Madison County is about a group of college kids that travel to a remote, mountain town called Madison County to interview the author of a tell-all book on the accounts of the grisly murders that happened in the town over two decades ago. [Special Feature] Psychology and Horror: ‘Madison County’. The Rise of Damien Ewell

Written By: Joseph Forsberg

If you’re there, you’re already dead!

There are an estimated 100 active serial killers in the United States; Madison County is the home of one of the most dangerous. Damien Ewell is pure evil; this beast inside the shell of a man has no conscience, and is driven by uncontrollable impulses and pure rage. He has the scent of the innocent and all they can do is wait to be stalked and killed one by one in a place where no one can hear their screams. Welcome to hell. Witness the rise of Damien Ewell!

Although the background on Damien is still unclear, the few details of his childhood can be used to explore the mind of this animalistic killer. Damien grew up with his mother and never had a consistent father figure. Statistics have shown that children who grow up in single parent homes are more likely to participate in deviant behavior. However, this upbringing by itself could not explain the horrific behavior buried deep inside this young boy. Damien’s mother found a boyfriend from out of town, and although the boyfriend might have been considered the man of the house, Damien did not see it that way. At the age of 11 years old Damien ran away and was found a few days later on the side of the road; he had been brutally beaten, tortured and horribly disfigured. This incident struck fear into the heart of Madison County; the town had never seen anything like this before. The events of that day would prove to be the last time outsiders were accepted into their small town. The boyfriend was suspected of this horrible crime and disappeared soon after. There is reason to believe that Damien got his first taste of blood and death on that very day. READ MORE

Pumpkin Gets Bitey In Eric England’s ‘Trick Or Treater: Part 2′!!!

Writer/director Eric England (Madison County, Roaside, Contracted) has provided (via an exclusive with us) you guys with another halloween treat in the form of a followup to last year’s Trick Or Treater short. If you’ll recall – and if you didn’t see it we’ve included below the jump as well – last year Ace Marrero (Madison County, Roadside) lost his gal Katie Stegeman (Roadside, Contracted) to a killer Cucurbita. And now it’s time for Trick Or Treater: Part Two!

This year he’s moved on to live with Charley Koontz (“Community”, Rubber, Contracted). But, much like Paxton in Hostel 2, he’s brought his baggage as a survivor to his new roommate. It’s pretty NSFW, with copious gore and an in-all-likelihood-illegal sexual act, but it’s a Sunday so that shouldn’t be a problem!

The short was produced by England and Matt Mercer (who is featured in an anonymous cameo in the beginning alongside Stegeman). Cinematography is by Mike Testin and editing by Josh Ethier. Head inside to check it out! READ MORE

Get Stranded With This Trailer For ‘Roadside’!

Writer/director Eric England made a splash earlier this year with Madison County and it looks like his 2013 will be busy as well with the release of Contracted and his installment in Chiller TV’s anthology “Chilling Visions: 5 Senses of Fear.”

Also coming next year, pending distribution, is Roadside, a single location thriller that “Finds Dan Summers and his pregnant wife, Mindy, in a fight for their lives when they are held hostage in their car by an unseen gunman on the side of a desolate mountain road.” Ace Marrero, Katie Stegeman, Alan Pietruszewski, Lionel D. Carson and Jack Curenton all star.

And today sees the release of the trailer, which sort of has a Phone Booth vibe but with some stalk and slash. Head inside to check it out! READ MORE

Exclusive Images From Eric England’s ‘Contracted’ And The First Word On His Next Film, ‘The Underneath’

Bloody Disgusting has landed the exclusive first images from Contracted, the new film from writer/director Eric England (Madison County, Roadside). The film just wrapped principal photography earlier this week and stars Njarra Townsend, Caroline Williams, Katie Stegeman, Charley Koontz, E-Kan Soong, Matt Mercer, Simon Barrett, Alice Macdonald, Jennifer Gonzalez, Ruben Pla and Lionel D. Carson.

In the film, also penned by England, “A young girl has a one-night stand with a random stranger and contracts, what she thinks is, a sexually-transmitted disease – but is actually something much worse.” Here’s our initial report on the project.

I recently spent some time on the set of the film, and while I can’t give away too much just yet – I can say that this movie most certainly does not shy away from its subject matter. I wouldn’t wish the sickness visited on Townsend’s character on anyone but, from what I saw at least, it felt like she was rising to the challenges of the role. My visit left me feeling queasy in all of the intended ways.

We also have the exclusive word on England’s next directing gig, The Underneath. In the film written by T.J. Cimfel (Crawl To Me), “After her husband goes missing in a tragic mining accident, a distraught woman joins the rescue crew only to discover a demonic presence hellbent on reaching the surface.

[LOL] Join The One Man Madison County Boycott!

Arriving on DVD and Digital Download May 8 is Eric England’s backwoods slasher Madison County – which we’ve teased in this extensive exclusive set report. But before you can get your hands on a copy, an official boycott has emerged. And by boycott, I mean one YouTube user who hilariously declares that he’ll “stingle handily tarnish” England’s career. It’s unclear why the little guy is so angry, but it’s an absolutely hilarious video that was retweeted this weekend by a thick-skinned England. Watch the video below and then share your thoughts on Madison County next Tuesday.

‘Madison County’ To Hog Shelf And Hard Drive Space On May 8th!

Madison County To Hog Shelf And Hard Drive Space On May 8th!

Director Eric England is only in his early 20′s but his new slasher, Madison County – which we’ve teased in this extensive exclusive set report – is now set to hit DVD and Digital Download on May 8th!

Dating back to the fairy tales of Grimm, the woods have always been a place of immense beauty, but also of abject terror. Perhaps it’s the lack of civilization, or not knowing what lurks around the next tree, but sometimes what seems idyllic and bucolic only masks the path to death itself! On May 8th, Image Entertainment presents Madison County on DVD and digital download. Premiered at last year’s prestigious ScreamFest — the only film to sell out during the festival! — and already abuzz with anticipation among genre fans, Madison County promises an excursion into rural terror that pays homage to the original ‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ and ‘The Town that Dreaded Sundown’. SRP is $27.97 for the DVD.

Set Report: A Bloody Trip to ‘Madison County’

Written, directed, and produced by 22-year-old filmmaker Eric England, Madison County tells the story of a group of five young college students who are thrown into a nightmare of pain and terror after traveling to a small town in Arkansas and running afoul of the strange locals – not the least of which is brutal serial killer Damien Ewell. Last fall B-D reporter Chris Eggertsen visited the Arkansas set of the low-budget production – boasting special makeup effects by Rob Hall’s Almost Human – to get a closer look at the backwoods slasher and interview cast and crew, including England and star Nick Principe, who most recently starred as “Chromeskull” in Hall’s Laid to Rest (and will be reprising the role in the upcoming sequel).
