Heart-Shaped Box

The book, published in February, centers on a rock star obsessed with the occult who buys a suit advertised at an online auction site as haunted by its dead owner’s ghost. He ultimately is forced to confront the ghost and the demons of his own past.

Aging rock star Judas Coyne is a collector of bizarre and macabre artifacts: a used hangman’s noose, a snuff film, and rare books on witchcraft. When he purchases a suit billed in an online auction as the haunted clothes of a recently deceased man, Coyne finds more than he bargained for. Everywhere he looks he sees the twisted spirit of an old and evil man following him and dangling a deadly razor on a chain. He learns that the suit belonged to Craddock McDermott, the stepfather of a former lover who committed suicide shortly after Coyne tossed her out of his life. McDermott, a professional hypnotist prior to his death, swore to destroy Coyne’s rock-star life of self-indulgence to avenge her death. The behind-the-scenes look at stardom alongside the frightening pyrotechnics of McDermott’s ghost will draw in teens who really enjoy a good scare. But like all good ghost stories, Hill also crafts a deftly plotted mystery as McDermott’s true motivations and powers unfold.

The Graveyard Book

Hear this tragic tale: a sleeping family, a talented murderer, and an adventurous toddler—orphaned, but not assassinated. Small and alone, by accident and luck he escapes the scene of the crime and climbs a grassy hill to safety. At the top of the hill the boy finds a fence, and on the other side, a dark, quiet place.

Arriving on VOD and in limited theaters June 28 is Neil Jordan’s Byzantium, which was acquired by IFC Films out of the Toronto International Film Festival. A new UK quad has hit with some rather glowing praise, with one blurb in particular claiming it’s the best vampire film since Let The Right One In (I’ve got an open mind, but we’ll see about that).

Starring Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, Caleb Landry Jones, Danny Mays, Bradley James, Sam Riley, Jonny Lee Miller and Tom Hollander, the pic is about a pair of women who claim to be vampire siblings.

Thumb Through This Bloody Trailer For Neil Jordan’s ‘Byzantium’

Arriving on VOD and in limited theaters June 28 is Neil Jordan’s Byzantium, which was acquired by IFC Films out of the Toronto International Film Festival. A new trailer has hit – and a really dig it! It doesn’t seem like a terribly new take on vampires, but it does seem like a take that we haven’t seen in a long time. Classic, regal, sexy, bloody and stately. It’s sort of like the international trailer we had a few months back, but I like this version more.

Ron Howard To Tackle The Dilemma Of ‘The Graveyard Book’?

Back in April we reported that Disney had picked up the rights to Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book and that director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) had dropped off the project. Coraline director Henry Selick was attach to helm for a while before he abdicated the throne as well. Now there are reports that the project is no longer stop motion and that Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) might be stepping aboard.

Per THR, “In a new twist, Graveyard now has been reconfigured as a live-action movie, and sources say Ron Howard is in negotiations to direct.

In the book, “instead of a boy raised by wolves in the jungle, Gaiman tells the story of the last surviving child of a murdered family raised by ghosts in a graveyard.

Howard will oversee the development of a new script.

Disney Digs ‘The Graveyard Book’

Graveyard Book42712 Disney Digs The Graveyard Book

If you’re a fan of Coraline (or any of Neil Gaiman’s other works) you might want to extend your health insurance policy until around 2014 because that’s when you might finally see The Graveyard Book hit the silver screen. Disney has picked up the rights to Gaiman’s gothic children’s version of The Jungle Book.

Per Deadline,”Disney has just made a high six figure deal for The Graveyard Book, the bestselling children’s title by Neil Gaiman. The book, which won the Newberry Medal among other awards, is a riff on Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Gaiman’s works include Coraline, The Sandman and American Gods. The book attracted attention at every studio upon release, and it was optioned for a large fee by UK Effects House Framestore. They had Neil Jordan attached to direct, but never got it off the ground, even though they kept renewing the option.

So it looks like Jordan is off this thing and they’re on the hunt for a new director. In the book, “instead of a boy raised by wolves in the jungle, Gaiman tells the story of the last surviving child of a murdered family raised by ghosts in a graveyard.

Who would you like to see direct this thing?

The youngest, Eleanor, goes to school.

During a truth exercise in her drama class, Eleanor confesses that she has been alive for over two hundred years and has survived by drinking human blood. Her classmates think she is utterly crazy and Mint, her teacher, puts her in touch with the school counsellor. He tries to get to the bottom of her vampire delusion, thinking it an epic and compelling psychosis. Why would anyone want to be undead?READ MORE
