‘The Collection’ Website Teases New Artwork

Every great collector has a vision, and it will all be realized when The Collection, the sequel to Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton’s slasher The Collector, opens in theaters November 30th, 2012 (in what they’re calling the “real” Black Friday) from LD Entertainment. (We’re also hearing rumors that the film will World Premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas this September!)

The official website for the film isn’t completely active yet, but it does have some new imagery on the front page (which may or may not appear on the US poster).

When Elena’s (Emma Fitzpatrick) friends take her to a secret party at an undisclosed location, she never imagined she would become the latest victim of The Collector, a psychopathic killer. The Collector kidnaps and transports her to an abandoned hotel he’s transformed into his own private maze of torture and death. Upon learning of his daughter’s disappearance, Elena’s wealthy father (Christopher McDonald) hires a group of mercenaries to retrieve her from the vicious grips of The Collector. These mercenaries coerce Arkin (Josh Stewart), the only man to have escaped the wrath of this heinous monster, to lead them through thegruesome labyrinth. Now, Arkin finds himself fighting for his own life in order to save Elena.

The Collection, directed by Marcus Dunstan and written by Dunstan and Patrick Melton, stars Josh Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises), Emma Fitzpatrick (The Social Network), and Christopher McDonald (Requiem for a Dream). READ MORE

‘Saw’ Writers Bring ‘God of War’ To Life For Battle With Medusa, Cyclops & The Hydra!

Universal has tapped genre vets Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to rewrite God of War, the studio adaptation of the video game from Sony Computer Entertainment, says THR.

Created by David Jaffe and Shannon Studstill and released in March 2005, the game followed the battles of the Spartan warrior Kratos, who squares off against mythological beasts including Medusa, Cyclops and the Hydra in his quest to find Pandora’s Box and destroy Ares, the god of war.

David Self, who is exec producing, wrote the initial draft.

Melton and Dunston made their names writing four installments of the Saw horror franchise. To branch out, they wrote a spec called Monstropolis which was well-regarded and caught the attention of the makers of Pacific Rim. It’s also news that the duo worked in the final draft of Guillermo del Toro’s now-filming Pacific Rim. They got their start writing Dimension’s “Project Greenlight” film Feast.

I’ll Pay You A Billion Dollars If You Guess The Rating Of ‘Piranha 3DD’*

3piranha3dd031512 Ill Pay You A Billion Dollars If You Guess The Rating Of Piranha 3DD*

*Just kidding. I’m not sure there was ever any doubt what Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD would be rated. I suppose there was slight a chance there’d be an ‘unrated’ version, but I just imagined that was what the eventual DVD/Blu cut would be. Dimension, like any other distributor, needs to get paid. And the only way to do that is with an “R” (a “PG13″ would be the antithesis of this franchise).

Piranha 3DD has been rated R for “Sequences of strong bloody horror violence and gore, graphic nudity, sexual content, language and some drug use.

The John Gulagar-directed sequel was penned by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and David Hasselhoff all star.

Hit the jump to take a look at the VERY R-Rated trailer. READ MORE

‘Saw’ Writers’ Novel ‘Black Light’ Headed To The Screen!

Studios love pre-existing properties, especially when they come from minds associated with franchises that are as positively dripping with money as Saw was. To that end, it’s no surprise that Black Light (book review here) is coming together for the silver screen.

Per Deadline, “Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan, the team behind three of the Saw films, are currently doing production rewrite work on the Guillermo del Toro-directed tent pole Pacific Rim for Legendary Pictures. At the same time, they are plotting out the movie adaptation of Black Light, a new thriller novel they wrote with Stephen Romano that was just published by Mulholland Books. They’ve enlisted Michael De Luca to produce, and WME is starting to put the package together.

While this could all very well happen, it’s only a packaging announcement. Expect momentum to pick up when a director is signed on. READ MORE

We spend so much talking about movies when they’re in development that is incredibly exciting to actually hear of a start date for them. When a start date is locked in, it usually means that the flick is finally going behind cameras, and if it doesn’t suck, it could be out in theaters within two years. Website NOLA is reporting that Twentieth Century Fox’s Timur Bekmambetov-directed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will begin filming in New Orleans starting January 24th. It will arrive in theaters June 22, 2012. In addition, they state that Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD goes behind cameras from January 17-February 18 in Baton Rouge. The Alex Aja-directed redo was filmed in Arizona. John Gulager directs this 3D sequel that arrives in theaters September 16, 2011.
