The Boxtrolls

The Boxtrolls is a comedic fable that unfolds in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth, class, and the stinkiest of fine cheeses. Beneath its charming cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls, foul monsters who crawl out of the sewers at night and steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least, that’s the legend residents have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells. The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy, Eggs (voiced by Mr. Hempstead-Wright), since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by villainous pest exterminator Archibald Snatcher (Mr. Kingsley), who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kindhearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and adventurous rich girl Winnie (Ms. Fanning) to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change – and cheese.

The World’s End

The film starts 20 years after five childhood friends attempted an epic pub crawl. The friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

New Images From ‘The World’s End’ Show Simon Pegg Wilding Out

We’ve got a couple of new images from The World’s End, Shaun of the Dead and Hit Fuzz director Edgar Wright’s new movie that stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan.

The images (screen-grabs from a promo clip) sort of reveal Simon Pegg’s character to be the wild ringleader of the group, definitely holding onto “the cigarette end of his teens” as described in the synopsis. I know this is a slight update, but I’m just incredibly excited for this movie. To make it up to you – you can watch about 4 seconds of the movie below (in two small chunks during a minute-long summer presentation reel – your choice).

‘The World’s End’ With A Gang of Drinking Buddies

A new image was released from The World’s End, Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright’s new movie that stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan.

The still depicts the cast strolling around town. I’m expecting this to be a dialogue heavy film (not that I’m complaining).

‘The World’s End’ Will Hit Two Months Sooner! Gather Your Money!

I couldn’t be more excited for The World’s End, Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright’s new movie starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan. From its’ Stephen King-like premise to the cast to the fact that Wright has never let me down. And now, it’s hitting a full two months earlier with a new release date of August 23rd (up from October 25th).

In the film, “20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. Yes, August 23rd is also the same weekend You’re Next comes out. Please save your money and see both films folks, you won’t regret it (at least I doubt you’ll regret it with World’s End – since I haven’t seen it yet).

LAIKA Shifts Focus From ‘ParaNorman’ To ‘The Boxtrolls’

I didn’t love ParaNorman, I found it to be a gorgeous looking film with a cool concept but a snoozer of a script. But I’m very hopeful for The Boxtrolls. As long as the book it’s based on, Alan Snow‘s “Here Be Monsters”, has a reasonably compelling narrative they’re already off to a better start. And if whomever writes the script can translate that well, even better.

The studios behind ParaNorman, LAIKA and Focus, are teaming up on the new 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid animated feature directed by Anthony Stacchi (Open Season) and Graham Annable (story artist on Coraline and ParaNorman). Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Jared Harris, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade and Tracy Morgan will provide their voices to the film.

The film is, “a comedic fable that unfolds in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth, class, and the stinkiest of fine cheeses. Focus will hold worldwide distribution rights to The Boxtrolls while Universal Pictures International will release the movie overseas (with eOne Distribution handling Canada). It is set for release October 17th, 2014. READ MORE

Two new images have surfaced from The World’s End, Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright’s new movie that stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan. Hell Yes!!! Edgar Wright Starts Filming ‘The World’s End’ In September! Simon Pegg And Nick Frost To Star!

Wright Pegg Frost 50912 Hell Yes!!! Edgar Wright Starts Filming The Worlds End In September! Simon Pegg And Nick Frost To Star!

Edgar Wright (Shaun Of The Dead, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World) is one of my favorite directors, so of course I’ve been waiting for The World’s End for quite a while. Co-written by Wright and Simon Pegg (Shaun, Star Trek,) it’s the third installment in their “Blood and Ice-Cream Trilogy” aka “The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy” (the first two installments were Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz – both of which featured a lot of blood and a little cornetto). Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun, Attack The Block) stars as well.

Wright will start shooting the film in September for Working Title / Universal. Per Deadline, “Working Title and Edgar Wright have set a September start date for The World’s End, the last in a trilogy of comedies that started with Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. Wright, who’ll direct, wrote the script with Simon Pegg. Once again, Pegg stars with Nick Frost. Universal Pictures hasn’t yet green lit the film, but is expected to after the modestly budgeted pair of comedies grossed $108 million worldwide between them. The plan is for The World’s End to reach theaters in spring, 2013.

In the film, “20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again.

Sounds kind of like Stephen King’s “IT”, only with beer instead of Pennywise. Stay tuned for more.

Attack the Block

A gang of South London teenagers defending their housing project home against an alien attack.

LONG: Attack The Block is a fast, funny, frightening action adventure movie that pits a teen gang against an invasion of savage alien monsters. It turns a housing estate into a SCI-FI PLAYGROUND. A tower block into a fortress under siege. And weapon wielding teenage thugs into heroes. Think ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 only with monsters and a tower block. Or LA HAINE crossed with ALIENS. It’s inner city versus outer space.

Trainee nurse Sam is walking home to her flat in a scary South London tower block when she’s robbed by a gang of masked, hooded youths. She’s saved when the gang are distracted by a bright meteorite, which falls from the sky and hits a nearby parked car. Sam flees, just before the gang are attacked by a small alien creature that leaps from the wreckage. The gang chase the creature and kill it, dragging its ghoulish carcass to the top of the block, with they treat as their territory.

While Sam and the police hunt for the gang, a second wave of meteors fall. Confident of victory against such feeble invaders, the gang grab weapons, mount bikes and mopeds, and set out to defend their turf. But this time the creatures are bigger. Much bigger. Savage, shadowy and bestial, they are hunting their fallen comrade and nothing will stand in their way. THE ESTATE IS ABOUT TO BECOME A BATTLEGROUND. And the bunch of no-hope kids who just attacked Sam are about to become her, and the block’s, only hope.
