“American Horror Story: Asylum,” premiered tonight and I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet! Still, there’s a promo available for next week’s episode – “Tricks And Treats” – and it looks pretty cool. Things seem a little more intense than they did last year, and this teaser actually has me a little bit curious about catching up to tonight’s episode just so I can see what the hell is going on.

The new season is set at an East Coast asylum for the criminally insane in 1964 and revolves around Jessica Lange’s new character — a nun — and her boss at the institution, played by James Cromwell. Clea Duvall, Chris Zylka, Joseph Fiennes, Chloe Sevigny, The Voice’s Adam Levine, Mark Consuelos and newcomer Lizzie Brochere round out the cast. Other returning cast members set to play new roles include Sarah Paulson, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe.

It’s been an absolutely insane post-holiday news explosion, so we’re rounding up some fresh TV stories in this edition of News Bites.

Showtime has released a 4-minute long featurette that goes behind-the-scenes of “Dexter” Season 7, which premieres September 30. Here’s the synopsis for Episode 7.01: “Are You….?” “After witnessing her brother kill Travis Marshall, Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) attempts to reconcile with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) while struggling to cover up their involvement with the murder. Meanwhile, Detective Mike Anderson has an unfortunate run-in, Quinn and Batista begin to make amends, and LaGuerta finds evidence that causes her to re-think the closed Bay Harbor Butcher case.”

The team behind AMC released a Social Network-style one-sheet for “The Walking Dead that celebrates their 10 million fans. In Season 3, premiering October 24, “Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and company will face a brand new threat – one that is very much human. While Rick and the gang are busy clearing out a prison in the hopes of transforming it into a protective fortress, not so far away is the town of Woodbury, Georgia, and its self-appointed leader, the Governor (David Morrissey).”

The upcoming second season/installment of FX’s horror series/miniseries “American Horror Story” will be titled “American Horror Story: Asylum,” co-creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy announced today, reports DL.

Set in 1964, “American Horror Story: Asylum” stars Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Zachary Quinto, James Cromwell, and Joseph Fiennes.

Principal photography on “AHS: Asylum” started on July 17 for an October premiere.

“We picked ‘Asylum’ because it not only describes the setting – an insane asylum run by Jessica Lange’s character which was formerly a tuberculosis ward – but also signifies a place of haven for the unloved and the unwanted,” Murphy said. “This year’s theme is about sanity and tackling real life horrors.”

Clea Duvall (Identity, The Faculty, The Grudge) is headed to Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s “American Horror Story“ asylum.

THR reports that the actress, who starred on the short-lived HBO drama “Carnivale,” has booked a multiple-episode role on the rebooted second season of “American Horror Story.”

Set at an East Coast asylum for the criminally insane, the upcoming season revolves around Jessica Lange’s new character — a nun — and her boss at the institution, played by James Cromwell.

Details on Duvall’s role, like many others for the new round of “Horror Story,” are being kept under wraps but she’s expected to share scenes opposite returning cast member Sarah Paulson.

Season 2 of FX’s “American Horror Story“ begins production this week, but it looks like they are still adding folks to the asylum.

Former “All My Children” star Mark Consuelos (pictured below) is joining “AHS” as a patient named Spivey.

Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe — who in Season 1 played Constance, Chad, Tate, psychic Billie Dean and doctor’s wife Nora — are all set to return but as different characters. New cast members include Chloe Sevigny, Adam Levine, Lizzie Brochere, Joseph Fiennes and James Cromwell.

Bradley Buecker will be returning to the series and will direct both episodes 201 and 202. Tim Minear scripted the season premiere, while Final Destination, Black Christmas and “X-Files”‘ James Wong takes on episode 202.

The new season takes place in a 1960′s mental hospital, said show creator Ryan Murphy back in May. READ MORE

Some brief news, but exciting for those who have yet to catch FX’s absolutely fantastic horror anthology “American Horror Story“ when it premiered.

Gearing up for the second season, the first season will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray September 25. Specs are forthcoming, but I can only assume they’ll be epic.

In the series, “A family of three move from Boston to Los Angeles as a means of reconciling their past anguish. Some more details about the second season of “American Horror Story” are beginning to emerge. We already knew that Jessica Lange, Joseph Fiennes, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Adam Levine, Lizzie Brochere, Chloe Sevigny and James Cromwell has all been locked in, with the returning cast playing new roles. Murphy had also disclosed that the season would be “set in an institution for the criminally insane.” Fiennes’ character runs said institution where Jessica Lange works and will also be the object of her attraction as it’s been stated that “the pair have a May/December romance.”

Writer Tim Minear told MTV, “she’s playing something that’s a little more East Coast, a little more patrician. She’s playing a nun. In this instance, she’s a bride of Christ.” Conflict I guess!

Murphy has been talking a lot about how this season will be different from the last. He previously stated “I don’t want to say what Zach and Lily are doing, or what anybody else is doing, until we get closer to [fall]. But I’ll continue to say that everybody is playing the opposite of what they played last year, which I think is why they’re all so into it. “American Horror Story“ apparently isn’t done populating the asylum at the center of its upcoming second season.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Britne Oldford, best known for her role as moody, pill-popping Cadie in MTV’s “Skins,” is joining the FX hit in the recurring role of Alma. A description of Alma was not made available, but conventional wisdom points to her being one of the patients holed up at the institution for the criminally insane run by Jessica Lange.

Other new faces on tap for Season 2 of the FX hit include “Big Love”‘s Chloe Sevigny, “The Voice”‘s Adam Levine, French actress Lizzie Brochere, “FlashForward”‘s Joseph Fiennes and Oscar nominee James Cromwell, while Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe — who in Season 1 played Constance, Chad, Tate, psychic Billie Dean and doctor’s wife Nora — are all set to return but as different characters.

“American Horror Story” show creator Ryan Murphy has been getting a bit more giddy in public about the secrets he has in store for the upcoming season of the hit show. Even though he’s not really giving anything away, he’s definitely doing a good job of selling the concept. I have to say, I’m kind of intrigued by the narrative freedom that might be afforded by transporting the main cast into brand new characters in a brand new setting.

We already knew that Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Adam Levine, Lizzie Brochere, Chloe Sevigny and James Cromwell have all been locked in, with the returning cast playing new roles. And Murphy had also disclosed that the season would be “set in an institution for the criminally insane that Jessica Lange’s character runs.”

Murphy now tells TV Line, “I don’t want to say what Zach and Lily are doing, or what anybody else is doing, until we get closer to [fall]. But I’ll continue to say that everybody is playing the opposite of what they played last year, which I think is why they’re all so into it. Like, I have talked to Zach and Jessica and they were very excited… and that’s a rare thing.” But in keeping with the “opposite” theme, does that mean Peters, who in Season 1 played the rather evil Tate, will be the new chapter’s hero? “Knowing me it will be the anti-hero,” Murphy teases. “It won’t be what you expect.”

Some fresh “American Horror Story“ casting comes via TVLine who writes after an exhaustive search that spanned multiple continents, French actress Lizzie Brocheré has won the pivotal new series regular role on the FX thriller.

Last month, “AHS” producers put out a casting call for a femme fatale named “Gia.” Described as a fierce, ferocious, extremely sexual and dangerous wild-child sexpot, the character — billed as a nemesis for Jessica Lange — was likened to Angelina Jolie in Girl, Interrupted.

According to an insider, Brocheré — known in France for her decidedly NC-17-rated film work(!) — will be playing a revamped version of that role. “The part been changed considerably,” says the source, who declined to provide specifics of the revamp. Too bad FX is a family network; maybe we’ll get a heavy dosage of side-boob? (Or, you could just search for her on Google, turning safe search “off”.)

Little is known about “AHS” Season 2, save for that it will be set on the East Coast and bring back Jessica Lange (who originally played Constance), Zachary Quinto (Chad), Evan Peters (Tate), Sarah Paulson (psychic Billie Dean) and Lily Rabe (doctor’s wife Nora), all as new characters. Maroon 5 frontman and Voice coach Adam Levine will also appear in an arc as one half of a couple referred to as “The Lovers.”

TV: Another Trio Check Into American Horror Story Institute!

“American Horror Story“ co-creator Ryan Murphy announced tonight at PaleyFest that Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe will join Zachary Quinto and Jessica Lange to play completely new characters in the sophomore season of the FX horror anthology series.

Says THR, Season 2 will shift from the creepy Los Angeles haunted mansion to an East Coast “horror institution,” with SAG and Golden Globe award winner Jessica Lange (who co-starred as the all-knowing nosy next door neighbor Constance) and Zachary Quinto (who recurred as a ghost trapped in the house) previously confirmed to return.

Peters co-starred as a mass-murderer-turned-ghost stuck in the house Tate Langdon, while Paulson had a more limited run as medium Billie Dean — who in the penultimate “Birth” episode explained to Violet (Farmiga) that the house had a paramagnetic grip — like a battery, with negative energy that feeds on trauma and draws things to it. Rabe played Nora Montgomery, one of the original owners of the house at the center of the series.

After 10 episodes, I still don’t now what I am looking for in “American Horror Story”, and that isn’t something I am used to while watching TV.

Starting out, I was expecting some cheap, gory thrills – a nice little break from my weekly line up of sitcoms and dramas. As the show progressed, I started getting more and more invested in this cast of morally grey monsters, and it became about them. I wanted to see all of these characters moving on or being happy or getting punished for their wrong doings. There was an exceptional amount of emotional investment on my part that came completely unexpectedly to me.

TV: American Horror Story Recap Episode 01.06

For weeks now, there has been a huge build up among “American Horror Story’s”" younger female viewers about the origins of Tate Langdon; resident heartthrob and mass murderer. Okay fine, so maybe I was really excited about this episode too. Crazy or not, you can’t help but have a certain affection for this kid, who sort of acts as a scrappy mascot for the show, and provides some of the more intense and emotional scenes the series has to offer. So this is the Tate episode primarily. Keep that in mind. All things Tate are revealed here. For 40 something minutes, the Harmon’s take a backseat, and we fill a much needed knowledge gap.

Ryan Murphy described the first 15 minutes of 1×6 as “disturbing”, and he managed to deliver his promise quite effectively. It’s 1994, and a group of diverse teens are hulled up in a library after hearing gunshots outside. They are the same teens that approached Tate in the last episode, so right away, you know that no matter how well they manage to defend themselves, their fate is sealed. Watching the students waiting to die and slowly being shot is, in my opinion, a million times more unsettling than any ghost or monster this show has managed to produced so far. the coldness of these executions is beyond brutal, reminding us that human beings at their ugliest are capable of things truly fit for horror pictures.

Once Tate gets home, he is instantly ambushed by the police and shot to death. READ MORE

TV: American Horror Story Recap Episode 01.05

There comes a time every few years when a series rolls around that sets up a web of mysteries and secrets that leave you more or less banging your head against a wall. We are attracted to these stories regardless of how revealing they ultimately are because they are essentially a perpetual cliffhanger. An addicting drug that leaves you craving for more.

Thankfully, not all episodes need to create more questions. This week’s instillment of “American Horror Story” did just the opposite, giving us juicy bits of sweet closure to questions we have been asking since the pilot.

In the last episode, the Harmon’s had rushed home after getting a distress call from their daughter. When they got there, she was missing, and we were left to believe that she had been brutalized by one of the many things that night that had the intention of hurting her. As it turns out, she had followed up on her date with Tate (there was no way around that guys), and had simply left the house on her own. Rather than pulling the TV trick where everyone is looking for the runaway kid and assuming the worst, Violet is responsible and calls her mom. She of course, doesn’t say she is with Tate, but lets her know that she is spending time with friends and that she is safe. Well it’s good that she is half honest anyway. READ MORE

TV: American Horror Story Recap Episode 01.04

Leave it to American Horror Story to remind us that even in a bad economy and a time of social unrest, we can take comfort in the fact that we don’t live in a house with countless numbers of homicidal ghosts. American Horror Story’s fourth episode is Halloween inspired, but unlike many of the other shows aiming for a holiday theme, it’s story remains relevant to the main plot line. No matter what, this show is always going to be twisted and creepy, but last night’s episode had a slight added playfulness to it. There were even a few jokes peppered into all of that gloom. To add to the fun, Zachary Quinto makes a guest appearance as Chad, one of the men that lived in the house before the Harmons. We are finally given some background on these characters, whom had previously only been briefly mentioned in past episodes.

The show opens with a domestic dispute between this couple. Their background has an eerie similarity to Vivian and Ben’s. Patrick is a cheater who feels like his relationship has more or less gone down the toilet, and that the intimacy in his relationship is gone. Chad is sitting back silently and trying to hold the family together. All of their assets are in the house, and because of the economy, they are stuck there. It’s always interesting seeing gay couples being portrayed on TV because for a lot of writing staffs, they are something of an anomaly. Gay characters are “hip” these days, but actually seeing a couple in a domestic setting that doesn’t scream “Modern Family” is refreshing; even if they aren’t in a happy relationship. READ MORE

Sources tell E! that “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy has written a role expressly for the daughter of an iconic actress in his upcoming FX series “American Horror Story” — and she’ll share an “ungodly connection” with Connie Britton.

Lily Rabe, daughter of the late great Jill Clayburgh, is joining the cast for six episodes. Lily is a Broadway and TV actress, having starred in Steel Magnolias and “Medium” and, in a way, she is following in her mother’s footsteps. Jill, who passed away in November, counted among her many TV and movie projects “Nip/Tuck” (also from Ryan Murphy) and “The Practice” (with AHS star Dylan McDermott).

Lily will play the original owner of the haunted house that Connie and Dylan move into, and her story will be told in 1920s-era flashbacks. Sources who work on the show say she’s fantastically creeptastic in this new role, and there will be a cool and unexpected reveal regarding that aforementioned “ungodly connection” to Connie.
