If there’s one thing that hard rock outfit Alter Bridge is internationally known for, it’s their penchant for yearly music festivals. In the 9 years that they’ve been on the scene, they’ve practically become veterans of the summer festival circuit, both nationally and abroad. One may even be able to go as far as to say they’re on their way to becoming the kings.
This year looks to be no exception as the season of the festival lineup releases has begun. Hot on the heels of their announcement of playing this year’s Rock on the Range (an excellent lineup, to be sure), as well as some long-awaited U.S. tour dates in support of their latest album, Fortress, we bring to you today a short-but-sweet exclusive interview with lead singer Myles Kennedy, expressing his thoughts on just what it took to bring forth their latest creation.
Alter Bridge is one of those bands that, for the most part, still seems to be somewhat of an undiscovered gem. Their fan base has grown exponentially over the years, and they do receive significant airplay. But there are still a lot of people who have not heard of them. And for those who have, well, like with Creed, you either love them or hate them. Funny how three of the four core members of that band seem to keep winding up in bands drawing those sorts of sentiments.
I happen to fall in the ‘love them’ category. I’ll openly admit I’m a huge Mark Tremonti fangirl and used to be a huge Creed fan, which (like with many of their admirers) is how I was introduced to them in 2005. One big factor with Alter Bridge is constant growth. Each album seems to be bigger than the last. And Fortress is no exception. In fact, it may set the precedent for future AB releases; it’s just that huge. READ MORE

Mark Tremonti, guitarist of Creed and Alter Bridge, has announced that he wants to record and release a thrash metal album. Speaking to ‘Robb’s MetalWorks’ in San Antonio, Tremonti has said: “I just had three months off while Myles was touring with Slash, so I figured it was a good time to get some music put together. I collaborated with Eric Friedman and Garrett Whitlock. All this stuff that I wanted to see the light of day that never really got used for Alter Bridge and Creed is what I’m putting on the record. There’s a lot of speed metal and thrash stuff in there — riffs that I had sitting around — that I’m putting on this record. So it’s definitely a heavier-sounding album.”
Knowing Tremonti’s style and his influences, I’m thinking that this could work and actually end up sounding pretty badass. What do you all think?
