‘My Sucky Teen Romance’ Vampire Exam!

MPI Media Group’s My Sucky Teen Romance, the breakthrough feature film from 18-year-old writer-director Emily Hagins (interview), is now on DVD and Blu-ray. We’ve landed an exclusive new look at the film where the gang check to see if their friend is a vampire.

My Sucky Teen Romance is the third feature written and directed by Hagins, who made her debut – at age 12(!) – with the horror film Pathogen. Working out of Austin, Tex., Hagins has created an original new movie about “a group of teens whose normal romantic awkwardness becomes compounded when they discover that some of the kids they’ve just met at a sci-fi convention are honest-to-goodness neck-biting vampires.

The young cast includes Tina Rodriguez (Machete, Inglourious Basterds), Devin Bonneacute’e (TV’s “Chase”), Lauren Lee and, in their movie debuts, Elaine Hurt and Patrick Delgado. READ MORE

‘My Sucky Teen Romance’ Hits Blu/DVD/VOD Tomorrow! We Catch Up With Writer/Director Emily Hagins

MPI Media Group’s My Sucky Teen Romance, the breakthrough feature film from writer-director Emily Hagins (head here for a more in-depth interview), will be released on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, September 4. It’s also going to be available on iTunes (link here) and most VOD platforms.

I recently caught up with Hagins at the Los Angeles premiere of the film – literally seconds after the movie started – and we talked about the long journey of bringing MSTR to the screen (I think I saw the original trailer almost 2 years ago). “As of this moment I’ve just intro’d the film and it started about 15 seconds ago. I’m probably the most nervous right now and I’ll calm down in a few minutes. I just hope people have fun with it and have a good time with it and accept it for what it is, because it’s not a big budget blockbuster or anything like that. But I think the people who are going to enjoy it will enjoy it. It’s exciting to share it with people. Being done with it is pretty surreal because people were asking me what my new project was 6 months ago – and there was still so much MSTR stuff that needed to be done. So being able refer to this as a thing of the past is interesting because we sold this film over a year ago and it’s only now just finishing up.”

If you haven’t seen the film, you should check it out. She’s only getting started and is definitely a talent you want to keep our eye on. READ MORE

Young ‘Zombie Girl’ Debuts Trailer for ‘My Sucky Teen Romance’

Young Emily Hagins is taking a stab once again at the horror genre with My Sucky Teen Romance, a new vampire movie currently filming in Austin, Texas. Hagins was the subject of of the documentary Zombie Girl: The Movie, which follows here exploits at the age of 12(!) attempting to make a zombie movie. If you’ve seen the doc, you’ll know what a learning experience it was. Now, Hagins released the first trailer from My Sucky Teen Romance with hopes of finding a little more money (approximately $5,000) to completel the film. Here’s the logline: “In a culture that is currently overrun with romanticized vampires, it is up to four geeky teenagers to defend their friend and beloved sci-fi convention from a group of very real, and very blood-thirsty vampires.” I personally can’t wait to see what she can deliver at the age of 17, already loaded with real-life experience.
