[Video Review] Don Allen's Take On 'My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 3'

[Video Review] Don Allens Take On My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 3

Yesterday I gave you an update on the airing of My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 3 in which I called the film “harmless fun”. “While it’s obviously not terrifying or anything remotely resembling it, it is a fun little slasher.

Well, BD’s Don Allen has a video review for you and he’s much more down on the film than I am. And while I enjoyed myself more than he did, I can’t really argue with many of the points he makes.

Awkward’s Jillian Rose Reed is among the new cast members joining the franchise’s original stars, Lauren McKnight and Kirsten Prout. Ryan Sypek, Niko Pepaj, Ben Winchell, Onira Tares and Autumn Dial round out the movie’s cast.

In Part 3, “Skye (McKnight) and Sienna (Reed) are on the road to their first year of college in New York City when they receive a call from Skye’s estranged sister, Alex (Prout). They decide to pay Alex a visit and find out that her Sweet 16 is that very evening. And, you can imagine what that means… teen bloodshed.” Produced by Pop Films, the creative team behind the first two movies returns for the third installment. They include director Jacob Gentry, screenwriters Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, executive producers Maggie Malina and Alexander Motlagh, and producer Chris White.

TV: MTVs My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 3 Airs Tonight

Last night I attended the premiere of My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 3. Being a virgin to this series, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had heard that Part 1 was pretty good and that Part 2 was somewhat disappointing, but that’s about it.

While I still don’t know where Part 3 falls in that spectrum, I’m happy to report that I had a good time with the film. While it’s obviously not terrifying or anything remotely resembling it, it is a fun little slasher. McKnight is an appealing heroine and for every major logic issue, there’s a nice dig at the ‘Jersey Shore’/Ed Hardy mentality courtesy of Niko Pepaj. He plays a character so obviously inspired by “The Situation” that you’re praying for him to die (that’s a compliment). While I obviously can’t heap Cabin In The Woods type praise on the film, if you’re looking for some harmless fun tonight, you could do worse than tuning in. Bonus? If you and your friends take a shot every time someone says “don’t play me” or “I’m not playing you” or a variation thereof, you’ll have your own tidy little body count by the end of the night.

TV: First Look at Third 'My Super Psycho Sweet 16'

TV: First Look at Third My Super Psycho Sweet 16

I was a pretty big fan of MTV’s made for TV movie “My Super Psycho Sweet 16,” a fun slasher that had some pretty gruesome kills for a telefilm.

The sequel, while a disappointment, was successful enough to breed a third film making it a trilogy. The official Facebook page was updated with the first ever photo and a little statement: “Lauren McKnight aka Skye Rotter sent this photo from the set of Part 3 just for you guys!

Scott Thomas and Jed Elinoff are writing the third installment that’s said to be the bloodiest, craziest, most intense party Skye has ever attended.

TV: 'My Super Psycho Sweet 16' Becomes a Trilogy

I thought MTV’s first original horror production, My Super Psycho Sweet 16, was pretty great. The 2009 slasher performed so well that the cabler ordered a sequel that aired last year. The sequel was pretty disappointing, but I have faith that the franchise can restore some of its promise with a third entry, one that was officially announced this morning via the franchise’s official Facebook.

Hey Super Psycho Fans! Wanted to share some exciting news you. Scott Thomas and Jed Elinoff are writing the third installment to the ‘My Super Psycho Sweet 16′ trilogy and it’s going to be the bloodiest, craziest, most intense party Skye has ever attended! If you want to know WTF is going on, keep checking back for further updates!

My suggestions include getting a new cinematographer and upping the ante with the gore. This is now a trilogy, it’s time to take it to the next level.
