COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of November 30th 2011

Can you believe it? December is already upon us, which marks the beginning of the end of the year, and of course the holiday season. I’ve been hinting at it for the past few weeks but it has truly arrived in full swing with creepy mall Santa’s and terrible x-mas music. Now, it’s really time to get out those comic wish lists. In the next few weeks I will try to focus on some of the major series that were released over the past year…and stay tuned for out BEST OF THE YEAR features coming soon! This week brings on the newest issues of HELLRAISER, ANIMAL MAN, and the complete collected edition of the Luna brothers’ fantastic horror series GIRLS.

With the ever-increasing number of books coming out between the tie-ins, the
crossovers, and the new series, we’ve got to limit our lists for the week somehow. Rather than cramming so many previews down your throat that you barely breathe, we present you with our ten most anticipated books of the week. So feast your eyes on these! Whether you’ve been into comics since you were a young’un, or you’re new to the game, we’re here to help you decide which books to pick up. Read on for the skinny…

COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of October 26th 2011

For horror nuts like us who thrive off of suspense, gore, and a good old-fashioned ghost story, there is no better time of the year than Halloween. There’s just something about the chilly fall breeze, the naked trees, the wind that whirls, calling out to the dead. This week is the perfect time to nestle up in your favorite chair by the window with a brand new horror story.

COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of October 19th 2011

Welcome back to COMICS TO FEAST ON! As we venture further into the fall season it means two things. First, the conclusion to major events like, Fear Itself. Second, and perhaps more pertinent, is the approach of All Hallows Eve. With Halloween coming up in just a few weeks comic publishers see it as their duty to release whole bunch of new horror comics and graphic novels to bloody up the shelves this month. Be on the look out for these horror stories, many of the indie books look to be quite the fright fest.

COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of October 5th 2011

Welcome back to COMICS TO FEAST ON! Everyone can rest easy now that the anticipation of The New 52 has subsided. No more number 1’s, all we can do now is sit back and enjoy the ride as the DCnU carries us forth into a new era. But, enough romanticism, let’s get on to some comics!

GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK: Lonmonster – ‘Animal Man’ #2

Last month’s ish of Animal Man was probably the biggest shock of the DC relaunch, and hands down, one of the best new books. Lemire’s talent shines through once again to bring us an exceedingly disturbing tale about Buddy Baker’s life as a superhero that people don’t seem to take seriously. Now that his family is involved in the mess of things, it seems he will have no choice but to revert back to his A-Man uni and give in to the mysterious force known as “The Red”. The first issue was a wonderful introduction to the character, horrifying, and had one of the best cliffhanger endings of the year. Foreman’s distinctive art style only adds to the genius and terror of the book. Lemire and Foreman’s modernized vision of Animal Man is everything we need in contemporary comics. COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of September 14th 2011

This week marks the second coming of DC’s New 52! Last week the anticipation finally ended and we can rest assured knowing that there are great comics coming out of the initially mixed-emotion reboot. Highlights from last week’s crop were Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Detective Comics, Action Comics, and Batwing. These bad boys are already selling out all over the world, even showing up on ebay going for more than a strand of Alex Trebek’s long lost moustache. It couldn’t be a better time to be a comic enthusiast.

Obviously there are loads of other comics coming out this week from other publishers, but in honor of such a milestone event, most of the books in this week’s COMICS TO FEAST ON are from DC’s New 52 lineup. Now I know you won’t be buying all 52 new series so let us know which books you can’t wait for!

With the ever-increasing number of books coming out between the tie-ins, the crossovers, and the new series, we’ve got to limit our list of comics for the week somehow. Rather than focus on every major comic hitting the shelves I’ll narrow it down to ten books that stand out from the rest. Whether you’ve been into comics since you were a young’un, or you’re new to the game, I’m here to help you decide which books to read. Read on for the skinny…

COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of September 7th 2011

This is not just any ordinary week in the comic book world, friends. Although last week officially marked the beginning of the DC New 52, this week they’ve got tons of brand new #1’s heading your way! These comics are selling out quicker than backstage passes to a Justin Bieber concert, so don’t miss out on the fun! Obviously there are loads of other comics coming out this week from other publishers, but in honor of such a milestone event, most of the books in this week’s COMICS TO FEAST ON are from DC’s New 52 lineup (this will likely be the case for most of September). Now I know you won’t be buying all 52 new series so let us know which books you can’t wait for!

GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK: Lonmonster – ‘Animal Man’ #1

This week has without question been the toughest week to choose a single book for my staff pick. However, after reading countless blogs, articles, and watching numerous interviews about the New 52 there was one book that stood out above the rest. That book is none other than fellow Canadian Jeff Lemire’s Animal Man. Lemire has received a lot of attention over the past year with his Vertigo ongoing series, Sweet Tooth, and his collected edition of Essex County, nominated for Best Canadian Read. Now, Lemire ventures off into a darker, yet oddly vibrant world to bring back one of the most notorious characters in the DCU. Lemire promises that this is not only a superhero book, but it’s equally a horror story that really dives deep into the abyss of the DC universe. Animal Man is one of the first overtly deemed superhero/horror comics in a long time, and it’s already stolen the hearts of many. Read on for the skinny…
