[Album Review] Jeff Danna And Akira Yamaoka ‘Silent Hill: Revelation 3D’ OST

In two days, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, the sequel to 2006’s Silent Hill, will hit theaters. Having been a huge fan of the game franchise since the first one was released, I was there when the first film came out. While I had a few minor issues with the film, I thought it was, and still is, the best video game-to-film adaptation ever released. Part of that was because the music of the film was Akira Yamaoka’s original cues with some simple additions here and there, courtesy of Resident Evil: Apocalypse composer Jeff Danna.

Now we have the sequel’s OST to look at. In a recent press release, Danna stated that director Michael Bassett (interview) told him, “…I need you to inject more musicality and orchestral elements into the score…” Danna once again collaborated with Yamaoka to create the aural landscape that we will be hearing in the film. But how does it fare on its own? Read on to find out. READ MORE

Rob Zombie And Marilyn Manson Curse Each Other Out On Stage In Detroit

At last night’s show (Friday, Oct. 12th) in Clarkston, MI at the DTE Amphitheater, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson kinda went off on each other, resulting in some profanity-laden moments being tossed around by both parties. What supposedly happened is that Marilyn Manson began his show late and wasn’t able to get the full setlist in that was originally intended. As a result, Manson apparently told the crowd that he was, “…going to beat his ass,”, supposedly in reference to Rob Zombie. When Zombie went onstage, he took his time onstage as an opportunity to curse our Manson. This was especially apparent in the band’s cover of Alice Cooper‘s “Schools Out”, where he continuously said, “Fuck you, Marilyn Manson!” and “Suck it, Marilyn Manson!” Video of this can be seen below as well as a Facebook post from Rob Zombie.

Look, it’s pretty simple in my mind: If Manson went on late, he needs to realize that his set will be cut short. Tours have a VERY specific schedule that they need to adhere to. Remember that the crew has to break down the sets, load them up, and get to the next location so they can build everything before the show and do sound checks and everything else required to ensure a show goes smoothly. Manson knows this as he’s been touring for the better part of 20 years. So for him to lose it like this is not only childish, it’s idiotic. Then again, there might be things happening backstage that I have no clue about, so who’s to say? READ MORE

John 5 Discusses Score To Rob Zombie’s ‘The Lords Of Salem’

In a recent interview with The Daily Herald, Rob Zombie/ex-Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5 discussed his scoring process for the upcoming Rob Zombie-directed film The Lords Of Salem. One of the things John 5 mentioned was that he wanted to create a very memorable cue, stating, “I wanted the theme of this movie to be very simple, like “Jaws” or “Halloween”“. He continues on to say, “I always say, it’s music that people don’t want to listen to, because you’re watching the movie. It’s tough. It’s gotta be good enough, but it can’t distract you.

Speaking about the sounds of the film, John 5 explains, “Rob would give me direction, like, ‘I want it to sound like this, or I want it to sound like that.’ It’s very primitive, not your everyday-sounding instruments. I would use a violin bow across an acoustic guitar or clank on things or use other odd musical instruments. Then, of course, you have your bassoons and french horns and everything under the sun for other parts of the score. It’s very unorthodox, if you will, but it really was a lot of fun. It was a lot of work and it was a big challenge. It turned out amazing, though. I’m very proud of it; that’s for sure.

I’m a little torn by what 5 is saying. Wanting to create music that is both memorable yet something the audience won’t listen to just doesn’t click in my mind. Using his examples of Jaws and Halloween, I can safely say that I paid just as much attention to the music of those films as I did to the visuals. Then again, I love horror movie scores, so I might be in the minority of people that pay attention to the scores while watching a movie. READ MORE

[Interview] Juliette And Sean Beaven Talk 8MM

Interview and article by Chris Lockett

Over the past decade or so, the Internet has proven itself to be the ultimate gateway to discovering new music, and in helping artists from all over the world at getting their voices heard. However, every coin has a flipside, which is to say that over the past few years, the Internet has become overcrowded with some absolutely horrendous “artists” who end up with every bit as good of a chance at getting their voices heard, as the artists that have actual, discernable, talent do. It’s unfortunate. And the fact that the world seems to enjoy these dime a dozen Rock, or Pop acts, only serves to tilt the playing field away from the REAL artists/innovators, and toward these groups that have absolutely nothing new to bring to the table.

And so this brings me to the subject at hand. 8MM is an excellent band that has gone under the radar since their formation in 2004. The group, founded by Producer/Mixer extraordinaire Sean Beavan, (who has worked with Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, God Lives Underwater, Guns N’ Roses, and Slayer, as well as many others), and his wife, the stunning Juliette Beavan, have released three EPs, as well as a full-length album in 2006. And now, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, Sean and Juliette have released their latest album Between the Devil and Two Black Hearts. The album sees them completely reinventing themselves, by going from an Industrial Trip-Hop sound, to a Southern Industrial sound, and the results are nothing short of breathtaking, ensuring that the album will undoubtedly be the band’s breakthrough.

Bloody-Disgusting was able to catch up with BOTH Sean and Juliette, (we thought that we were only going to be chatting with Juliette, but were pleasantly surprised to find Sean on the other line as well), to talk about their new album and sound, as well as their views on Top 40 music, and of course, Horror flicks. Hit the jump to check out this exclusive interview. READ MORE

We are so stoked for people to hear it! Charles Manson Writes Letter To Marilyn Manson

In what might be one of the most bizarre open letters posted on the internet, the notorious Charles Manson wrote a postcard to shock rocker Marilyn Manson and posted it online at MansonDirect. The letter makes no sense whatsoever, jumping from one rambling, incoherent thought to another, almost as though it were done in a free writing style. Still, it’s rather fascinating to read, especially when done out loud. There is almost a poetic rhythm to it, a cadence, that is hypnotic.

You can read the full letter as well as see the actual handwritten note below. Does anyone else get chills up and down their spine when reading through it? READ MORE

Chris Vrenna Brings Tweaker Out Of Hibernation

Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson) has announced the return of Tweaker! It’s been eight years since 2 a.m. Wake Up Call and now he’s back with Call The Time Eternity, which will come out Oct. 23rd via Metropolis Records. The album will feature a guest appearance from Collide‘s kaRIN.

Vrenna describes, “Every tweaker record is a mix of instrumental music and vocal songs. During the writing and recording process, tracks will naturally evolve into one or the other.

Vrenna explains his decision to record a cover of Phil Collins‘ “I Don’t Care Anymore” for the album, “I do love Phil’s drumming! He really broke new ground both in the grooves he created, but also in the way his drums were recorded and sounded. I especially loved the darkness and sadness he explored lyrically in his solo records. While working on tweaker, ‘I Don’t Care Anymore’ began haunting me. For a few weeks every time I got in the car, it came on the radio. It happened so many times that I took it as a sign.

Marilyn Manson Releases NSFW Video For “Slo-Mo-Tion”

Marilyn Manson has released a NSFW (reason: breasts) video for “Slo-Mo-Tion”, which comes off his latest album Born Villain (review). The video is your standard Manson fare: lots of use of lighting for effect, creepy images, and Manson trying to be as odd and strange as possible. And yet, I just can’t get over the feeling that 1) I’ve seen it all before and 2) that it’s just not what it used to be. Maybe I’m getting old and just not into it anymore, but this video did absolutely nothing for me.

In fact, the most telling part for me was 2:38 into the video, when Manson, flanked on the left by [bassist] Twiggy and on the right by a bare breasted woman, is walking down the street and he looks just so…awkward. It’s as though Manson was asking himself, “Really? Am I still really doing this?”

Check out the video below and leave your thoughts. READ MORE

Marilyn Manson Tries To Thwart The Paparazzi: He Fails

In an attempt to thwart the paparazzi and render them unable to take pictures of him, Marilyn Manson wrote “F*ck You” across his face while going through LAX. The story was brought to the internet via Reddit, where user j_patrick_12 explained precisely why Manson thought this was a good idea.

He writes, “I just went through the LAX security line with Marilyn Manson. He had “F*CK” scrawled in large letters across the bottom half of his face, with what appeared to be a grease pencil. As we each removed our boots in the security line, he kindly explained that it was not directed at me or anyone else in the airport, but rather at the paparazzi, so that they couldn’t sell any photos of him that they took. He was really apologetic about it, and covered his mouth around young children while apologizing to their parents for exposing their child to profanity.

However, as can be 100% expected, this plan backfired and Manson just ended up looking like a moron with obscenities plastered all over his face while people took pictures of him. If you’d like to see one, head on here for a nice chuckle. READ MORE

[News Bits] Johnny Depp Jams With Aerosmith & Ke$ha Vs. The Beatles

Got two news bits for you that are weird enough to combine into one article. The first story is that actor Johnny Depp (Nightmare on Elm St., Dark Shadows) joined Aerosmith at the Hollywood Bowl this past Monday (the 6th). The actor played guitar during the song “Train Kept-A Rollin’”. This isn’t the first time Depp has jammed with other musicians. He also appeared on stage with Alice Cooper as well as Marilyn Manson. You can watch video of the performance below.

The second bit I’ve got for you is a really weird mashup of Ke$ha‘s “Tik Tok” with The Beatles‘ “Come Together”. Surprisingly, it works far better than I could’ve imagined. You can stream the song below. READ MORE

Rob Zombie Talks New Album And Touring With Marilyn Manson

ARTISTDirect’s Rick Florino recently caught up with rocker/director Rob Zombie to discuss the current state of affairs on the upcoming horror film The Lords Of Salem as well as Mondo Sex Head, the Twins Of Evil tour with Marilyn Manson, and Zombie’s upcoming album. The full interview can be read here. A few excerpts are below.

ARTISTDirect: What do you think makes Mondo Sex Head different from your other remix albums?

Rob Zombie: Truthfully, I don’t know if it’s that different. I wasn’t shooting to make it different than the other records. What I’ve always liked about the other records is they all have a cool, sexy vibe. Probably on Mondo Sex Head, some of the songs can be longer. There’s a remix of “Living Dead Girl” which is seven minutes long. There’s this pretty long trance groove in it. That’s much more out there than any of the tracks on the other remix albums. I like doing these records because I like seeing where the songs can go and how it all fits together.

ARTISTDirect: How’s the new record coming along? It seems like the tightest band you’ve ever had. Does that translate into the studio?

Rob Zombie: It’s been special. I’m really excited. I know everybody says, “Our new record is our best record ever”. That’s a total cliché, but what I do feel about this record is there have been a couple of times in our career where I feel what we’re doing is special. Whether it’s our best record or not is for someone else to decide. With White Zombie, I felt when we made Astro-Creep: 2000 was a special moment for that band. It was like, “This is the key moment for us”. With my first solo record, Hellbilly Deluxe, I felt, “This is a key moment for me”. I haven’t had that feeling since then. I thought the other albums I made were good records and had great songs. People liked them, but every record can’t have that feeling. It wasn’t until this album, I felt that revelation like you’ve just turned the page on the next chapter. This is a significant record for me. That’s very exciting. A lot of it is in part due to the people I’m working with right now.

Marilyn Manson And Rob Zombie Team Up For The “Twins Of Evil” Tour

In what might be the most horror-influenced tour of the year, shock-rockers Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie are teaming up for a US and European tour. Korn singer Jonathan Davis will be providing opening support as his DJ alter ego J-Devil.

Rob Zombie says, “Finally! Why did the most obvious tour take so long to happen? Who knows? Who cares? It’s happening now. If good taste is the chief enemy of great art, then we should be able to fill the Louvre with this fucking tour. Be prepared for something wicked this way a-coming.”

Marilyn Manson states, “I have sympathy for the Whore of Babylon that gave birth to these twins of evil, and this abomination of a tour. There is no babysitter, and there is no repairing her womb. If Rob Zombie doesn’t fuck you up, than I surely will. Hide all drugs and firearms…I’m coming to town.”

Tickets will be available on both Manson’s website and Zombie’s website. All tour dates are below. READ MORE

Marilyn Manson Stars In ‘Rubber’ Director Quentin Dupieux’s “Wrong Cops”!

The Internet is a wondrous and magical thing, ain’t it? Case and point: Quentin Dupieux, director of Rubber and Wrong, premiered the first chapter of his upcoming film Wrong Cops at the Cannes Film Festival today. The premiere was at 4pm EST and the video was put online at the same time, giving the world a chance to see what the fuss was about. The 14-minute clip stars shock rocker Marilyn Manson, Mark Burnham (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), and Grace Zabriskie (“Twin Peaks”). If you’re quick, you can also see a cameo from Jon LaJoie (“The League”).

Duke, a crooked and music-mad cop, patrols in Los Angeles’ streets, music blasting and meets a young techno lover, David Dolores Frank. Appalled by the musical tastes of the young adolescent, Duke decides to give him a good music lesson.

The full-length film will presumably be released once all the chapters are released. “It is a filthy 90-minute comedy about some disturbed cops. It is not a sequel to ‘Wrong’. Quentin Dupieux is just lazy with titles,” jokes the official website.

Marilyn Manson also just released a new album entitled Born Villain. You can check out our review here.

[Album Review] Marilyn Manson ‘Born Villain’

Review written by Chris Lockett: It’s been almost a decade since Marilyn Manson made a good album. The fantastic, The Golden Age of Grotesque came out in 2003, followed by the mediocre Eat Me, Drink Me in 2007, and finally, the mixed bag that was The High End of Low in 2009. Now Manson is at it again with his new album Born Villain, which he deems as his “comeback album”. A lot of hype has been surrounding the release, but is it deserving of it? And more importantly, does it hold a candle to Manson’s early albums? READ MORE

10 Horror Games And The Bands That Should’ve Scored Them

Sometimes I get really bored. I’m only human, and like the rest of you, there are times when I need a little entertainment. During one of my recent fits of boredom where I was lying naked on the floor of my room in a sticky puddle of dried up Mountain Dew while staring up at the ceiling wondering what wordsmith came up with the word ‘orange,’ I decided to come up with a little game — something to fill my time so I didn’t have to finally concede to what the voices in my head were telling me to do. For the unaware, at Bloody Disgusting lies a mythical creature known as a Jonathan Barkan. He runs the music section on BD with a tyrannical fist and a sweet moustache. If I were reviewing Jon, his Baby Factor would go something like ”If Albert Wesker and a Big Daddy got together to make sweet, sweet love inside a record store, Jonny B would be their musically inclined offspring.”

All that is a long-winded way of saying he knows his music, and he also happens to share my love of video games. So let’s get back to the game I was teasing earlier. I gave Jon ten video game franchises and asked him who he thought would be best suited to score the soundtracks for that series. For example, if Akira Yamaoka had never joined Konami to craft the incredible scores the Silent Hill series is known for, who could’ve taken his place? Find out whom he chose for Silent Hill, as well as nine others, after the jump. READ MORE

Johnny Depp Joins Marilyn Manson In ‘Sweet Dreams’ Performance

Last night, at the Revolver Golden Gods awards show, actor Johnny Depp joined shock rocker Marilyn Manson on stage to play guitar on Manson’s cover of Sweet Dreams. You can check out the video below.

Personally, I think the overall sound quality is pretty thin and doesn’t hit nearly as hard as I was hoping it would. Also, Manson sounds pretty terrible. He’s off tune, the screams don’t have the same power that they used to, and he seems to lose breath quite quickly.

Depp will make an appearance on Manson’s upcoming album, Born Villain (in stores May 1st), tackling lead guitar and drums on a cover of Carly Simon‘s You’re So Vain. He will also be appearing in the upcoming Dark Shadows, which is directed by Tim Burton. The movie comes out May 11th. READ MORE
