[Web Series] “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” Sequel To Tell Origin Stories

It was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con this past July that writer/director Kevin Tancharoen would return for a second season of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series. “I can break the silence and tell you guys what it’s going to be about. It’s going to be about the actual Mortal Kombat tournament this time,” said Tancharoen.

Bloody Disgusting has just learned exclusively that the new series will tell the origins of various characters from Bi Han to Kuai Liang. While we’ll learn of the backgrounds of the various cast of characters, we’ll also see them find them fighting for the right to control the Earthrealm. Shooting begins November 28 in Los Angeles.

Season One of the 9-episode series from Tancharoen (“Mortal Kombat: Rebirth”) expands the mythos of the popular Mortal Kombat video game franchise and currently has garnered millions of hits on YouTube.

“Mortal Kombat: Legacy” takes place before the events of the original game and tells the background stories of several characters from the franchise, culminating in their reasons for participating in the upcoming tenth Mortal Kombat tournament, on which the first game was based. The episodes in the anthology are non-linear with minimal continuity, and each devoted to the story of a specific character or characters.-Wiki READ MORE

WATCH: ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy’ Episode 4 With Kitana And Mileena

The latest episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy has gone live, featuring a whole slew of new characters – Kitana, Mileena, Shao Kahn, Queen Sindel AND Baraka – and our first look at director Kevin Tancharoen’s interpretation of Edenia. The episode is set outside of the “real world” entirely, and has quite a few animation sequences (most likely because of budget constraints). Despite looking extremely cheap (more so than past episodes), I think the epic scope they’re setting up is really admirable (and fun!).

INTERVIEW: ‘Mortal Kombat Legacy’ Director Kevin Tancharoen

Director Kevin Tancharoen has bloody thumbs. Its clear from the amount of time and effort he has poured into his latest creation Mortal Kombat: Legacy. This is a labor of love sewn from an encyclopedic knowledge of finishing moves. But don’t worry about his getting bogged down in details or following the well treaded horror of another poor video game adaptation. Tancharoen sees the important thing in a translation hammering down the feel and key plot points of a video game and then exploring them in a clean cinematic narrative.
