Megadeth Stream New Song “Kingmaker”

Thrash metal titans Megadeth have released a stream of “Kingmaker”, a new song from their upcoming album Super Collider, which comes out June 4th. The album can be pre-ordered on Amazon.

In an interview with the Shockwaves/Hardradio podcast, singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine explains the meaning of “Kingmaker”, stating, “The song ‘Kingmaker’ is about how people are running from their problems… And there’s a lot of that on this particular record — just looking at, like, ‘Here’s what I’ve got. What are you gonna do with it?’ It’s talking a lot about this generation, how people, their lives are falling apart and they just take pills. Instead of sucking up and doing what I did and going and getting the surgery and getting off the medication, they’ll continue to just trudge it out until the end of their life where they just take pills until their body is eaten… And the other thing that’s part of that song is talking about how when you take these things how they make you feel different. Some people, they get into that ’cause they like the way it makes you feel, ’cause it makes you kind of feel warm and fuzzy. In the song, it talks about wanting to fly and being ten feet tall. Booze does that to some people. And this is just something that, I think, if there is a way that I can help educate a lot of our fans, especially the younger ones that still have their whole life ahead of them, it’s not as glamorous as you think it is to go down that path of just checking it out and drugging yourself up and not facing reality…

Straight away I can tell you that “Kingmaker” is about 100 times better than the title track, “Super Collider”. However, it’s the first track on the album and is directly followed by “Super Collider”, which means we’re going from a fairly badass thrasher to a serious junker, which never bodes well for the flow of an album.

Head on below to listen to “Kingmaker”. READ MORE

Full Gigantour 2013 Lineup And Schedule Announced

Fans of Megadeth can look forward to seeing the band this summer on this year’s Gigantour. Support for the thrash metal legends will come from Black Label Society. Also on the tour will be Device, which features Disturbed singer David Draiman, Hellyeah, Newsted, and Death Division. All bands were personally picked by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine.

This year’s power-packed lineup is probably the best Gigantour yet, and we’ve had some pretty massive Gigantours over the years. Gigantour 2013 brings four of my favorite bands, each centered around a superstar. With Zakk, David, Vinnie, and Jason there are going to be fans from Ozzy to Disturbed to Pantera to Metallica and everything that’s metal in-between! Don’t miss the metal festival of the summer!

Having listened to Megadeth for several years, I can safely say that this is a truly awful song. It’s entirely boring and does nothing to get the blood pumping. It feels safe, which is something Megadeth never was. READ MORE

[Editorial] Why There Most Likely Will Never Be Another “Metallica” Level Band

Let me make things clear right now: This isn’t an article about Metallica. Rather, I use their popularity and influence as the foundation for the very simple statement that there will most likely never be a band that reaches their level ever again. I just can’t see it happening in today’s day and age, not with how band’s showcase their presence and not with how the audience of today functions.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love nothing more than to see a metal band emerge that writes killer material, mobilizes a rabid following, and, over time, becomes an entity that grows to a larger-than-life status. Such bands are few and far between and the problem is that they are becoming rarer and rarer with each passing day. The days of huge, lasting influential bands may very well be at an end. READ MORE

Yes! Megadeth’s “Hangar 18″ Video Mashed Up With The Power Rangers Theme Song

Perhaps one of Megadeth‘s most famous songs, “Hangar 18″ is a classic of melodic thrash metal and features a fantastic UFO/alien driven music video. Full of creepy creatures, mad scientists, and evil government officials, it’s a sci-fi/horror fans’ wet dream.

But you know what would make the video just a little more amazing? If someone were to remove the music and replace it with the theme song to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Wait, someone did that? And you can watch it below?? This is the best Sunday ever!!! READ MORE

Megadeth Will Bring You ‘Super Collider’ In June

Metal legends Megadeth have unveiled Super Collider as the title of their 14th studio album. They have also announced that the album will be released in June and will be distributed by Universal Records. This comes after Megadeth’s split with Roadrunner Records, which was amicable.

Mustaine states, “It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal. It seems like every time you see a great band or music video, it comes from a Universal label … Being with Universal is by far the most exciting and prestigious home for Megadeth ever! We are electrified with what the future holds and the possibilities such a powerhouse like Universal will bring for us all.

We have worked with some great people over the years, and it is amazing to see so many of them on the Universal team for our new record, Super Collider. If Megadeth being here isn’t satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world.

Lordi To Release New Album ‘To Beast Or Not To Beast’

Finnish hard rockers Lordi have announced that they will be releasing a new album entitled To Beast Or Not To Beast on March 19th via The End Records. The album was recorded at WireWorld Studio in Nashville, TN with producer Michael Wagner (Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row, Megadeth). This album will be the debut for new members Halla on keys and Mana on drums.

Mr. Lordi states, “The road to this album has truly been paved by hardships. However, the new line-up of the band has given us new and fresh touch and an energetic edge to the recording process, and to the album itself.

The album cover painting is actually a part of a larger picture. The original artwork had this vintage- styled lady holding a horned skull, which, however, was not the main point of the art piece. There was something not quite right with the setting, so I made experiments with various versions and framings. Album title was Upgradead at that point in time, and the painting was done with that title in mind.

”But now, with a changed concept of the artwork, the title did not seem to fit anymore. We did not consider it an A-class name either. Our guitarist Amen came up with the final title, which we felt suitable and perfect both for the cover artwork and the album.

Check out the album cover and track list below. READ MORE

Let’s Talk The Grammy 2013 Rock Nominations, Shall We?

The official 2013 Grammy nominations list has been released and, as per usual, it takes the opportunity to laud and celebrate what the radios and mass media have been shoving down our throats for the past year (thank god we can use mp3 players and dictate what we want to listen to, right?). Now, I basically just completely ignored the vast majority of categories and immediately scanned down to find the four categories that interested me: Best Rock Performance, Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album. And what I found was pretty…well, it was pretty confusing. READ MORE
