Along with my written coverage of Montreal Comiccon 2012, I was snapping pictures like nobody’s business. Below you’ll find a huge photo gallery full of cosplayers, celebrity guests, horror swag, toys, comics, and more. My personal favorite is the young Batman playing with an Ewok. Check it! READ MORE
The 2012 edition of Montreal Comiccon brought together Trekkies, gamers, cosplayers, and comic fans for the shows 4th annual edition of the show. The con has grown immensely over the past few years, solidifying its spot as one of the largest in Canada. This year, Montreal Comiccon took place in the area known as Old Montreal, situated right by the waterfront, surrounded by aged cobblestone streets and beautiful architecture. Watching Captain America strutting into the distance down a patch of cobblestone bricks is a sight you can only see at Montreal Comiccon.
Unlike the bigger Cons that feature various announcements from publishers and film production houses, the panels at Montreal Comic Con are catered toward the die-hard fans, rather than members of the press. With tons of Q & A sessions, breaking into comics panels, Star Wars droid building sessions, and lots of horror film screenings, there’s really something for everyone.
The main attracting of the 2012 edition was the slew of Stark Trek stars. Fans waited in line for hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for photo opportunities with one of two Captains of the Starship Enterprise, William Shatner and Patrick Stewart. Other special guests this year included were the ever-popular Mike Mignola, Ben Templesmith, Jim Starlin, Darwyn Cooke, Malcom McDowell, Wil Wheaton, James Marsters, Tom Savini, and many more. Check it all out after the jump. READ MORE

After the first issue of The Devil’s Engine I was at a bit of a loss, not nearly as enjoyable as I have come to expect from the B.P.R.D family. Well, after this issue I’ve learned to shut my trap because issue #2 of this three-parter knocked me on my ass. The plot thickens in the “Hell on Earth” epic event, as we learn more of insidious plots cooking in the cauldron, while our unlikely pair of heroes take a stroll done Holy F*ck lane. READ MORE

Despite Mignola’s obsession with all supernatural monsters, vampires (perhaps the most famous of all monsters) have been far and few between in his works. However, in a recent discussion with CBR, Mignola spoke about his plans to change that in the BPRD Universe; the vampires are coming out of hiding. The “The Pickens County Horror” two-parter offered a glimpse into the vampire world of BPRD and next week’s “Transformation of J. H. O’Donnell” the bloodsuckers are back in full force to attack our favorite paranormal investigators. READ MORE
Dark Horse is back with another free motion comic, and this time they are bringing Mike Mognola’s infamous Hellboy series to life. “Hellboy: The Fury” is part of Dark Horse’s initiative, in partnership with Felicia Day’s Geek & Sundry Youtube channel, to deliver brand new motion comics that re-imagine some of their classic works. If you’ve never read the comics, this is a particularly good introduction for two reasons. First, it’s free. Second, you don’t actually have to read. Who doesn’t want to raise a little hell everyone once in a while? Mignola and Acrudi’s “Hell On Earth” event has been absolutely astounding so far. Something is definitely wrong in Pickens County, but the presence of a family of vampires is only the beginning! The two-part B.P.R.D. arc entitled “Pickens County Horror” comes to a thrilling and mysterious ending as agent Vaughn puts the FO in GTFO. As far as the comic realm goes I am relatively new to Hellboy let alone the BPRD books affiliated with the big red bastard. I’ve always been a huge fan of the del Toro films, but I just never got around to reading the source material. When I picked up Dark Horse’s newest BPRD series, BPRD Hell on Earth: The Long Death, I was devastated by the fact that I am so far behind the times! Why wasn’t I reading more of this earlier! Blood and gore galore (see what I did there?), a big mean cat-creature from hell, and the spectral wonder Johann Kraus; where could you go wrong? I think I’ve found my new obsession.
