Based on the board game, this is conceived as a big budget family adventure film in the tone of “The Mummy,” set in multiple locations around the world. Action-adventure horror story in which a group of twenty-somethings violate all the mythic “don’ts” of the Ouija board and unleash a Pandora’s Box type of evil spirit bent on revenge.
Project mixes Jane Austen’s 1813 classic novel “Pride and Prejudice,” centering on Elizabeth Bennet’s quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a virus that turns the dead into zombies. The story’s set in an alternate version of 19th Century England that features deadly ancestors roaming the countryside. Collins would play the Elizabeth Bennet character.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the Timur Bekmambetov-directed and Seth Grahame-Smith scripted revisionist take on the life of the 16th President of the United States opens on June 22nd.
I recently hopped on the phone with Smith to talk about the film and his experience working with Bekmambetov. We also talked about some of his upcoming projects including Beetlejuice 2, Unholy Night and the oft-delayed Pride And Prejudice And Zombies.
The film, “explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation. As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war – and ultimately to the presidency – he chronicles in a hidden diary. His journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.”
Benjamin Walker stars as “Honest Abe”, with Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Rufus Sewell, Robin McLeavy, Robin McLeavy, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jimmi Simpson and Alan Tudyk.

Ouija may not have a studio home anymore, but the supernatural project is still very much pointing to “yes”, reports Heat Vision.
Hasbro, which is financing development, and Platinum Dunes, the shingle producing the project, have hired well-regarded scribe Marti Noxon to work on the script.
Noxon cut her teeth and gained geek cred with her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and most recently wrote the remake of Fright Night. She also did a pass on Lionsgate’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Ouija was set up at Universal but was untethered in late August due to budgetary concerns. But Noxon’s hiring shows Hasbro is still very keen on the “Ouija” project, and is unafraid to spearhead its own development.
Ouija is still envisioned as a family adventure in the tone of The Mummy centering on a family who has to deal with otherworldly chaos that is unleashed. READ MORE

Hearing that a studio may be fearful isn’t anything new. I know the immediate reaction is to scream “what a bunch of pussies,” but occasionally the restraint is what is needed to keep projects like The Thing remake from ruined everyone‘s lives. Such the case with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a project that’s been in development hell over at Lionsgate. Writer Marti Noxon was asked about the hold-out and gave a very “safe” response, one that ultimately I can side with. Still, I would love to see this historical mash-up in theaters.
“I really can’t say because my experience with Lionsgate was always great,” Noxon told Movies.com. “They are committed to doing it and really smart and my experience with Craig [Gillespie] was, again, great. Everybody seemed very pleased with where the script ended up, so it’s really a little baffling. I would say it probably, in my suspicions, has to do with the marketplace.”
She continues, “It’s very hard to sell a comedy-horror concept. As much as it’s already pre-sold and popular much in the same way ‘Fright Night’ was, it’s still a little risky. At the same time, you get a success like ‘Zombieland’, but then something will come along that makes people nervous again, so I feel like there’s a little bit of that problem, particularly on the casting side. It’s hard to find an actress who is super hot because they might not be inclined to take a risk on something that has a 70 / 30% chance of working, you know? I think it’s more to do with the marketplace than the logistics of the actual project.”
As previously reported, Craig Gillespie is no longer directing. READ MORE
