Metallica ‘Through The Never’ Trailer And Poster Released

A trailer and poster for the upcoming Nimrod Antal (Predators, Kontroll) directed Metallica 3D IMAX film Through The Never has been released and I have absolutely no idea what’s going on. However, I can say that I’m very much intrigued and that it looks awesome! Apocalyptic riots, seriously epic production value, and a concert that looks amazing all add up to a film that basically has my money.

The synopsis for the film reads, “As the band performs its most iconic songs for thousands of their fans in a never-before-seen performance created exclusively for the film, Trip is dispatched outside the arena to meet a disabled delivery truck and recover a mysterious item being transported to the show. But the seemingly simple assignment turns into a surreal adventure when his car is hit by an out-of-control driver. Trip, dazed and bruised, climbs out of his van only to find himself pitched in the middle of a tense standoff between angry protesters and charging riot police. In the ensuing mayhem, a vicious masked horseman sets his murderous eye on Trip while delivering indiscriminate deathblows to rioters and cops alike. Fleeing through the desolate, post-apocalyptic urban streetscape, Trip has only his wits to protect him as he attempts to deliver the band’s precious cargo and avoid becoming the horseman’s next victim.

The film is set to be released in 300 IMAX 3D theaters on September 27th, 2013 and will expand into more theaters on October 4th, 2013. Head on below for the trailer and poster. READ MORE

Exclusive: Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Wants To Follow Rob Zombie’s Footsteps, Make A Movie!

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich wants to follow in the footsteps of Rob Zombie and direct a movie, Getty Images Entertainment exclusively tips off Bloody Disgusting.

Ulrich revealed the ambition during an interview with Getty Images Entertainment in Cannes where he is promoting his new movie, the band’s upcoming 3D film, Through the Never.

The biggest enemy I have is time,” Ulrich explains. “Metallica in its 32nd year is busier and has more projects on the table and takes up more of my time than it ever has.

I may do it,” he continues. “I would love to do something. I have actually been offered the chance to both direct and produce as well as write and I’ve acted in a couple of films so I do what I can.

Metallica is the main thing in my life and I’m not doing to turn my back on that.READ MORE

[Random Cool] This “Enter Sandman” Cover Sounds Like Something Out Of A Horror Movie

This video is a bit of an oldie but is too cool to not share with you all. Below you can watch a video of South Korean jazz singer Youn Sun Nah take on one of metal’s most famous tracks, Metallica‘s “Enter Sandman”. It’s simply her on vocals paired with an acoustic guitar (that pulls out some haunting licks). But what this woman can do with her voice is unbelievable. It’s also something right out of a horror film, her voice cracking much like the iconic sound from Ju-On and then reaching siren-like heights. Perhaps I’m swayed by the fact that she is from Korea, a country that puts out some stellar horror material but I also think I’m onto something here. Listen below and lend me your thoughts.

“Enter Sandman” comes off of Nah’s Same Girl album. READ MORE

Metallica Releases Details On Upcoming 3D Film

Heavy metal legends Metallica have announced that their 3D film, Metallica Through The Never, will be released September 27th in N. America as a limited engagement in IMAX theaters. The film will expand one week later on October 4th. The film was written and directed by Nimród Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by Charlotte Huggins (Journey To The Center Of The Earth).

Drummer Lars Ulrich comments, “IMAX! It doesn’t get bigger or cooler than that!. For four guys in a rock band of average height, to get a chance to unleash their 3D film on IMAX screens the size of buildings across the country is a mind-blowing thought. ‘Hey look, Mom, I’m 50 feet tall (finally!)’ There is no better way to experience film and when you throw in the spectacle of music and sound this should amount to an unprecedented, unique and truly next level experience.

The film tells the story of, “…band crew member (played by Dane DeHaan) who is sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. While on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.READ MORE

Super Weird: Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” Redone In Major

Metallica‘s “Nothing Else Matters” will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s the song that made me want to learn guitar (along with the 2nd solo in “Comfortably Numb”). I spent hours and hours practicing the song and to this day it’s something I pull out and play very readily.

So when I heard this major version of the song, I felt more than a little off. I am so used to hearing the song in a minor key and letting the melancholia and sadness was over me that hearing it “happy” is completely throwing me off. It’s not completely perfect and there are some parts where the software obviously got a bit confused but it’s a damn good indicator of what the song would’ve sounded like had it been written as happy. Head on below to check it out. READ MORE

This Alice In Chains Documentary Kinda Fails In Every Possible Way

Funny Or Die has posted a pretty entertaining “documentary” on the grunge rock band Alice In Chains. Narrated and hosted by Alan Poole McLard, a “Film Studies Professor at a community college” (nope, doesn’t say which one), the documentary follows McLard as he attempts to interview the members of AiC regarding the upcoming release of their latest album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. While the majority of the documentary is McLard chatting with nobodies, some notable musicians do make an appearance, including Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Lars Ulrich and Rob Trujillo (Metallica), Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), and more. There’s definitely a chuckle or two to be had in the video below. READ MORE

[Editorial] Why There Most Likely Will Never Be Another “Metallica” Level Band

Let me make things clear right now: This isn’t an article about Metallica. Rather, I use their popularity and influence as the foundation for the very simple statement that there will most likely never be a band that reaches their level ever again. I just can’t see it happening in today’s day and age, not with how band’s showcase their presence and not with how the audience of today functions.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love nothing more than to see a metal band emerge that writes killer material, mobilizes a rabid following, and, over time, becomes an entity that grows to a larger-than-life status. Such bands are few and far between and the problem is that they are becoming rarer and rarer with each passing day. The days of huge, lasting influential bands may very well be at an end. READ MORE

ESP Creates An Amazing ‘Famous Monsters Vincent Price’ Custom Guitar

ESP Guitars are known for doing custom axes with some amazing art. Hell, just look at some of Kirk Hammett’s (Metallica) guitars that feature artwork from The Mummy or Bride Of Frankenstein.

Well, now the company has just shown a limited-edition guitar featuring the face of one of horror’s most iconic actors: Vincent Price (House On Haunted Hill). The guitar features the artwork from the cover of Issue #254 of Famous Monsters Of Filmland, an issue that celebrated the life and achievements of Price and his effect on horror. One of the little things that I love about the guitar is the inlays from the nut to the 12th fret all line up to create the pendulum from The Pit And The Pendulum with the additional 15, 17th, 19th, 21st, and 24th frets looking like nacre blood droplets.

The guitar is only $899 and can be ordered from your local ESP dealer. You can see the full guitar specs below. READ MORE

Every Single James Hetfield (Metallica) “YEAH!” In One Audio Clip

While Rob Zombie will always hold the record for most “Yeah!”s sang in a musical career, Metallica‘s James Hetfield might be a close second. Apparently something about their music just makes them the most agreeable people ever, the kind of person who always nods furiously and says, “YEAH!” to any suggestion you come up with.

Wanna go to Jack in the Box? “YEAH!” Wanna see a movie? “YEAH!” Wanna kidnap an Ethiopian child? “YEAH-EEEEEYAEEEYAEEYA!!!”

Anyways, coming to the story here, Kevin Conklin has compiled all of Hetfield’s “Yeah!”s from Metallica’s history, beginning with Kill ‘Em All and ending with Beyond Magnetic. It’s pretty funny, especially considering that it’s over 3 minutes long. That’s a lot of “Yeah!”s. Give it a listen below for a laugh! READ MORE

Head To Atlanta For Some Heavy Metal Yoga

Chalk this up as something I would do in a heartbeat. Apparently, Tough Love Yoga in Atlanta, GA, which is owned by Neda Draupadi Honarvar, has a class with a description that reads, “Listen to metal. Do yoga. Melt your face off in a very relaxing and healing way.” Sold. I’m in. Who’s with me?

Honarvar explains that this came about because, “…some of her male friends said they would only try yoga if metal music played during class.” She called their bluff and offered metal yoga classes with each class focusing on a single artist’s music, such as Neurosis, Isis, or Metallica.

Classes are $10 to drop-in and are held at the Tough Love Yoga facility on Dekalb Avenue, next to Radial Cafe. A full article chronicling a man’s experience in her class can be found here. READ MORE

Metallica Announces Lineup For Detroit Orion Music + More Festival

Metallica have released a YouTube video that details all that will be seen at the 2013 edition of the annual Orion Music + More Festival, which takes place this year at Belle Isle in Detroit on June 8th and 9th. The festival will see such acts as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, Bassnectar, Tomahawk, Gogol Bordello, Battlecross, and many more.

Detroit will see the return of James Hetfield’s Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, Kirk Hammett’s Crypt, Lars Ulrich’s Hit the Lights Film Tent and Robert Trujillo’s Vans Vert Ramp alongside the Metallica Museum and many other fan favorite attractions.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich comments, “Last year’s Orion Music + More Festival was hands down the highlight of the Metallica calendar. A great time was had by all, especially the band members. The fact that it also resonated with enough of our fans and friends that it warrants another go-around in ’13 is beyond exciting. I can think of no better place than the Motor City, with its rich and diverse history of music, for the second ride on our Orion festival train. Bring it the fuck on!”

Audience Member Lights Flare During Soundwave 2013 And Disfigures Young Girl

A tragic story is emerging from Australia as it is being reported that a young girl who was attending Soundwave 2013 received a “massive, awful burn on her forearm” [source] when another audience member lit up a flare in the middle of the crowd. There are conflicting reports on whether this flare was lit during the Metallica set on Stage 1 or the Bring Me The Horizon set on Stage 3.

So far the culprit has not been identified. However, Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah has taken to Twitter to ask for any and all help in identifying the person responsible, even going so far as to offer “…tickets, backstage and cash” [source].

[OMFG] New Couple Uses “Raining Blood” As Wedding Intro

Newly wed couple Dan Phillipps and wife Kinga decided to start their wedding off with a bit of a bang by entering the hall to Slayer‘s “Raining Blood”. In a story to Blabbermouth.net, Phillipps stated, “Slayer has always been a very special band to me. Slayer, Metallica and Anthrax were the reasons I got into heavy metal. I remember first hearing ‘Hell Awaits’ in 1987 and being blown away. I never heard anything like it.

“When I first met Kinga, I didn’t know she was into extreme music. She’s from Poland so I randomly asked her if she heard of Behemoth or Vader. To my surprise, she heard of them and had seen them live in concert a few times. So we instantly clicked. Our second date was a Rotting Christ concert.

“When I was planning our wedding intro, I knew that I didn’t want your typical wedding music for our intro. I spoke to Kinga about it and she agreed. A standard wedding intro just didn’t seem right for my wife and I. Something about the ‘Raining Blood’ intro seemed like the perfect walk-out music for us. I got goosebumps just thinking about it. Most of my friends and family loved our intro. They said it was perfect for my wife and I.
