[TV] “Hannibal” Not Airing 4th Episode Due To Boston Bombings, Cultural Climate

You’re going to have to wait a while to see episode 1.04 of NBC’s “Hannibal”, “Coquilles.” Per Variety, the episode – which features “Molly Shannon’s character brainwashing kids, leading them to kill other children” – has been pulled from NBC’s schedule at Fuller’s request.

Fuller explained that he felt the cultural climate in the country just wasn’t right at the time, “I didn’t want to have anyone come to the show and have a negative experience. Whenever you [write] a story and look at the sensational aspects of storytelling, you think, ‘This is interesting metaphorically, and this is interesting as social commentary.’ With this episode, it wasn’t about the graphic imagery or violence. It was the associations that came with the subject matter that I felt would inhibit the enjoyment of the overall episode… It was my own sensitivity.” Another factor here was apparently Sandy Hook’s re-emergence in the news this week (victim’s parents were in the stands at the Boston Marathon and a gun bill inspired by the tragedy was voted down), and it’s important to note that this episode was shot before that tragedy even took place.

Apparently, you’ll still totally be able to follow Episode 5 despite not seeing Episode 4 (it wasn’t sent to critics, but eps 3 and 5 were). Also, NBC and Fuller will help bridge the gap by providing a package of clips from the show online that trace the character aspects of the episode with commentary from Fuller. I imagine we’ll be seeing this one on Blu or DVD (it’s also airing overseas).

“Hannibal” airs at 10/9c on Thursdays. READ MORE

Scary Movie 5

In the film, snooty, aloof, imperious, and oversexed French dance company director Pierre is putting on a new production. Jody (Tisdale), a Caucasian late-20s mother of two and her late-20s African American friend Kendra (Ash) are both vying for the lead in the production. Jody’s extremely controlling former dancer mother is determined that Jody will have the brilliant career that eluded her. The highly skilled mid-30s Diva veteran dancer with the company, Heather Daltry (Shannon), gets cut from the production and goes berserk.

Scary Movie 5, which is said to be a reboot of sorts, will spoof: Paranormal Activity, Mama, Sinister, Evil Dead, Inception, Black Swan, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and 127 Hours.

New ‘Scary Movie 5′ Images Prove The Film To Be On The Very Cutting Edge Of Humor

Complex has a few new images from Dimension Films’ Scary Movie 5, which opens in theaters April 12. They do little to change my mind about seeing the film.

‘Scary Movie 5′, For People Who Need More Honey Boo Boo Jokes In Their Lives

We’ve got two new TV Spots (Full disclosure, only one of them might be new – I can’t tell because I can’t look at anything from this movie for more than 28 seconds) for Dimension Films’ Scary Movie 5, which opens in theaters April 12. It stars Ashley Tisdale, as well as Terry Crews, Marisa Saks, Erica Ash, Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen, Simon Rex, Molly Shannon, Roland Powell, Heather Locklear and Katt Williams.

I’ve tried to be better about judging these things pre-release, but I just feel like these movies set us back as humans in general. They are the noise we try to drown out at night, they are why we need to meditate and seek solace. They are filling the TMZ sized hole in our souls with temporary glue.

Scary Movie 5, which is said to be a reboot of sorts, will spoof: Black Swan, Paranormal Activity, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Evil Dead and 127 Hours. I’m not sure what the word “reboot” means in the vast ocean of plotlessness that is the Scary Movie franchise, but I’ll let them have it.

Dimension Releases “Super Lame” Version Of ‘Scary Movie 5′ Poster; Pimps Newly Added Spoofs…

The entire internet began piling up on Scary Movie 5 after the incredibly lame new trailer (below) was released last week. According to critics, it looked as if Dimension Films did a bunch of reshoots to cram in spoofs of newer films arriving this year. And it appears they’re correct. A new synopsis promises that you’ll see bad pop culture jokes blended with references to Paranormal Activity, Mama, Sinister, Evil Dead, Inception and Black Swan when it hits theaters on April 12.

But the bizarre story here is that Dimension has just supplied us with a “new” one-sheet, which I’ve personally dubbed the “super friggin’ lame poster.” It’s the exact same one as previously released only all of the “cool”, if you can even call it that, has been removed. Snoop Dog now blows smoke over the creatures face, Charlie Sheen’s hilarious (not really) ghost boner is gone, Katrina Bowden looks less scary, as does Sarah Hyland. Huge fail here, but I guess this was to appease the dreaded MPAA?

Scary Movie 5 is directed by Malcolm Lee who teamed up and worked side by side with comedy director David Zucker. It features pop culture stars Ashley Tisdale, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, Katt Williams, Molly Shannon, Terry Crews, Simon Rex, Jerry O’Connell, Sarah Hyland, Katrina Bowden, Tyler Posey, Shad Moss aka Bow Wow, Kate Walsh, Heather Locklear, Mac Miller and Mike Tyson. Here’s the Official Poster, New Trailer For the Forgotten ‘Scary Movie 5′

Updated with a second trailer: When I saw that actress Ashley Tisdale tweeted out the official one-sheet for Scary Movie 5 (trailer), it literally blew my mind. Why? I legitimately forgot all about this spoofer, especially in the wake of Open Road’s disastrous A Haunted House, one of the most unfunny movies I’ve ever witnessed.

Well, here’s your reminder! Dimension Films’ Scary Movie sequel open in theaters April 12! It stars Tisdale, as well as Terry Crews, Marisa Saks, Erica Ash, Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen, Simon Rex, Molly Shannon, Roland Powell, Heather Locklear and Katt Williams.

It’s from the same producer as the third and fourth Scary Movie sequels, thus I think it’s fair to expect another laugh-free hour and a half filled with dated pop culture jokes. SMFH.

The Trailer For ‘Scary Movie 5′ Makes Me Want To See ‘A Haunted House’ Even More

If you recall, the Wayans brothers are the ones who kick started the Scary Movie franchise with their spoof of Scream back in 2000. After two hilarious films, David Zucker took over and turned it into a pop culture bonanza littered with bad fart jokes. With Dimension’s premiere of the Scary Movie 5 trailer, in theaters April 12, it appears to be more of the same, which is why I’m beyond stoked to see Marlon Wayans’ A Haunted House on January 11. Spring 2013 is going to be a battle of the spoof films, yet I already suspect that A Haunted House got it right. What do you say?

[TV] “Hannibal” Shacks Up With Eddie Izzard

Eddie Izzard (Oceans 12 and 13, Dressed To Kill, Velvet Goldmine) is joining NBC’s contemporary Hannibal Lecter series, “Hannibal,” as a guest star. He’ll be playing Hannibal Lecter’s cellmate. Wonder how that will work out for him?

Like “Hannibal”‘s Caroline Dhavernas, Gina Torres, Molly Shannon, Chelan Simons and Ellen Greene, Izzard previously worked with “Hannibal” exec producer Bryan Fuller on last months “Mockingbird Lane” pilot turned Halloween special.

“Hannibal,” which is based on characters from Thomas Harris’ “Red Dragon,” centers on the budding relationship between FBI agent Will Graham (played by Hugh Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship. It’s slated to bow at midseason.

[Casting Bites] Spoof Edition: ‘Scary Movie 5′ and ‘The Starving Games’

Maiara Walsh (above) has nabbed the female lead as the spoof version of Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen in The Starving Games, a comedic take on The Hunger Games, says THR. Spoofmeisters Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the duo behind garbage like Date Movie, Meet the Spartans and Vampires Suck, wrote the script and are directing the parody. The script pokes fun of not just the Suzanne Collins book series but also The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes and the finale of the Harry Potter franchise. Walsh will play the lead, a character named Kantmiss Evershot.

Katt Williams (inside) has landed a starring role in Dimension’s Scary Movie 5, shooting for release on April 12, 2013 (against Evil Dead), the site also reports. The actor, rapper and stand-up comedian will join Lindsay Lohan, Mike Tyson, Heather Locklear and Charlie Sheen in the fifth outing of the popular spoof franchise. Kate Walsh, Ashley Tisdale and Lil Duval also co-star. Malcolm Lee is directing Scary Movie 5 from a script penned by David Zucker. The plot involves Three dancers — one veteran performer and two upstarts who are also best friends — vie for the lead in a new production from a snooty, aloof, imperious, and oversexed director. It will spoof Black Swan, Paranormal Activity, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and 127 Hours. READ MORE

[TV] “Hannibal” Finds Yet Another Victim

Gina Torres (Matrix Reloaded, “Serenity”, “The Vampire Diaries”) is joining NBC’s contemporary Hannibal Lecter series, “Hannibal,” as the wife of Laurence Fishburne’s G-Man Jack Crawford, TVLine reports.

Like “Hannibal”‘s Caroline Dhavernas, Molly Shannon, Chelan Simons and Ellen Greene, Torres previously worked with “Hannibal” exec producer Bryan Fuller: She played beautiful grifter Lila Robinson in Fuller’s “Pushing Daisies.”

[TV News Bites] Photos From Episode 5 Of “Dexter”, That $10 Million “Munsters” Inspired “Mockingbird Lane” Pilot Could Be A TV Movie, America To Get Its Own “Strange Calls” And Molly Shannon Joins “Hannibal”

First off we have 13 images from Episode 7.05 of “Dexter”, entitled “Swim Deep”, that’s set to air a few weeks from now. They include a few more looks at Yvonne Strahovski in character and a couple of skeletons. Those can be found below the jump.

Next, via THR, is a more in-depth look at situation at NBC wherein Bryan Fuller’s “Munsters” remake “Mockingbird Lane” has reportedly been floundering. It’s important to remember that Fuller has denied claims that the show is in trouble, but the report is somewhat damning. The whole thing could be a TV Movie, or scrapped. “NBC has a big decision to make regarding its high-profile reboot of “The Munsters”. After two years in development and a pilot that sources say cost a whopping $10 million, the network is said to be unhappy with Mockingbird Lane (named for the famed family’s 1313 address) and is on the verge of scrapping the whole project… Sources say the network could choose to air the completed pilot as a Halloween special (either this year or next), or it might decide to shoot extra footage and package it as a made-for-TV movie for international buyers.” Click here for the full report.

America will get its own “Strange Calls” The half-hour comedy from writer Donick Cary (“New Girl”), director Ruben Fleisher (Zombieland) and producer Aaron Kaplan (“The Neighbors”), has landed at ABC. Based on an Australian series, it “centers on good-hearted, bumbling Boston cop Toby Banks, who is exiled to night duty on Nantucket island, where strange, unexplainable occurrences become the norm nine months out of the year.

Last but not least, SNL alum Molly Shannon (Superstar) has joined Bryan Fuller’s “Hannibal”, though the nature of her role is being kept under wraps. All can’t be bad between NBC and Fuller as that project seems to be pretty healthy.

[BD Review] ‘Hotel Transylvania’ Made For The MTV Generation

Fans of classic creature features may want to book a trip to Hotel Transylvania, Sony Pictures Animation’s 3-D horror comedy that features the voice acting of Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, David Spade, Jon Lovitz, Cee Lo Green, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon and Selena Gomez. While the film leaves much to be desired, it’s a pretty focused comedy that does carry a few laughs, along with an incredible amount if energy.

In the film Dracula opens a five-stake resort in the hopes of giving monsters a safe place to be themselves. Every year, he opens the hotel alongside his most precious event: the birthday of his young daughter Mavis (her 118th, to be exact!). This year, however, a human stumbles into the party and causes everything to go wrong… for Drac.

Hotel Transylvania caters to the MTV generation’s lack of attention, and blitzes through the gates without a breath. The characters are introduced at lightning speed, and many of the set pieces are injected with the same energy. There’s even a slight Meta vibe (that occasionally goes a bit too far) as Dracula’s party is constantly referenced as “old” and “outdated.” The pace is what keeps this generic fable interesting, moving between characters and set pieces in a way to keep it visual fresh.

And while the main story may be outdated, there’s an injection of life in the way the ideas are presented. One of the cooler aspects is that the characters actually leave the hotel and enter real/modern world. It’s unclear if the writers have any social commentary, or if they’re just going through the motions (I suspect the latter), but there’s an interesting sense of space created throughout. Huge props go out to the digital animation team for creating this world, and pushing the boundaries of animation. The castle is absolutely gorgeous, as are all of the other background drawings. The characters themselves have a modern feel, albeit some of the jokes are focused on Dracula being an old fart.

The biggest disappointment is that it’s obviously a film made for young teens, mostly void of any adult humor. The writing lacks any sort of real punch, but is cutesy enough to warm the hearts of some parents out there. Horror fans? ParaNorman, while I dislike the film, was more aimed towards the horror audience. Although Hotel Transylvania is way more focused, entertaining, and isn’t trying to be something it’s not.

Hotel Transylvania isn’t really for the average Bloody Disgusting reader, but fans of the classic universal monsters will enjoy seeing their favorite creature on screen, and the jokes that accompany them. The 3-D feels a bit unnecessary, so check this one out of home video.
