Newsted Releases Video For “Soldierhead”

Ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has released an official video for “Soldierhead” from his new band Newsted. The song comes from their latest EP Metal (iTunes). The video was directed by Leon Melas in an abandoned factory in California.

In an interview with Sonic Excess, Newsted spoke about the video, stating, “It’s just a simple thing, and I just wanted to capture the band. There is no heavy concept, no literal thing about bullets chasing your head or any of those things. It’s old school metal and most likely will be black and white. It was shot in an old factory. It was a gnarly, dusty, old factory and it had energy. That is what I will describe it as.READ MORE

Lordi To Release New Album ‘To Beast Or Not To Beast’

Finnish hard rockers Lordi have announced that they will be releasing a new album entitled To Beast Or Not To Beast on March 19th via The End Records. The album was recorded at WireWorld Studio in Nashville, TN with producer Michael Wagner (Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row, Megadeth). This album will be the debut for new members Halla on keys and Mana on drums.

Mr. Lordi states, “The road to this album has truly been paved by hardships. However, the new line-up of the band has given us new and fresh touch and an energetic edge to the recording process, and to the album itself.

The album cover painting is actually a part of a larger picture. The original artwork had this vintage- styled lady holding a horned skull, which, however, was not the main point of the art piece. There was something not quite right with the setting, so I made experiments with various versions and framings. Album title was Upgradead at that point in time, and the painting was done with that title in mind.

”But now, with a changed concept of the artwork, the title did not seem to fit anymore. We did not consider it an A-class name either. Our guitarist Amen came up with the final title, which we felt suitable and perfect both for the cover artwork and the album.

Check out the album cover and track list below. READ MORE

Anthrax Pick Replacement Guitarist For Upcoming Tours

Thrash metal legends Anthrax recently announced the shocking news that lead guitarist Rob Caggiano had quit the band, just a month before a heavy touring schedule was set to begin. However, the band also stated that they would not be hosting auditions for a new lead guitarist. The reason for that is now obvious as it has been announced that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will be filling in as lead guitarist while the band tours over the next few months.

Scott Ian states, “Jon is a bro and he’s also a total fucking ripper. I’ve worked with him twice before on side projects and he tears it up. I’m excited to have him on my right burning up the stage with Anthrax. 13′s gonna be a good year.

Donais adds, “I grew up on Anthrax, they’re the thrash scene, they’re one of The Big Four, I’d be crazy to not want to play with them. Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band, and asked if I’d be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place. Rob and I are using Skype to work on solos and other guitar parts, so he’s being great. I also have to give special thanks to my band – Brian, Matt, Jason and Ed – who have been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to do this.

You can see all tour dates that Donais will be on below. READ MORE

[Random Cool] Can You Guess All The Guitarists?

Artist Maxim Dalton painted a poster of 35 of the greatest guitar players ever. While it doesn’t include some famous axe wielders (I don’t see Dimebag Darrell on there), it is a pretty comprehensive painting of guitarists who have shaped and influenced their genres. The painting was released as a limited edition poster but sold out long ago.

But what I want to know is can you identify them all! So head on below to test yourself on your guitar player knowledge! READ MORE

Metallica’s James Hetfield Has A Soundboard. Excuse Me While I Go Make Some Prank Calls

Remember soundboards and how popular they were back in the day? I remember loading up the Hulk Hogan one and pranking some of my pals because it’s just damn funny to keep clicking, “Brother!” over and over again (don’t judge me). Hearing the person on the other end of the line going, “Who is this?!?!” never got old.

Well, it looks like it’s time to make a few more prank calls as Metallica’s James Hetfield has his own soundboard. While it’s not exactly suited for phone calls, I’m sure there are ways to make it work. You can find it here. Have fun Bart Simpson-ing it! READ MORE

It’s Friday and it’s time to get twisted! This week’s Twisted Music Video Of The Week is none other than the smash hit “Zombie” from The Cranberries. The video was directed by Samuel Bayer (who also directed Metallica‘s “Until It Sleeps”, which bears undeniable visual similarities) and mixes band performance, gritty military footage, and Biblical imagery similar to Bosch’s “The Garden Of Earthly Delights”. Metallica To Release ‘Quebec Magnetic’ Live DVD

Legendary metal band Metallica have announced the full details for the upcoming live DVD Quebec Magnetic, which will see a release date of Dec. 10th. Yes boys and girls, the DVD and Blu-ray will be coming out on our very own label in North America! Anthrax Discusses ‘Among The Living’ With Google Play

Anthrax caught up with Google Play to put together an audiobiography telling the story of their 1986 Gold-certified album Among The Living. Guitarist Scott Ian and singer Joey Belladonna went over the history of the album, from the recording process with famed producer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix) to mixing in the Bahamas and the sold-out tour that followed the release. It’s a pretty damn cool interview and well worth checking out here.

Among The Living came out during what might be considered the best year in thrash metal history. Metallica‘s Master Of Puppets, Slayer‘s Reign In Blood, and Megadeth‘s Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying were all released that year.
