the Chloe Moretz movie Let Me In), has another book; this one is about zombies and is called “Handling the Undead” (our review). They report that the rights will soon be shopped to U.S. studios. Expect news on feature plans in the coming months. “Undead” begins in Stockholm where the power grid has gone crazy. In the morgue and in cemeteries, the recently deceased are waking up. One grandfather is alight with hope that his grandson will be returned, but one husband is aghast at what his adored wife has become.

Dark Horse Let Fans In With Some Interior Artwork From The ‘Let Me In’ 4 Issue Mini

Well, even though the author may not be happy about the fact that his beloved (and nearly classic) vampire novel “LET THE RIGHT ONE IN” will be getting moved over into the comic book realm with added characters, back-story, and scenes, publisher Dark Horse doesn’t seem to be to worried (sigh) as they are pressing on with the series. The first arc will begin in October, and Comic Book Resources sat down with series scribe Marc Andreyko and Patric Reynolds to talk all things “LET ME IN”, and the duo even revealed some art to go along with the plethora of new info. For all the details and the photos make the jump. Read on for the skinny.

Oh Boy Here We Go, ‘Let The Right One In’ Author Not Pleased With Dark Horse’s Comic Book Plans

At C2E2 a few weeks back the news broke that publisher Dark Horse Comics had plans to release an all new graphic novel in concordance with the release of the Americanized remake of the fan favorite “LET THE RIGHT ONE IN”. (Renamed to “LET ME IN” here in the states) The title is, of course, based upon the award winning novel by John Ajvide Lindqvists of the same name, and one would think that in doing this the author would have been consulted before things moved forward. Well he wasn’t. And he’s not very pleased. Read on for the skinny.
