Katee Sackhoff’s Horror Resume Grows With ‘Oculus’

Katee Sackhoff‘s genre credits continue to grow – Riddick, Haunting in Georgia, Halloween: Resurrection, White Noise 2 and “Battlestar Galactica” – as she will be joining Karen Gillan (“Dr. Who”) sidekick in Oculus, reports Deadline.

Sackhoff will play Marie, the mother to Gillen’s Kaylie character in the horror film. “‘Oculus’ starts a decade after a terrifying family incident left two young children orphans. Although her brother was charged with murder, Kaylie is convinced that a haunted antique mirror is the real perpetrator. Years later, the brother is ready to move on but Kaylie still wants prove that the mirror was responsible for destroying their family.

Director Mike Flanagan co-wrote the script with Jeff Howard. The horror film is being produced by Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans and fully financed by their Intrepid Pictures. Anil Kurian will executive produce for Intrepid. U.S. distribution is being handled by FilmDistrict, and international by Focus Features International. READ MORE

“Dr Who” Star Karen Gillan Toplines Supernatural ‘Oculus’

“Dr. Who” and Outcast star Karen Gillan is set to star in the supernatural pic Oculus for Intrepid, Variety reports.

Mike Flanagan will helm the pic that “centers on a murder that left two children orphans with authorities charging the brother while his sister believed that the true culprit was a haunted antique mirror. Now completely rehabilitated and in his twenties, the brother is ready to move on but his sister is determined to prove that the haunted mirror was responsible for destroying their family.

Flanagan co-wrote the script with Jeff Howard. Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans will produce and are fully financing through Intrepid. Anil Kurian will executive produce for Intrepid. FilmDistrict is handling domestic distribution while Focus Features Intl. is handling foreign sales.

Production is set to start this fall.

FilmDistrict Breaks Haunted ‘Oculus’ Mirror

FilmDistrict (Insidious, Parker, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, and the forthcoming Evil Dead) has acquired Intrepid Pictures’ horror feature Oculus, to be directed by Mike Flanagan (Absentia) from a script he co-wrote with Jeff Howard.

Although authorities charged the brother with murder, his sister believed that the true culprit was a haunted antique mirror. Now completely rehabilitated and in his twenties, the brother is ready to move on but his sister is determined to prove that the haunted mirror was responsible for destroying their family.

Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans will produce and are fully financing the project and the company’s Anil Kurian will executive produce. International sales are being handled by Focus Features International at Cannes. Production is set for a late summer start.

Produced by Fallback Plan Productions and Mali Elfman, Scare Dares will be budgeted at under $1 Million. The film, “ centers on a smartphone app that leads users to known areas of paranormal phenomena in central California. Things go wrong when a group of estranged friends kick off a reunion weekend by visiting ghostly hotspots and engaging in occult dares.

Per Variety, “Producers plan to launch an actual smartphone app that will tie in with the pic, which will be a blend of narrative and “found” footage.READ MORE

Tricia’s husband has been missing for seven years.
