Another “The Walking Dead Theme Goes Metal” Video For You

Apparently there is something about Bear McCreary’s theme for The Walking Dead that brings out the metal in people. Below is YouTube user Bryce Goertzen‘s rockin’ cover of the now infamous theme. Give it a watch and lemme know what you think!

Personally, I think it’s a bit too shredtastic and in-your-face but I’ll give the guy a few things: 1) Those are some seriously practiced guitar faces/poses. I think he’s got one of those ballet studio mirrors that spans a whole wall in his room just so he can see how metal he looks. 2) Anyone that has a Jeff Loomis Schecter guitar is okay in my book. I’ve always wanted one of those guitars but that could be because I think it’ll magically transform me into a songwriter of Nevermore caliber. Delusions of grandeur, I know, but one can hope. [News Bites] Lance Henriksen For ‘Nevermore’; ‘The Call’ Gets Rated “R”; Universal Announces ‘Mercy’

In super weird late news, TriStar’s The Call, pictured, in theaters March 15, has been rated “R” for violence, disturbing content and some language.” In the film, “When veteran 911 operator, Jordan (Halle Berry), takes a life-altering call from a teenage girl (Abigail Breslin) who has just been abducted, she realizes that she must confront a killer from her past in order to save the girl’s life.

Universal Pictures has provided us with the official synopsis and cast for Mercy, a supernatural thriller from The Haunting in Connecticut‘s Peter Cornwell. “Based on a short story by Stephen King, Mercy tells the tale of two young boys (“The Walking Dead’s” Chandler Riggs and Super 8’s Joel Courtney) who move with their mother to take care of their dying grandmother at her decrepit farmhouse. When they suspect that the elderly woman they love has encountered a dark spirit, they fear she might not be the only one who won’t make it through the summer alive. Once George (Riggs) and Buddy McCoy (Courtney) arrive at their Gramma Mercy’s (Shirley Knight), what they find inside her 150-year-old home is nothing short of terrifying. As the brothers experience deeply disturbing phenomena they believe to be the work of an ancient witch, they must fight for their lives and overcome the evil forces threatening their family. Shirley Knight, Frances O’Connor, Mark Duplass and Dylan McDermott also star.

Lastly, genre icon Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Pumpkinhead; pictured below) is starring in Nevermore, a supernatural horror thriller written and being directed by Dean C. Jones, writes THR. Jason Cook and Valerie Azlynn also are starring in the movie, shooing in Graham, N.C. “The movie centers on a couple who experience paranormal activity involving dead children when they move to an estate in Massachusetts.” Henriksen will play a parish priest whom the couple turn to, but the move is a mistake because the priest already knows all about resurrected children. Hear Demo Of New Killswitch Engage Song “No End In Sight”

A demo version of metalcore band Killswitch Engage‘s song entitled “No End In Sight” has leaked onto the internet, resulting in the band performing the track live. It is the first track to feature original KSE vocalist Jesse Leach on front vocals since he left the band after the release of 2002′s Alive Or Just Breathing (he did guest vocals on two tracks on 2004′s The End Of Heartache). The track is a rough demo and, according to Adam Dutkiewicz in an interview with Guitar World, “It’s actually the one tune that’s pretty different from the other stuff. Overall the rest of the album is a little faster, a little meaner, a little growlier — thrashy but with lots of clean parts. We’re going a little more extreme this time.” You can hear “No End In Sight” below.

The band is currently in the studio mixing their upcoming album with producer Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Exodus, Nevermore). The as-of-yet untitled album will be released sometime in early 2013 via Roadrunner Records.

Killswitch Engage will be performing Alive Or Just Breathing in its entirety on tour in a few weeks. Support will come from Shadows Fall and Acaro. Check here for all tour dates. READ MORE

Ex-Nevermore Guitarist Jeff Loomis Unveils New Song “A Liar’s Chain”

Jeff Loomis (who is easily one of my favorite guitarists playing today) has put out a stream of a new song entitled “A Liar’s Chain”. The song was recorded with his current touring line up of Joe Nurre (guitar and vocals), Anup Sastry (drums) and Greg Macklin (bass). You can check out the song below.

Loomis writes, “A Liar’s Chain is the first of three songs that I recorded with my band to officially debut online. We started playing it live on our last US run and it seemed to go over really well with fans. I had so much fun recording ‘Surrender’ with Ihsahn on vocals for my last solo album that I wanted to do more songs like that. Joe Nurre, who has been playing guitar in my band for the last year or so, has a pretty killer death metal voice, so I thought it would be perfect to do some more stuff like this with him as well as the rest of the guys.

I’m really looking forward to getting over to Europe again. I have so much fun there. The Euroblast tour and festival has some amazing musicians on it, which is going to be really special for me as well, as I love watching and hearing great bands play. We’re going to be playing ‘A Liar’s Chain’ as well as one other new song with Joe singing. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Jeff Loomis will be touring Europe on the Euroblast 2012 tour with labelmates Monuments, Vidhjarta, and Stealing Axion. Check below for the tour dates. READ MORE

Exclusive Video Premiere: Nevermore ‘Emptiness Unobstructed’

Bloody-Disgusting is thrilled to exclusively premiere the video for ‘Emptiness Unobstructed’, the first single off of the new Nevermore album, ‘The Obsidian Conspiracy’! The video is directed by Nigel Crane (Lacuna Coil, Slipknot, Pitchshifter). Here is what singer Warrel Dane had to say about the shoot:

“Working with director Nigel Crane was a great experience. We spent a day walking around the white cliffs in Dover the day before the London show and we couldn’t possibly be happier with the end result. The live part was shot at the O2 Academy Islington in London and we only performed the song twice that night so we had to make these takes count, so we went all out. It was pretty amazing that most of the audience knew all of the words even though we were a number of days away from the album’s release. Thanks for checking this out and we hope you enjoy it.”

Album Review: I Declare War ‘Malevolence’

‘Malevolence’, the third full length release by Seattle, Washington Tech-Death metal band I Declare War, is a solid release with 11-tracks of blistering, down-tuned heaviness. The lyrics are just as in-your-face as the music (should you be able to understand them) and if you’re feeling particularly pissed-off at the government, religion, etc…, this may just be the album you need to get some of that aggression out.

Nevermore’s Warrel Dane on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal Tonight with Dave Mustaine!

Warrel Dane (vocalist of Nevermore) will join SiriusXM Liquid Metal channel’s Jose Mangin on the air tonight at 8PM EST for a very candid and in-depth interview covering a plethora of topics including how this new album came together, working with Dave Mustaine, horror movie recommendations and reforming the legendary Sanctuary line-up. Fans will also get treated to a few new tracks off The Obsidian Conspiracy, which have yet to be played anywhere else.
Dane further states: “The Obsidian Conspiracy is finally here. I know it seems like a long time between records but for us it doesn’t seem that long. Lots of touring for the last one, a DVD and a couple solo records kind of filled the gap. There were a lot of trials and tribulations in all our lives during the process of creating this, and it’s all there in the music. Some of it is furious and angry while some of it is solemn and reflective. Get ready for the tour because we’re firing on all cylinders and ready to destroy!”

Album Review: Nevermore ‘The Obsidian Conspiracy’

Five years ago, an album came out that took over my CD player for the better half of the summer: ‘This Godless Endeavor’ by Seattle, Washington metal band Nevermore. So, to say that I was excited for a new Nevermore album after a five-year wait is somewhat of an understatement. So, my thoughts on the album, you ask? Well, head on past the jump to find out!
