The season finale of A&E’s “Bates Motel” airs tonight, so I figured I’d take a look back at the film that spawned it, Psycho, and the modest film franchise that followed.

Most of these movies were holding up fairly well in my memory except for Psycho 2 and Psycho 3, so I re-watched those over the weekend and was actually fairly surprised by how much I enjoyed them. When you think about it, the Psycho universe certainly has more solid installments than something like the Howling franchise, which is kind of neat. It’s just a bummer that the mythology of Norman Bates and the Bates Motel doesn’t really lend itself to much scrutiny (the minimal use of this stuff is part of what makes the original film so brilliant).

“Bates Motel” episode 1.07, “The Man In Number 9″ seems fairly intense if only because that creepy guy from “Justified” is in it. In the episode, “As The Bates Motel welcomes its first guest, Norman learns that popular girls come with many complications.”

A&E’s “Bates Motel” will be sticking around for at least a little bit longer. Maybe a lot longer. The network has renewed the show for 10 additional episodes set to air next year.

The premiere of “Bates Motel” garnered 4.5 million total viewers and 2.5 million adults 25-54 and 18-49, based on Live+7 viewership, making it the most-watched original drama debut in the key demos in the network’s history.

In the five hours since my last “Bates Motel” post I still haven’t watched the new A&E show, but Mr. Disgusting really seemed to like it (the first episode at least) and you guys seem to dig it so I’m gonna share a teaser for next week’s episode 1.04, “Trust Me.”

In episode 1.04, “Trust me,” “Norma begins to wonder about the other town residents while facing many distractions. ”

After finally seeing the trailers for “Bates Motel”, I’m actually pretty excited. Normally I’d pass on posting something like this, especially since the image is so small, but it seems like an important moment in the life of Norman Bates – his introduction to taxidermy,

Whoa! A lot of new footage for “Bates Motel”! And, I have to say, it doesn’t look all that bad. I’m even starting not to mind the contemporary setting. As long as the choice works, who cares? Below we have a new one minute teaser as well as an extended four minute sneak peek. Both are worth taking a gander at.

This is actually kind of a cool feature for the “Bates Motel” website. If you head here you can peep into the rooms! Geographically it doesn’t make much sense (you’ll see) but it’s sort of a fun way to learn about the show.

Is this the first actual footage from “Bates Motel” that we’ve seen? Going through the posts, I think it might be our first look at stuff actually culled from an episode. I actually like the mother/son stuff here. Not so hot on the dayglo rave stuff though. Who knows? Maybe the show makes it work?

[TV] Two Eerie Teaser Promos For “Bates Motel”

Freddie Highmore stars as Norman Bates in “Bates Motel,” the Psycho prequel from “Lost”‘s Carlton Cuse and “Friday Night Lights”‘ Kerry Ehrin. The series will explore Norman’s back story that helped forge the infamous serial killer. After relocating to a new town, Norman will be tasked with navigating the social land mine that comes with being the new kid at a local high school. His mother, Norma Bates, will be played by Vera Farmiga (The Departed, Up In The Air, The Conjuring).

I’m not entirely sold on the idea of this being a modern day show, complete with iPhones and Norman being a fan of Manga (apparently), but I’ll give it a shot! Meanwhile this teaser (via EW) tells us next to nothing – except that Norman (or Norma?) will probably at least handcuff one woman to a sink before disposing of her.

Max Thieriot, Nestor Carbonell, Mike Vogel, Nicola Pletz and Olivia Cooke also star. A&E is currently filming the series in Vancouver, for an early 2013 premiere.

If you wanted to know what Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga) will look like in the upcoming “Bates Motel”, then today’s your lucky day. Here they are, talking about something totally healthy I’m sure with the iconic Psycho house in the background and the titular motel offscreen to their left. EW scored the pic. I actually think this could be pretty good, Farmiga is always interesting so I’m definitely curious about the possibilities.

The series examines the twisted relationship between serial-killer-to-be Norman (Freddie Highmore) and his mother Norma (Vera Varmiga). ““Bates Motel” will give viewers an intimate understanding of how Norman Bates’ psyche developed from his childhood through his teen years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn firsthand how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged Norman, helping forge the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history.”

In a few weeks “Lost” “Heroes” and “House M.D.” director Tucker Gates will be getting behind the camera to start filming the 1-hour pilot presentation of A&E’s upcoming series “Bates Motel,” which serves as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock horror classic Psycho and examines the twisted relationship between serial killer-to-be Norman Bates and his mother Norma. Vera Farmiga was recently locked as Norma Louise Bates who is described as passionate, and compelling, a smart, multidimensional character who is always capable of surprising us.

The Universal TV-produced Bates Motel has a 10-episode straight-to-series order for a 2013 premiere. Former “Lost” co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin (“Parenthood”) serve as writers-executive producers. “Bates Motel” had been developed as a miniseries when A&E bought it in January. When Cuse and Ehrin boarded the project two months later, they reworked it as a series and wrote several scripts. That prompted A&E’s July decision to forgo a pilot and go straight to series.
