Prepare To Have Your Blackened Hearts Melted By The ‘Metaldudes Cats Book’

In an effort to help prove that the metal community is not filled with mindless, hate-filled, angry men, author/photographer Alexandra Crockett is putting together a photography book entitled Metaldudes Cats Book that showcases some of the most brutal and visionary members of the West coast metal community with their darling, adorable little balls of fur: their cats.

Crockett comments, “Metaldudes Cats Book challenges stereotypes of masculinity and the metal culture. I think we can all agree that cat photos and videos are an integral part of the Internet. Metaldudes Cats Book combines three loves that have a global reach: Kitties, Metal, and Dudes. A love of kitties binds the entire world together, even tough guys who listen to brutal, harsh music.

Isis, Xasthur, Atriarch, Black Goat, Book of Black Earth, Harassor, Lord Time, Skeletonwitch, King Dude, Morbid Angel, Anhedonist, Thrones, Lightning Swords of Death, Municipal Waste, Holy Grail, Nausea, Exhumed, Phobia, Murder Construct, Cattle Decapitation, and Gypsyhawk are only a few of the bands that have already volunteered to be photographed with their kitties.

NPR’s “All Things Considered” Tackles Maryland Deathfest

Perhaps it’s because I don’t listen to NPR as often as I should but I rarely hear that they cover rock or metal. That’s why I think it’s interesting and exciting that the program “All Things Considered” decided to give coverage to the Maryland Deathfest, which is the largest metal festival in North America. The event, which starts today (Thursday) and goes through Sunday evening, will see such acts as Autopsy, Saint Vitus, Godflesh, Morbid Angel, Electric Wizard, and many more. You can hear the NPR program here.

Tickets for the event are still available here. READ MORE

MTViggy Conducts Interview With Nader Sadek

MTV has announced a new property entitled MTViggy.com. The purpose of this property is to discuss emerging music from around the world in various genres. Personally, I love the idea. I think that it gives people a chance to not only hear music that they might not have heard before, but to also get an idea of what that artist is trying to convey through their music.

One of their first artists is Nader Sadek, who is based out of New York and has made installations and masks for bands such as Mayhem and Sunn O))). Having worked with these types of musicians for a long time, it was inevitable that he would release a metal album of his own. The album features Rune Ericksen (guitarist of Mayhem), Steve Tucker (ex-vocalist of Morbid Angel), Flo Mounier (drummer of Cryptopsy), and a whole slew of other badass guests.
You can check out MTViggy’s interview with Nader HERE.

Original: Most Anticipated Metal Albums Of 2011

With the recent release of Nola sludge legends Crowbar’s much anticipated new album, Sever The Wicked Hand, I started to think about what other huge albums 2011 has to offer the metalheads among us. With new albums from genre heavyweights like Atheist, Fear Factory, and Agalloch turning last year into a seriously stellar year for metal, 2010 is going to be hard to top, but here are 10 (+2) albums that I think will give 2011 more than just a fighting chance. Nader Sadek Announces Debut Album ‘In The Flesh’

New York-based visual artist Nader Sadek has announced his collaboration with Steve Tucker (ex-Morbid Angel), Rune Erickson (ex-Mayhem/Ava Inferi), and Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy) for the upcoming full-length album “Nader Sadek: In The Flesh” to be released on January 11th via newly launched Greyhaze Records (with worldwide distribution through a renowned metal label tba). An audio manifestation of Sadek’s acclaimed visual work (Mayhem, Sunn O)))), the project also features Krallice bassist Nick McMaster on the entirety of the album as well as guest performances from Attila Csihar (Mayhem, Sunn 0))), Tony Norman (X-Terrorizer, Monstrosity), Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation), Mike Lerner (Behold… the Arctopus) and Destructhor (Morbid Angel, Zyklon, Myrkskog).
Says Sadek, ‘My general association with death metal deals with the notion of false perceptions, and how great individuality can be smothered by the weight of an overwhelming environment. This idea is ever-present throughout all my work. Each of the players in this album played key roles in their respective bands, facing difficult challenges, and yet taking their bands to higher levels. Their talent as well as their tenacity has always intrigued me. As such, they fit perfectly in this project.’
A Sadek-directed video for the song “Nigredo In Necromance” (the first of several visual accompaniments to the project) made its premiere recently on Brooklyn Vegan and a live performance is scheduled in New York City around the albums January 2011 release date.
