Review: ‘X-O Manowar’ #8

Trying to find new ways to rave about Valiant’s books is becoming increasingly difficult each month. The company’s entire line of books are stellar and consistently leading the pack is X-O Manowar. Writer Robert Venditti has taken “X-O Manowar”, and turned it into the crown jewel of the company’s relaunch. “X-O Manowar” combines all the best elements of “300″, “Conan”, and “Iron Man” into one melting pot that is enhanced by spellbinding action, intriguing characters, and some remarkably poignant storytelling. [OMFG] Manowar Scoring New Jean Claude Van Damme Movie

My inner 80′s child just exploded. Seriously, it was a nuclear bomb sized blast of unbridled glee. You have to understand, I grew up on 80′s action films. Commando, Predator, Rambo, Aliens, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, etc… These were the staple weekend films that my dad and I would plunk ourselves down on the family room couch to watch during my childhood. Yes, my dad is awesome.

On top of that, I loved me some 80′s power metal. Was it over the top? Sky high. Was it cheesy? Pure American cheddar cheesy. But damn was it exciting and a blast to listen to.

Why do I mention all of this? Simple. It has been announced that 80′s power metal band Manowar bassist Joey DeMaio will be composing the music for Soldier, a new Jean Claude Van Damme film set for release in 2013. DeMaio will also be bringing in Manowar songs for the soundtrack.

Read on for quotes from DeMaio and Van Damme. READ MORE

Angels Of Babylon drummer and Nashville, TN native Rhino began compiling tracks featured on Kingdom of Evil many years ago, but was patiently waiting for the optimum lineup to record and release an album. Rhino is well known for his amazing work with Manowar. In 1991, Rhino appeared on The Triumph of Steel; one of Manowar’s best selling album to date. Rhino continued on with Manowar, touring Europe multiple times and cruising through Japan between 1992-1995. Rhino left Manowar in 1995 to pursue personal interest. In the coming years, Rhino was soon introduced to Fefolt, Ellefson and Brosh, and they provided the key to his inspiration to forge ahead and complete the album.
