There are few things that get me excited…for a movie. Seeing “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara with a machine gun bra is definitely one of them.

Check out this new poster for Machete Kills, courtesy of EW, which shows Vergara as Desdemona, machin bra rockin’ hottie from the Robert Rodriguez-directed Grindhouse sequel.

In theaters September 13 from Open Road, here’s a hi-res look at the first ever image from Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills featuring sexy starlette Amber Heard atop of Danny Trejo as the film’s title character. MTV talked to Rodriguez about the sequel, explaining why Lindsay Lohan didn’t return as the gun-toting April, “We thought to bring her back because we like that character, but it didn’t fit into the story.” He also talks about the next film, Machete Kills Again in Space, “[W]e’ll have to see what happens in this one. There are some cliffhangers. It’s gotta end in a very ‘Empire Strikes Back’ way. You gotta want to know what happens to everybody.”

Producers Looking to Kill ‘Machete Kills’

Overnight Productions today said it wants to cut ties with Robert Rodriguez’s Quick Draw Productions over the rights to Machete Kills, says Deadline.

If successful, the court action could stop the release of the film – which Open Road acquired for distribution from Quick Draw last month. The complaint filed Tuesday (read it here), the producers of 2010’s Machete are seeking to terminate the April 2012 agreement in which they granted director/producer Rodriguez the rights to make another action movie about the rogue Mexican Federale. The rights would revert back to Rick Schwartz’s Overnight. The plaintiffs are seeking $2 million in damages.

Overnight claims that earlier this month they were not provided with Texas tax credit information as required under the agreement with Rodriguez’s company. And then there is the matter of Schwartz’s fee. “Defendants have also failed and refused to provide the required budget information to Overnight Productions so that it can determine the producer fee owed with respect to the sequel”. The plaintiffs estimate that they are owed in excess of $250,000 in this aspect of their legal action.

Starring Danny Trejo again in the title role with Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez – who were also in the original – Machete Kills features appearances by Charlie Sheen as the President of the United States, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Lady Gaga and Mel Gibson. The sequel is the second in what it is supposed to be a trilogy, according to director Rodriguez. Machete Kills is expected to be released in the spring of 2013.

In addition to Danny Trejo the film stars Lady Gaga, Vanessa Hudgens, Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, William Sadler, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan and Electra Avellan. Oh and Alexa Vega. Yeah we posted a somewhat frisky pic of her a few months back and now we’ve got an even more… revealing… look at her character. The pic originally comes from Rolling Stone (via Collider).

Samuel Jackson Tortured In ‘Oldboy,’ While ‘Machete Kills Martial Arts Action Star

Marko Zaror (pictured below), an international martial arts action star, just finished filming Machete Kills, the sequel to Robert Rodriguez’s cult favorite Machete, Twitch was the first to learn. Zaror joins an all-star ensemble cast, including Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara, and Jessica Alba. Zaror, dubbed the Bruce Lee of Latin America, is cast as Zaror (which happens to be his real last name), henchman to Mel Gibson’s villainous character.

In other brief casting news, the LA Times reports that Samuel Jackson (above) and Bruce Hornsby have joined the cast of the English-language remake of Chan-wook Park’s cult favorite Oldboy. Jackson will play the man who is being tortured by the hero (Josh Brolin) in a key revenge scene. Fans of the original will remember the scene as perhaps the most visceral and disturbing of the film. Protagonist Dae-su Oh exacts vengeance on a man who once guarded him by extracting his teeth one-by-one with the claw end of a hammer. The new film, which begins shooting this fall in Louisiana and New York, won’t go with the tooth removal, instead inflicting a different kind of torture, says the mag.

The duo star alongside Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley in the Spike Lee-directed thriller. In the 2003 Korean original, a man gets kidnapped and held in a shabby cell for 15 years without explanation. Suddenly, he’s released and given money, a cell phone and clothes and is set on a path to discover who destroyed his life so he can take revenge. READ MORE

It’s been confirmed this evening that Vanessa Hudgens (pictured; Sucker Punch) is on set filming for Robert Rodriguez’ Machete Kills, which also stars Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan, Electra Avellan, William Sadler, Lady Gaga and Alexa Vega (wewwww). “The sequel finds the titular ex-federale (Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico’s leading cartel dealer.”

Brendan Fraser will star in writer-director Damian Lee’s action-thriller Split Decision for Rollercoaster Entertainment and Vortex Words + Pictures, says THR. Fraser plays a father who must defend his two children from a pair of murderers. “The plot kicks off when two children (Holly Deveaux and Christian Martin) witness a murder while on a wilderness camping trip with a family friend (Daniel Kash). When two criminal brothers, (Dominic Purcell and Ethan Suplee) start to hunt down the children to silence them, Fraser’s father-figure sets out to rescue them.” Amy Price-Francis appears as the children’s mother. Principal photography begins shortly on location in Ontario.

The site also reports that Kevin Zegers has signed on to join Harald Zwart’s fantasy epic The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones for Constantin Film and Screen Gems. Zegers will play Alec Lightwood, a reluctant Shadowhunter who would rather read about demons than fight them. Lily Collins stars in the film, based on Cassandra Clare’s mega-bestseller. Zegers joins a cast that also includes Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey and Jared Harris. “Set in modern-day New York, the plot centers on Clary Fray (Collins), who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret tribe of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect the world from demons.” Mortal Instruments is scheduled to begin shooting this month in Toronto.

After directing the acclaimed documentaries Deliver Us From Evil and West of Memphis, Amy Berg is set to make her narrative helming debut with Every Secret Thing, a feature adaptation of Laura Lippman’s 2004 mystery novel that will star Diane Lane, reports Variety. Nicole Holofcener wrote the script that “Follows two 11-year-old girls who are convicted of murdering a baby and incarcerated until they turn 18. Upon their release, children start to go missing; as the police turn their attention to the duo, the mystery surrounding the original murder takes the fore.” Lane is attached to play one of the girls’ mother, who has long known that her daughter is a gifted liar.

Robert Rodriguez’s sequel Machete Kills is enlisting more girl power for its star-studded ensemble, as the helmer’s twin nieces, Electra and Elise Avellan, are set to reprise their roles from the original Mexploitation movie, says Variety. The Avellans previously played the Crazy Babysitter Twins in Rodriguez’s Grindhouse entry “Planet Terror” as well as Quentin Tarantino’s “Death Proof.”

The Avellan sisters will once again be playing bad-ass nurses Mona and Lisa. They join fellow femme fatales Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Amber Heard and Sofia Vergara.

Wow. Half of me feels like this is a crass, TMZ style approach to casting – and the other half of me can’t wait to see this movie (even though I didn’t like the first one). Charlie Sheen (Wall Street, Platoon “Two And A Half Men”) has been cast as the U.S. President in Machete Kills, the sequel to Robert Rodriguez’ Machete. Earlier today he admitted that his meltdown last year was brought on by a psychotic break, so you have to wonder if him diving into this role along with his new series “Anger Management” is a good idea for him personally. Either way, between him and Mel Gibson Machete Kills is certainly making some brave casting choices.

Rodriguez took to his Twitter account just moments ago saying, “I just cast Charlie Sheen in ‪#machetekills‬ as the President of the United States! Who better? More soon…”

In a brief interview with Moviehole, Danny Trejo reveals that he’ll also be starring alongside Zoe Saldana (who played the sexy blue alien Neytiri in Avatar, and also was a prominent character in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek) in Machete Kills, Robert Rodriguez’ sequel that will also feature Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard and Sofia Vergara.

“The sequel…is going to be a lot more over-the-top than ‘Machete,’” says Trejo adding a bit about the character’s infinite mojo. “We’ve got Sofia Vergara, who is a star in her own right, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, and Zoe Saldana – and guess what? I get to kiss all of ‘em.”

He also jokes that if Rodriguez wants Trejo to return for a third Machete he expect to land a role in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Some fresh sales art has been produced for two forthcoming Robert Rodriguez titles, with the first being a new poster for Machete Kills, the sequel that stars Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard and Sofia Vergara.

Being released through Twentieth Century Fox once again, “The sequel finds the titular ex-federale (Danny Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico’s leading cartel dealer. Mel Gibson is set to co-star as Luther Voz, a cunning arms dealer and death merchant who aims to spread war across the planet by launching a missile. Also unveiled is a one-sheet for the hotly anticipated Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, which comes once again from Frank Miller and Rodriguez. It’s official as Michelle Rodriguez (Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Retribution, Battle: Los Angeles) is officially set to reprise her role in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills, says Variety.

Machete Kills, which starts production this month in Texas, “Finds the titular ex-federale (Danny Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico’s leading cartel dealer. Mel Gibson is set to co-star as Luther Voz, a cunning arms dealer and death merchant who aims to spread war across the planet by launching a missile.” Jessica Alba is also expected to return for the sequel, which will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.

Robert Rodriguez hopes to fully direct Machete Kills, based on his faux trailer included in Dimension’s 2007 Grindhouse. READ MORE

I know we just posted a Machete Kills story about an hour ago, but this is totally worth its own piece.

Even though Mel Gibson is one of the biggest turds in Hollywood history, the psychopath is one hell of an actor (maybe the madness spawns the brilliance?). Thus, having him return to his action-packed roots is nothing short of exhilarating. Deadline reports that Gibson is now in serious discussions to play a supporting role in Machete Kills, the Robert Rodriguez-directed sequel that will bring Danny Trejo back as the blade wielding former Federale title character. Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez are still in talks to return as well.

The 2010 film starred Danny Trejo as Machete, a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, and is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator. In the sequel to be released by Fox, “Machete is drafted by the US government to track an arms dealer through Mexico before he can launch a rocket.” READ MORE
