Fresh New Pic From ‘Carrie’ Shows Mama’s Protective Side

MGM and Screen Gems are prepping their Carrie remake for release later this year and a new still has emerged featuring Mrs. White taking her daughter home from school.

In theaters October 18, the Kimberly Peirce-directed redo is “A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.” Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday also star.

A Brief Clip From Tomorrow’s ‘Carrie’ Trailer Makes Things Move!!

MGM and Screen Gems’ release the full trailer for their Carrie remake tomorrow, but Entertainment Tonight just aired a brief, high quality tease of it. Some of it looks cool, but I’m not sold on the floating books stuff. Maybe once I see it in the context of the whole trailer! Or… maybe once I see it in the context of the whole film! I roll old school sometimes.

TombRaider

‘Tomb Raider’ Breaks Franchise Sales Records, Film Reboot Now In The Works

It seems as if Crystal Dynamics’ fantastic reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise has been more than critically successful. At GDC last week, studio head Darrell Gallagher revealed the game has sold an impressive 3.4 million units, a new sales record for the franchise. With this success, the planning of a film adaptation has (unsurprisingly) begun.

Crystal Dynamics will be working with Graham King’s GK Films on a reboot of the film franchise after MGM purchased the rights. “The enthusiasm over the recent game release is very encouraging and we can’t wait to bring it to the big screen.” King said. Like the video game, the film will follow a younger Lara in her formative years.

This New ‘Carrie’ Pic Is A Bloody Variation!

MGM and Screen Gems’ Carrie doesn’t come out until the 4th quarter of this year, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a steady trickle of news regarding it between now and then. Case in point? This new still that was released to Empire magazine (Scan via Comic Book Movie). It’s a variation on the previous blood drenched look we got, only the blood here is drying a bit. The vibe is a bit more “scabby.”

The Town that Dreaded Sundown

Ryan Murphy And Jason Blum Head Into ‘The Town That Dreaded Sundown’

Late last year we discussed the fact that MGM, who is also rebooting Carrie, is developing a remake of 1976 horror movie >The Town that Dreaded Sundown. Now it appears that Ryan Murphy (the creator of “American Horror Story”) spoke out about the project this evening at an “AHS” event in Hollywood. It seems that Alfonso Gomez-Rejon might be directing with Murphy and Sinister‘s Jason Blum producing.

The original movie was based on five unsolved murders attributed to the Phantom Killer during three months in 1946 in and around the city of Texarkana on the border between Texas and Arkansas. Pierce shot large parts of the movie in and around Texarkana with extras recruited from local residents. READ MORE

The New, More Human, ‘RoboCop’ Will Look You In The Eye!

The New, More Human, RoboCop Will Look You In The Eye!

I don’t want to be an obnoxious fanboy about this, for all I know it could turn out brilliantly, so I suppose I’ll refrain from judging the impact of this decision until I see the film. But there’s some interesting news concerning Jose Padilha’s remake of RoboCop today. Namely that RoboCop himself will be “more human” and have a visible set of eyes.

Actor Joel Kinnaman told MTV, “‘RoboCop’ is going to be a lot more human. The first movie is one of my favorite movies. I love it. Of course, Verhoeven has that very special tone, and it’s not going to have that tone. It’s a re-imagination of it. There’s a lot of stuff from the original. There are some details and throwbacks, but this version is a much better acting piece… it’s not going to be jaw action. They’re still working on the suit and how it’s going to look, but the visor is going to be see-through. You’re going to see his eyes.

Considering how the plan behind the program in the original RoboCop hinged on the subject not knowing his identity, I’m trying to decide if this throws the concept too far out of whack or not.

Strike Entertainment partners Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing. Josh Zetumer wrote the script. Joel Kinnaman is in the lead role originated by Peter Weller. Sony will distribute the MGM film.

RoboCop will be released on August 9th, 2013. READ MORE
