COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of November 9th 2011

Fewer and fewer leaves find themselves on the trees, the temperature is taking a nose dive every week (at least in Canada), and with the holiday season fast approaching most of us will try to enjoy our added time spent indoors. It’s only natural that with an increase in time spent in our cozy rooms comes an increase in time spent reading comics. The winter is a hot season…for graphic novels, and publishers will be releasing quite a few big titles in the week leading up to the holidays, so get out your pen and paper and start your wish list early! This week brings on the third issues of the acclaimed BATWOMAN and DEMON KNIGHTS as well as the long awaited RETURN TO PERDITION graphic novel.

With the ever-increasing number of books coming out between the tie-ins, the
crossovers, and the new series, we’ve got to limit our list of comics for the week somehow. Rather than cramming so many previews down your throat that you barely breathe, I’m going to give you my ten most anticipated books of the week. So feast your eyes on these! Whether you’ve been into comics since you were a young’un, or you’re new to the game, I’m here to help you decide which books to read. Read on for the skinny…

For horror nuts like us who thrive off of suspense, gore, and a good old-fashioned ghost story, there is no better time of the year than Halloween. There’s just something about the chilly fall breeze, the naked trees, the wind that whirls, calling out to the dead. This week is the perfect time to nestle up in your favorite chair by the window with a brand new horror story.

COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of October 19th 2011

Welcome back to COMICS TO FEAST ON! As we venture further into the fall season it means two things. First, the conclusion to major events like, Fear Itself. Second, and perhaps more pertinent, is the approach of All Hallows Eve. With Halloween coming up in just a few weeks comic publishers see it as their duty to release whole bunch of new horror comics and graphic novels to bloody up the shelves this month. Be on the look out for these horror stories, many of the indie books look to be quite the fright fest.

COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of September 21st 2011

Another fresh batch of The New 52 are flying your way this week! Most of DC’s major titles have been released, however, there are still a great deal of gems to be found in the new DCU. Highlights from last week’s crop were Batman and Robin, Batwoman, Demon Knights, Green Lantern, and Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E.. These groundbreaking new books are still selling out all over the world, and I see no slowing in pace anytime soon.

Obviously there are loads of other comics coming out this week from other publishers, but in honor of such a milestone event, most of the books in this week’s COMICS TO FEAST ON are from DC’s New 52 lineup. Now I know you won’t be buying all 52 new series so let us know which books you can’t wait for!

COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of September 7th 2011

This is not just any ordinary week in the comic book world, friends. Although last week officially marked the beginning of the DC New 52, this week they’ve got tons of brand new #1’s heading your way! These comics are selling out quicker than backstage passes to a Justin Bieber concert, so don’t miss out on the fun! Obviously there are loads of other comics coming out this week from other publishers, but in honor of such a milestone event, most of the books in this week’s COMICS TO FEAST ON are from DC’s New 52 lineup (this will likely be the case for most of September). Chub Of The Day: Blood and Grit Preview of ‘The Punisher’ #3!

Both Rucka and The Punisher are back and better than ever. This new Punisher series is dark, gritty, and showcases just how enigmatic Frank Castle can be. The last issue of Rucka’s new ‘The Punisher’ series ended in a place I don’t think anyone expected. The Vulture flew into the last few pages of the book, and no he’s not the same old green-tight wearing bozo he used to be. Rucka’s Vulture looks more like a hell-spawn than anything, and he’s about to get a big black Punisher boot in his ugly face. On another note, has anyone else noticed that the detectives in this are exactly the same as Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt inSe7en…Anyway, check this bloody preview of ‘The Punisher’ #3. Marc Spector Gets Even More Insane In This ‘Moon Knight’ #5 Preview

Two things can be said about this book. One, Moon Knight is bat-shit insane. Two, this is one of the best comics Bendis has put out in years (which says a lot considering how much he’s written). What’s so intriguing about this series is that Bendis plays around with a character who’s not so well known in the Marvel U, and he plays with him a lot (no not like that! get your mind out of the gutter). Look for things to get even crazier in ‘Moon Knight’ #5, set out September 7th to compete with the New 52! Read on for the skinny…

News Bites: Opening Credits of ‘Blade’ Anime, ‘Total Recall’ Set Pics & ‘Melancholia’ Art

This morning there’s a slew of interesting little nuggets of news worthy of a quick blurb. First, inside you’ll find the latest official poster for Magnolia’s Melancholia, directed by the controversial Lars Von Trier for release on November 4. In addition, we’ve updated our image gallery with a rash of new stills from the pic that follow Kristen Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg, two sisters whose lives are drifting apart as the universe spectacularly unravels in what Von Trier describes as a beautiful movie about the end of the world.

Also beyond the break is a link to behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the now-filming redo of Total Recall. The pics aren’t eventful but do give us a look at both Colin Farrell and Jessica Biel in costume. Len Wiseman directs for Columbia Pictures with an August 3, 2012 date set in stone. The movie is ditches the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell), a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy — although he doesn’t know for which side.

About a month ago, a trailer for the Madhouse Animation Blade anime series hit the web, which is rumored to be premiering stateside later this year on G4TV. The series, written by Kenta Fukasaku (Battle Royale and, sadly, Battle Royale II), will focus on Blade teaming up with a young vampire hunter from Japan, plus Noah Van Helsing and his dog Razor, against the evil Deacon Frost and his minions in Asia. The opening credits have begun making the rounds today, which features a whole lot of fire and Blade flashing his fancy gadgets around.
