[Boredom Bytes] The Sony, Nintendo And Microsoft Murder Reports!

The Gameological Society’s annual Murder Report is in, and if you think Nintendo won – why would you think that? Of course the real fight is going to be between Sony and Microsoft, who prefer showing as many deaths as possible. Why? Because video games. Find out which of the “Big Three” was the most bloodthirsty after the jump.

[E3 2013] Nintendo Weighs In On Used Games

The used games market has been the center of a heated debate as to whether or not restrictions should be placed on the consoles and video games we spend our money on. We know where Sony and Microsoft stand; how about Nintendo? They’ve been surprisingly quiet on the subject, at least until now.

In an interview with Polygon, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime shed some light on the subject, saying “The replayability of our content is super strong. The consumer wants to keep playing Mario Kart. The consumer want to keep playing New Super Mario Bros. They want to keep playing Pikmin. So we see that the trade-in frequency on Nintendo content is much less than the industry average – much, much less. So for us, we have been able to step back and say that we are not taking any technological means to impact trade-in and we are confident that if we build great content, then the consumer will not want to trade in our games.”

Looks like Nintendo’s plan to combat used games is by making games you won’t want to trade in. I’m okay with that.

[E3 2013] Which Of The “Big Three” Won E3?

Okay, yes, it’s kind of a silly question. Who won E3? That’s a difficult question to question to ask, but now that much of the news is out and the dust has settled, it’s one I feel I’m up to answering.

This is a grading of the “Big Three’s” pre-E3 media briefings — the big three being Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. The stage had been set weeks prior for what would likely become a vicious battle for gamers’ hearts. Microsoft’s recent stumble opened the door for Sony to win a few converts, and Nintendo, being above such bickering, decided to shy away from the pre-E3 madness so they could have a more direct event. Find out who won, after the break.

[E3 2013] The Jungle Freezes Over In New ‘Donkey Kong Country’ Trailer

I feel like I haven’t been giving Nintendo enough coverage this E3, and that’s messed up. To remedy this, here’s a look at an upcoming Wii U horror game set in a jungle, where a military plane has crashed freeing two genetically altered primates to wreak havoc on our unsuspecting world.

See what I just did? I appealed to the average Bloody Disgusting reader, and I did this by lying. Okay, fine, this is just a trailer for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. I’m sure this will bring vats of colorful platforming goodness when it launches on the Wii U this November.

[E3 2013] ‘Mario Kart 8′ Speeds Onto Wii U Early Next Year

The Wii U will be getting another racing game starring Mario and friends when Mario Kart 8 launches early next year. With the high profile racing sims like Forza, Gran Turismo and Need for Speed taking all the headlines recently, seeing this wacky game is a welcome change. I’ve never been a huge fan of the racing games that strive for realism, I’m more fond of games like Blur, Split/Second and Mario Kart, where the goal isn’t just to beat your opponent to the finish line, it’s to pummel them along the way. Read on for the trailer.

[E3 2013] This ‘Bayonetta 2′ Trailer May Cause Seizures

I loved Bayonetta for its stylish visuals and extremely polished combat. The story and characters, not so much. Earlier this morning, Nintendo unveiled a new trailer for Bayonetta 2, which will be coming exclusively to the Wii U (Nintendo is publishing it) for a nebulous 2014 release. In the trailer, witches wearing tight fitted clothes battle demons and giant purple dragons in a dazzling display of aerobatics. It’s flashy, over-the-top, and looks insanely fun. More after the break.

[E3 2013] Your Handy Guide To All The Pre-E3 Events

I hope you’ve adequately prepared yourself for what is destined to become the biggest E3 in nearly a decade. After enduring the longest console generation in the history of this wonderful industry, my body is ready — it aches — for some new consoles. I’m looking forward to seeing what the PlayStation 4 looks like, and I’m especially excited to see what Microsoft does to improve their image. Fifteen exclusives is a damn good start, but it’ll require a lot more than that.

The pre-E3 press conferences, an annual tradition, are set in stone and you can be sure I’ll be here all day on Monday to report on all of the exciting news that will come out of the event. I refuse to sleep until every one of you has had your fill of gaming news. Conference schedule after the break.

Revelations

‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ Is Now Available On The Nintendo eShop

If you’re finding it difficult to wait for Resident Evil: Revelations to make its way to the PS3, PC, Xbox 360 and Wii U in May, now you can grab it digitally through the Nintendo eShop. No longer is Revelations constrained to retail, like a Pikachu given a Thunderstone, it has evolved.

If you’d rather see more from the upcoming HD port, I recommend watching some of the gameplay Capcom’s been drip-feeding us over the last few months. I have a new story trailer, or if you’re feeling frisky you can watch the over-sexualized Rachel do her thing.

The ‘Eternal Darkness’ Trademark Has Been Extended; Could This Mean A Sequel Is In The Works?

It would seem there may be some hope left for an Eternal Darkness sequel to actually happen. Nintendo recently filed a trademark extension, which could mean they’re working with a new developer, since Silicon Knights is busy dealing with some serious financial issues. Unfortunately, it could also mean nothing. Such is the business of game development. I’m really hoping something comes from this, even if it isn’t from Silicon Knights. What studio would you like to see develop an Eternal Darkness sequel?

‘ZombiU’ Releases In The UK Tomorrow, Let’s Celebrate With A Look At Its Multiplayer

ZombiU has been out in the States for close to two weeks now, but for the folks across the pond (specifically Europe and Australia), it won’t release until tomorrow. To celebrate, Ubisoft has released a video showing off the game’s incredibly cool multiplayer mode, which pits two players against each other in what they’re calling asymmetrical multiplayer. Basically, one player takes on the role of the “King of Zombies” where they use their bird’s eye view of the map to spawn zombies to kill the other player. It sounds great. See it in action after the break.

Behold Fair Canadians, The Wii Mini Is Coming And It’s Crazy Cheap

It’s not uncommon for a console manufacturer to release a redesigned version of their console a few years after its launch. Microsoft and Sony have reworked their home consoles with gorgeous results. It took a while for Nintendo to finally get around to redesigning the Wii — though really, the Wii never had any issues with its size — and the result is definitely… cheap. I’m not a big fan of the Wii Mini’s look, it looks too cheap and toy-like to me, nor do I understand Nintendo’s reasoning behind completely removing the console’s online functionality (perhaps they’re looking ahead, when online support for Wii games will eventually be shut down).

If you’re a fan of the Virtual Console or watching Netflix, Hulu, or Youtube on your Wii, this probably isn’t for you. It’s also a Canada exclusive, so there’s that. The console will only run you $99, bringing it pretty damn close to the PS2′s price point and a fantastic (and moderately cheap) Christmas gift. Assuming you live in Canada, of course.

The Wii U Is Out Now, Are You Buying One?

Unless you’ve been living under a particularly large and heavy boulder (we’re talking something on the same scale as a mountain to justify missing this headline), you undoubtedly already know that Nintendo’s follow-up to their crazy successful Wii released today. The Wii U is available right now — assuming you can find one — and for us horror fans, the fact that it comes with ZombiU as a launch title makes it way more intriguing. This basically marks the beginning of the next generation of consoles, as Microsoft and Sony are expected to release theirs late next year. I haven’t gotten my hands on my own yet, but I’m sure some of you have. Did you go out and buy a Wii U, or will you be getting one soon (or at all)? Let us know!

[Random Cool] Castlevania’s “Bloody Tears” Gets A Reggae Ska Treatment: Free Download

A game that I grew up playing nonstop was Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. Regardless of what the AVGN says, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that game. And one of the things that I will always remember from that game is the fantastic music by Kenichi Matsubara. Several of those songs are still stuck in my head, even after more than 20 years.

So the other day, I was screwing around on the Internet and I stumbled across an awesome little gem. A band that goes by International Dub Ambassadors have a 7-track live album entitled
The Return Of The Curse Of The Creature’s Ghost where they take several classic video game themes and give them a ska/reggae treatment. While the audio quality isn’t stellar, it’s still pretty awesome hearing these songs that I grew up get such an interesting twist. You can check them out below as well as download the album fo free!

Award Winning Composer Cris Velasco To Score ZombiU

If you haven’t heard the name Cris Velasco there is still a good chance you’ve played one of the games he’s scored. Such titles as Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Darksiders, Tron: Evolution, Prototype and Clive Barker’s Jericho are just a few in the long list of games he has scored. Well he will be adding one more to his resume by creating the score for the WiiU exclusive ZombiU. Velasco is going to haunt our dreams with such sounds as “detuned toys and instruments, carnival organs, distorted guitars, and haunting ambient textures, contrasted with the intimate emotion of piano and string quintet compositions.” That right there is almost enough reason for me to buy a WiiU. November 13 the game will be released.

Handheld Games Look Out, Here Comes ‘ZombiU’

I don’t really play handheld games. I tried so hard to play handhelds but I just can’t do it. I don’t know what it is but I can’t sit still when I play handhelds. I have a.d.d. or something. But ZombiU, it looks like a game changer. And with the WiiU handheld hybrid, it’s the perfect game for me to disconnect and take into the bathroom. Check out this behind the scenes video below to get an awesome look into the games location. ZombiU will be available on the WiiU’s launch day, November 18th in North America.

Nintendo’s Partnership With Unity Could Bring More Horror Games To The Wii U

Unity Technologies recently announced an exciting partnership with Nintendo that could end up bringing more indie horror games to the Wii U. The partnership will provide a version of the Unity game engine as well as the rights for Nintendo to distribute it to in-house, external, and third-party developers. “Nintendo’s unfettered access to Unity will produce a wealth of insanely good games from knowledgeable Nintendo developers and the Wii U deployment add-on will create an amazing opportunity for our massive community of developers to showcase their incredible creativity on one of the most anticipated and innovative gaming platforms to date.” said Unity CEO David Helgason.

For the unfamiliar, Unity is a multi-platform game engine that’s fairly easy to develop for. It’s also more cost effective than most other development tools, hence why so many indie developers use it for their projects. It’s a popular tool for smaller developers, including Mark Hadley’s Parsec Productions, which brought us the deliciously creepy, and soon to be remade Slender: The Eight Pages. The Wii U releases on November 18th, but the Unity platform won’t be available until next year.

The Wii U Is Coming Nov 18, Here’s Everything You Need To Know To Prepare For Its Arrival

In case you were busy being the awesome human beings I know you all are, you might’ve missed out on some crucial Wii U information that Nintendo unveiled late last week. For starters, the console is coming on November 18th, and you’ll have two sets to choose from: the basic set, which retails for $299.99, and brings with it an 8GB console, GamePad, AC adapter, HDMI cable, and sensor bar. No frills, since it’s more for the casual Nintendo fan. Like, if Nintendo were a band, you wouldn’t be their groopie, but you definitely enjoy their music. That’s who that set is for.

Then there’s the $349.99 deluxe set, which comes with everything the basic one offers as well as extra memory (32GB as opposed to 8GB) a GamePad charging cable, stands for the console and controller, and a copy of Nintendo Land. E3 2012: This ‘ZombiU’ Debut Trailer Asks How Long Will You Survive?

The Wii U is getting an exclusive survival horror game called ZombieU, and it actually looks pretty damn excellent. The game will utilize the screen on the Wii U’s Gamepad controller for various tasks such as sniping, busting down doors, breaking free of zombies, and even as an Aliens style radar that will should almost certainly add to the game’s creep factor. It will also bring with it a competitive two-player multiplayer mode where one player will take on the rols of the “Zombie Master,” spawning and controlling zombies from a top-down view while the other player fights to survive in a first person view. ZombieU has substantially increased my excitement for the Wii U–check out the debut trailer after the jump so it can do the same for you.

A Third Resident Evil Could Be Coming To The 3DS

We’ve had two Resident Evil games come to the 3DS already and if this rumor is true we could soon be getting a third. According to a recent report from Digital Spy, which has since been taken down, Capcom has another project in the works called Resident Evil: Degeneration-Damnation-Downfall. That’s quite a mouthful. The reasoning behind the long-winded and totally not official title is it’s supposedly a bundle that will include the animated film Resident Evil: Degeneration, its upcoming sequel Damnation and a brand new game titled Resident Evil: Downfall. Apparently, Downfall will take place between the events in Resident Evil 5 and 6 and star Claire Redfield as she “witnesses the downfall of humanity.” If this is anything like the fantastic Revelations then Capcom has my full support. Anyone else interested in more 3D Resident Evil?
