Yesterday I hopped on the phone with the film’s star, Luke Evans (The Raven, Fast & Furious 6), and we talked about the preparation required to play a man so effective of killing he’s able to wipe out a gang of violent killers in gloriously messy fashion. We also discussed the most difficult kill of the movie (hint: it was yesterday’s clip) and the status of The Crow.

Dominic Cooper Can’t Get Enough Vampires, Joins Up With ‘Dracula’
Universal’s Dracula (formerly Year Zero), has added Dominic Cooper to the cast (pictured above; Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dead Man Down), Variety reports. It’s not yet known what role he’ll be playing.
Pic stars Fast & Furious 6‘s Luke Evans and Sarah Gadon. Gary Shore is directing and Michael De Luca producing.
“The story is a mix of mythology and history as it follows the story of Prince Vlad, the inspiration for the Dracula character popularized by the Bram Stoker novel.”
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the latest draft of the script. VP of production Anikah McLaren and creative executive Jay Polidoro will oversee the project for Universal.
The film is moving fast with Universal giving it the greenlight and slating it for an Aug. 8, 2014 release.

I just got off the phone with Luke Evans (pictured above; The Raven), whose insanely bloody Ryhuhei Kitamura directed slasher No One Lives hits May 10th from Anchor Bay.
While I’ll be posting the entirety of the interview tomorrow, I wanted to share a quick aside regarding the Relativity and the Weinstein Company reboot of The Crow that Evans is currently in talks for. In the original film, a man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder.

Mr. Disgusting wasn’t fan (read his review), but I sort of admired the film for it s sense of fun and its sheer brutality. This new clip is a pretty good example. If you kill a big guy like Brodus Clay, you can play TaunTaun with him!

Eric Draven Is An Invisible Bible Quoting Cop In ‘The Crow’ Remake?
Hot on the heels of the the news that Relativity and the Weinstein Company have cast Luke Evans (No One Lives, the upcoming Dracula prequel) to play Eric Draven in their reboot of The Crow, a script review has hit the net. And it’s not pretty.
Latino Review got their hands on the latest draft, and they’ve posted a thoughtful video review of it. And – despite pretty much hating it – they play fair, only reviewing the basis/conceit without going into any actual plot spoilers. It also seems like Da7e, who authored the piece, has a genuine affection for the material and posted his review as a warning shot saying, “there’s time to fix this. Please do.”
For one, they apparently throw in the kitchen sink with healing and ghost powers. Plus, Eric Draven is now a bible quoting police officer (not a rock musician) who has to paint his face because he’s invisible? The basic gist of the review is that the current draft is beyond saving and a page 1 rewrite is needed. Granted, I haven’t read it, but this assessment is fairly convincing.

Okay, So Now Luke Evans Is The ‘The Crow’
Forget those talks with Alexander Skarskard and Tom Hiddlseton. Relativity and the Weinstein Company have apparently settled on Luke Evans (pictured above; No One Lives, the upcoming Dracula prequel) to play Eric Draven in their reboot of The Crow.
The adaptation of James O’Barr’s comics has had a tough time finding its leading man, after talks with multiple actors have fallen apart in recent weeks. Ultimately director Javier Gutierrez will push the start date of production to make this happen. Per Deadline, “Evans seemed to be unavailable because of production on ‘Dracula’ and promotion on ‘The Hobbit.’ The distributor looked at Tom Hiddleston and more recently Alexander Skarsgard, the latter of whom has a bunch of offers after Warner Bros halted ‘Tarzan.’ Ultimately, they have decided to push the start date to early next year to accommodate his schedule in order to secure Evans.”

Universal’s ‘Dracula’ Coming Sooner Than Expected
Universal Pictures’ Dracula, which will be directed by Gary Shore and start shooting shortly, now has a release date of August 8, 2014. Luke Evans (The Raven) stars and, on the heels of this date, we can expect to start seing a bunch of casting info come our way soon.

‘Dracula Year Zero’ Actually Getting Made With Luke Evans Starring, But Now It’s Just ‘Dracula’
Update: Apparently now it’s just called Dracula.
The last time we wrote about Universal Pictures’ Dracula (aka Dracula Year Zero) was well voer a year ago when commercial helmer Gary Shore was in negotiations to direct the film. He’s still onboard (remarkable, actually – for a film in this kind if development) and now the movie has a lead in Luke Evans (The Raven), per THR. Even bigger news? The film has a green light and the project will start shooting this year!

We’ve landed a trio of new one-sheets beginning with an international stitched up look at WWE’s awful No One Lives (read our review), acquired by Anchor Bay Films for release later this year. In the film, “A ruthless criminal gang takes a young couple hostage and goes to ground in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. When the captive girl is killed, the tables are unexpectedly turned. The gang finds itself outsmarted by an urbane and seasoned killer determined to ensure that no one lives.” Midnight Meat Train‘s Ryuhei Kitamura directs.
Then there’s the UK quad for The Last Exorcism Part II, in theaters March 1 from CBS Films. “Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found alone and terrified in the woods. Back in the relative safety of civilization, Nell realizes that she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Anchor Bay Picks Up ‘No One Lives’
WWE’s No One Lives from director Ryuhei Kitamura (Midnight Meat Train) has been acquired by Anchor Bay, per Variety.
In the film, “A ruthless criminal gang takes a young couple hostage and goes to ground in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. When the captive girl is killed, the tables are unexpectedly turned. The gang finds itself outsmarted by an urbane and seasoned killer determined to ensure that no one lives.”
“‘No One Lives’ is a unique horror film that we know audiences are going to love,” said Kevin Kasha, executive VP of acquisitions and co-productions at Anchor Bay. “We’re pleased to be working with the team at WWE Studios again as well as their co-producers at Pathe.”
No word yet on a release date.
