[LOL] Bear At Zoo Headbangs For Children

heavymetalbear [LOL] Bear At Zoo Headbangs For Children
Much like the rest of the Internet, I’m a fan of cute animal photos/videos. Just because I love me some blood, gore, heavy metal, and Chris Brown bashing (I had to get that in there) doesn’t mean I’m not able to be seduced and wooed by the cuteness of the animal kingdom.
But when these interests collide, I’m made so happy that I could just burst with glee. Below, you’ll find a video of a bear headbanging in front of several children (who join along for a little bit) to the dulcet tones of Veil Of Maya‘s 20/200. A single tear of happiness just rolled down my cheek.

Staind Releases Video For ‘Eyes Wide Open’

staindcoversnippet Staind Releases Video For Eyes Wide Open
Rock band Staind has released a video for Eyes Wide Open, which comes off their latest release, Staind (review). The video shows the band performing live and features singer Aaron Lewis and his magical disappearing/reappearing beard. It really is quite mesmerizing. But all joking aside, the song is awesome, the guys all seem to be having a great time performing it, and the fans are eating up every second of it. Check out the video below.
Staind will also be hitting the road with Godsmack and Halestorm in April. Tour dates are below.
Check out our exclusive video of the band performing The Bottom at a benefit show in New York for families of 9/11 victims here.

Peter Dolving Quits The Haunted?

 Peter Dolving Quits The Haunted?
Update: The band has confirmed Peter’s departure. It looks like it’s official.
Peter Dolving, singer of The Haunted, has posted on his Facebook page that he is officially leaving the band. Since I’m so shocked to see this (the combination of his voice and the band’s music still blows me away), I’m going to have wait until I see an official press release before I believe it.
Dolving, “I am officially quitting The Haunted. After years of working with the band, I am out. I have had it. I will NOT answer questions to why. It’s no one elses[sic] business. Thank you very much. I am looking forward to seeing you people at other shows with other projects.”
Like I say, pure shock on my end. As much as I want to wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors, I’m beyond sad to see him go.

[NSFW] Society 1 Releases A Seriously Controversial Video For ‘Kill Me’

society1killmescreencap [NSFW] Society 1 Releases A Seriously Controversial Video For Kill Me
Society 1 has never really seen a point in steering away from controversy and their latest video for Kill Me proves that. Featuring singer Lord Zane as both Jesus AND Hitler, the video is a chaotic, frenzied montage of blood, breasts, swastikas, and sadomasochistic violence. In an interview with The Guantlet, Zane explains that his demise from crucifixion, auto-erotic asphyxiation, and blood-letting during an orgy are relevant to the theme of the song. As for his portrayal of Hitler? Apparently it’s a nod to an inside joke between him and several of his friends.
Check out the NSFW video below.

[Interview] Jim Matheos Talks OSI’s ‘Fire Make Thunder’

[Interview] Jim Matheos Talks OSIs Fire Make Thunder
A band that I’ve been a big fan of for many years is OSI, which features Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) and Kevin Moore (ex-Dream Theater). There is something old-school, yet incredibly futuristic about their approach to prog-metal. I can’t exactly explain it, but listen to their albums and you’ll understand what I mean.
So, with great excitement, I got the opportunity to speak to Jim regarding the upcoming album Fire Make Thunder (out March 27th). We spoke about everything from the title to specific songs to how many of the sounds were created. Check out this exclusive interview below.

[OMFG] Skyrim Goes Metal In The Modern Age

I’ve been hooked into Skyrim for the past several weeks. Something about slaying dragons and crafting Daedric armor (f*cking impossible to find daedra hearts) is just so badass in my mind. Hell, the Dead Pixels fellas loved it. Just check out their review.

But one thing the game didn’t have was some killer metal. And lord knows that metal makes any game better!!! So a couple of fellas decided to put together a video of what it would be like to be the ultimate metal Dovahkiin. Oh, and of course they used B.C. Rich guitars. After all, those things look like weapons no matter what the context.

[OMFG] Metallica Meets Jay-Z In ‘Double Black’

[OMFG] Metallica Meets Jay Z In Double Black
BamBeatz, a up-and-coming hip hop producer from Florida, has decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary release of Metallica‘s self-titled album (often referred to as The Black Album) and the 10th anniversary of Jay-Z‘s Black by combining the two into a mixtape. The first track, Moment Of Clarity, can be heard below and is also available for free download.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the biggest hip hop fan but creativity in music is something I’m always excited to hear about. That being said, this track started out pretty sweet but quickly devolved into the “boring” territory. Metallica is known as a metal band, not a band that plays the same riff over and over and over and over… Rather, they are a band that uses dynamics to create multi-layered songs. If you’re planning on using the music of Metallica and the vocals of Jay-Z, how about actually using the music of Metallica the way it is meant to be heard: nice and heavy!

Periphery Release New Single ‘Passenger’

 Periphery Release New Single Passenger
Prog-metal/djent band Periphery have released Passenger, the first single from their upcoming album (as of yet unnamed and with no defined release date). The song is actually a rerecording of the Haunted Shores song of the same name. You can snag the song on iTunes.
All told, I’m not a fan of the new mix. The snare not only pops out of the mix a bit too strongly but it is also EQ-ed to a point where it sounds a bit piercing. The bass drum also has an incredibly similar tone to Meshuggah‘s Bleed. Still, as for the song itself, I’m enjoying it! It has a great mix of heaviness and melody and the chorus is ridiculously catchy. Check it out below.

Dethklok’s Brendon Small Presents Galaktikon

Brendon Small, the mastermind behind Dethklok, the band on Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse, has announced the upcoming release of his side project Galaktikon. The album will come out this April and coincides with the Season 4 premiere of Metalocalypse.
“This album should be thought of as an audio comic book, an over acted chamber drama, a ridiculous premise that takes itself way too seriously all the way to the end,” states Brendon Small.

Brendon Small paired with Dethklok drummer (legendary metal drummer) Gene Hoglan (Strapping Young Lad, Testament, Fear Factory) and Dethklok bassist Bryan Beller (Steve Vai, Mike Keneally band) as well as Dethklok engineer and mixer Ulrich Wild.

Check below for the awesome, retro sci-fi album artwork.

But in all seriousness, Mother’s Green has released a video for Observation For The Day, which comes off the album Swimming In The Sun, which you can order at their official website. The song is pretty damn heavy and definitely a lot of fun. You can check out the video below as well as more info on the album.
