Looper is centered on a group of killers who send bodies of their victims back in time.
The 8th annual Fantastic Fest has passed the halfway point of its 8-day reign of chaos in Austin, Texas. The sci/fi, fantasy, martial arts, Asian fantastic, and horror film festival offers up a little something for all genre lovers.
It is my duty to bring you the most horror and/or horror-related film reviews possible. With less than 20 feature films considered to be true horror, I will occasionally spotlight other non-horror films that will, hopefully, appeal to our readers here at Bloody Disgusting.
Be sure to be on the lookout in Austin, Texas from October 25-27, 2013, for my very own Housecore Horror Film Festival. I will be joined by my partner, former Pantera lead singer and heavy metal legend Philip H. Anselmo. We will be bringing 100% horror and heavy metal to the Lone Star state!
On Friday the 13th Sony Pictures took to Hall H to share three upcoming titles with San Diego Comic-Con attendees – one of which blew the roof off the place.
Stars Matt Damon (pictured) and Jodie Foster joined director Neill Blomkamp and producer Simon Kinberg on stage to share the insanely gory first footage from Elysium. Inside you’ll find Evan Dickson’s report from the panel alongside video interviews with all four attendees!
The panel also focused on two other genre titles, the forthcoming Len Wiseman-directed Total Recall (in theaters August 3) and Rian Johnson’s insane time travel thriller Looper (September 28), starring Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt.
Dickson recaps the footage and panel presentation inside. READ MORE
ARC Entertainment has acquired the rights to former development exec Andrew Hyatt‘s The Frozen, which stars Brit Morgan (pictured inside; “True Blood”), Noah Segan (the amazing looking Looper) and Seth David Mitchell, per Deadline.
In the film, “Mike (Mitchell) and Emma (Morgan) take an ill-advised winter camping trip and get stranded in the woods after a snowmobile accident. When he disappears, she is left on her own not only to battle the elements, but elude a mysterious man (Segan) who has been tracking her through the forest.”
International rights on the film are represented by Roman Kopelevich’s Red Sea Media. No word yet on a US release date. READ MORE
Alex and David Pastor, who wrote the viral pandemic film Carriers are returning with the thriller Selfless. It’s got a cool concept that’s teetering on horror so we’re gonna keep our eye on it until we can assess if it qualifies for coverage. Endgame Entertainment and FilmDistrict, who are coming off of the amazing looking Rian Johnson film Looper, have teamed up to produce.
Per Variety, “Endgame Entertainment and FilmDistrict will co-finance thriller ‘Selfless,’ jointly acquiring the screenplay by Alex Pastor and David Pastor (‘Carriers’).”
The film, “centers on a wealthy older man who discovers he’s dying and pays to have his mind transplanted into a younger man’s body. When he discovers how his new body was acquired, he defies the company who provided it and is hunted by armed mercenaries.”
Sounds like it has some elements of Repo and could be ripe for some Cronenbergian imagery. What do you think?
As featured in our 2012 horror preview for Sony Pictures, we’ve just now landed the first ever look at Looper, a behind-the-scenes pic that features director Rian Johnson sitting in a time machine. Can you say “awesome”?
“‘Looper’ is a time-travel action thriller involves a killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who works for the mob of the future. He, along with other so-called Loopers, dispose of people that are sent from the future. When he recognizes one victim as his future self (Bruce Willis), he hesitates, letting the man escape.”
In theaters September 28, Paul Dano, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Noah Segan and Jeff Daniels all star. READ MORE
We’re being told that genre fav Noah Segan (Cabin Fever 2, Chain Letter, Undocumented, Deadgirl), along with Jeff Daniels has joined the high profile cast of Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood), Bruce Willis (The Sixth Sense), Emily Blunt (The Wolfman) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) in the very interesting sounding the time-travel thriller Looper. Rian Johnson (The Brothers Bloom, Brick) is directing from his own script. Looper is centered on a group of killers who send bodies of their victims back in time. An intriguing plot that has me asking 20 questions. Endgame is fully financing “Looper,” scheduled to begin production in Louisiana next year.
