In a recent interview with Game Informer, horror director John Carpenter (The Thing, Halloween, I’m sure you’re already very familiar with him) revealed that he’d like to bring EA’s action horror franchise Dead Space to the big screen. He spoke specifically about the first game, saying “I maintain that Dead Space would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut-down space ship and they have to start it up and something’s on board. It’s just great stuff.”
“The first game was more – I guess it was like Alien – but not quite. It was a little different than that.” he continued. The original Dead Space was released in 2008 and set on the Necromorph infested USG Ishimura, a spaceship used to crack asteroids and harvest the precious resources within them.
Haven’t you heard? Dead Island: Riptide is out, and it’s pretty good. If you haven’t gone out and grabbed a copy, this fan film should tide you over until you do. It’s called Dead Island: No Retreat, and it’s the work of Youtuber pwnisher. It also features Youtube celebrity Toby Turner, better known as Tobuscus, and without spoiling anything, it most definitely has an ending worthy of the series’ name.
This live-action Dead Space film — not to be confused with our short-lived April Fool’s joke — is the work of Youtuber Eric Zaragoza. It’s short, sweet, and slickly produced, especially for a fan film. Zaragoza has also teased his next project, which could be another Dead Space film or something Dark Souls related. Personally, I’d really like to see what he’d do with the latter.
If you have a craving for strategic dismemberment and about four minutes to spare, I suggest grabbing some popcorn and enjoying this awesome short film.
I don’t know about you guys but I can’t wait for Darksiders II. I finally got around to playing the 1st game several months back and I loved the hell out of it. I may have said it before but it looks like there’s going to be a III, IV, and I’m hoping for a HUGE 4 player co-op extravaganza for the 5th game. Past the break you can check out a pretty kick ass live action trailer featuring James Cosmo from the incredibly popular Game Of Thrones tv series on HBO.
I wrote an article for this and it got deleted. Now I’m mad. Video past the break.
I would love to see an awesome Mass Effect movie. In fact it’s been a while since I’ve seen a good video game movie, someone needs to deliver one to my eyeballs. I heard the Uncharted movie was scrapped. PHEW. Dodged that Mark Wahlberg disasterpiece. Trailers like the one below, and the incredible Halo: Reach live action trailer show us that it is entirely possible to make an epic and amazing video game movie. I just don’t understand why it isn’t happening.
