[Fantastic Fest '12] Corey Mitchell’s Mini-Reviews: Day 4 – ‘Room 237,’ ‘Henge/The Big Gun,’ ‘Wrong,’ ‘Looper,’ ‘The American Scream,’ & ‘Tower Block’

The 8th annual Fantastic Fest has passed the halfway point of its 8-day reign of chaos in Austin, Texas. The sci/fi, fantasy, martial arts, Asian fantastic, and horror film festival offers up a little something for all genre lovers.

It is my duty to bring you the most horror and/or horror-related film reviews possible. With less than 20 feature films considered to be true horror, I will occasionally spotlight other non-horror films that will, hopefully, appeal to our readers here at Bloody Disgusting.

Be sure to be on the lookout in Austin, Texas from October 25-27, 2013, for my very own Housecore Horror Film Festival. I will be joined by my partner, former Pantera lead singer and heavy metal legend Philip H. Anselmo. We will be bringing 100% horror and heavy metal to the Lone Star state!

Check out Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 for more Fantastic Fest reviews! READ MORE

The Writers Of ‘Carriers’ Are About To Get All ‘Selfless’ On You

Alex and David Pastor, who wrote the viral pandemic film Carriers are returning with the thriller Selfless. It’s got a cool concept that’s teetering on horror so we’re gonna keep our eye on it until we can assess if it qualifies for coverage. Endgame Entertainment and FilmDistrict, who are coming off of the amazing looking Rian Johnson film Looper, have teamed up to produce.

Per Variety, “Endgame Entertainment and FilmDistrict will co-finance thriller ‘Selfless,’ jointly acquiring the screenplay by Alex Pastor and David Pastor (‘Carriers’).

The film, “centers on a wealthy older man who discovers he’s dying and pays to have his mind transplanted into a younger man’s body. When he discovers how his new body was acquired, he defies the company who provided it and is hunted by armed mercenaries.

Sounds like it has some elements of Repo and could be ripe for some Cronenbergian imagery. What do you think?

He, along with other so-called Loopers, dispose of people that are sent from the future. When he recognizes one victim as his future self (Bruce Willis), he hesitates, letting the man escape.

In theaters September 28, Paul Dano, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Noah Segan and Jeff Daniels all star. READ MORE

Genre Fav Noah Segan Joins High Profile Cast in ‘Looper’

We’re being told that genre fav Noah Segan (Cabin Fever 2, Chain Letter, Undocumented, Deadgirl), along with Jeff Daniels has joined the high profile cast of Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood), Bruce Willis (The Sixth Sense), Emily Blunt (The Wolfman) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) in the very interesting sounding the time-travel thriller Looper. Rian Johnson (The Brothers Bloom, Brick) is directing from his own script. Looper is centered on a group of killers who send bodies of their victims back in time. An intriguing plot that has me asking 20 questions. Endgame is fully financing “Looper,” scheduled to begin production in Louisiana next year.
